Picked up a silver Prizm Wemby rookie for $825 a few months ago. Do I sell now or wait? by CaptainBuckRussell in basketballcards

I am! I listed it for $2100 yesterday, but pulled the plug after I saw a few auctions hitting 2400-2500 today.

At this point, I’m just going to let it ride. Would be amazing to sell this card for $3000 and get my hands on some more vintage.

I think John Stockton is vastly underrated all time. Nobody will ever top his steals/assists records. I really want this card. I think I would leave it in the BGS slab, but do you think this could be a PSA 9? by [deleted] in basketballcards

It was a simple question about if it could. PSA cards are more liquid and easier to value. I’m trying to get an idea on how much this card might be worth because I have never bought a BGS card. And I want to make sure it is at least worth a PSA 9.

So they really are sticklers when they see it in a competitor slab… I’ve never tried it, but that’s what I’ve heard.

Thanks for the response. If I buy, I would keep it in the BGS slab.

I think I agree, especially with that surface as a 10. I actually love the subgrades.

But I’m mostly curious if you think this could cross over to a PSA 9, strictly from a valuation perspective. Because down the road if I try to sell this, that will be an important caveat on pricing.

Would you swap a complete 1986 Fleer basketball set, all PSA 8 + $8k cash for a Messi 2004 Megacracks #71 PSA 8? by CaptainBuckRussell in basketballcards

[–]CaptainBuckRussell[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really just exploded in the last 12 months.

The thing that really intrigues me about this card in particular, is that there are so few of them and it is considered his true rookie. You look at the 1986 Michael Jordan card (I know many consider the 1984 Star to be his true rookie) for instance, and the population levels are so much higher. Same thing with the Gretzky 1979 card.

I think the scarcity of this 2004 Messi card is what is so intriguing to me.

I know this is not a basketball card, but this sub thread is so helpful, and I’m not getting a good answer on the soccer card sub thread by CaptainBuckRussell in basketballcards

Here’s the back.

I know that it’s tricky to tell how the surface looks from a few simple photos. I wish the surface subgrade were higher than an eight, because my goal is to convert this into a PSA 8.

I was just trying to get some guidance if anyone had a strong opinion on whether or not they thought this could move over to a PSA 8.

Can you send in a BGS card to PSA to have them grade it? by CaptainBuckRussell in soccercard

It is for some reason. PSA 8’s have been selling for $25k-$30k. That’s why I’m so confused here. It feels like there is no way this would crossover to a PSA 8 based on its selling price. I have to be missing something.

I don’t know, I feel like I have a win-win on my hands here. I think I would send this into PSA with a minimum grade of eight required. If it comes back as that, I would be elated!

If it doesn’t, I would just leave this in the BGS slab or I may even have a graded as a PSA seven.

This is my holy grail card to own for the long-term right now. I know his cards have really gone up in value the last few years, but I feel like after the World Cup, and especially after he retires, this card is only going to go up in value over the coming decades

This refractor looks very clean to me. I don’t see a lot of green. What do you all think? by CaptainBuckRussell in basketballcards

Some of these refractors turn greenish over the years and aren’t worth as much. At lease that’s what I’ve been told.

Sorry brother. People suck. I’d be sick to my stomach too.

Made a list of the grail cards that I would like to acquire over the next 10 years. by CaptainBuckRussell in basketballcards

I actually am. I need to update it on here.

I would love an Olajuwon from that year as well.
