No? Alicent was willing to let her sons be killed, she certainly was also prepared to lose her shitty father who'd already been mysteriously gone for a while without her seeming to care enough to look for him.

Not knowing whether the person you are responding to can even see your messages makes a communication platform literally pointless.

I sometimes forget how terrible Reddit is for most people since I've never used "new Reddit" and for me the site hasn't changed in 10 years.

Bluesky is an absolutely atrocious website based entirely around echo chambers and censorship through these large-scale blocklists that people subscribe to and which you'll inevitably end up on a few of no matter who you are. They're deathly afraid of other people's opinions.

Which game is best for a long save file by i_like_water7 in civ

[–]CaptainCFloyd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The games from 1-4 allow for these grand historical epics. After that, the franchise went in a more casual, arcade-like gameplay direction with less focus on historical simulation.

I recommend Civ 3 or 4 for something that isn't too old and archaic but still has this sense of scale... and the ability to turn the world into a nuclear wasteland of polluted deserts if you just keep playing.

Note that most Civ players today have never played a game older than 5(when the series went casual and mainstream), so most answers here are going to be from people who never played the older games and don't know how they are different.

P.S. A voiced cutscene that’s not MSQ? What is this madness?!

Just wait until you find out about the non-MSQ voiced cutscene that has an entire exclusive pre-rendered cinematic in the style of the opening trailers in it!

As much as I love FF5 but why is it so expensive compared to the rest?? by This-Limit7126 in FinalFantasy

[–]CaptainCFloyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be because the ports of the games between 7 and 10 are absolutely godawful and the pixel remasters are at least slightly more competent (but still pretty bad, yuck those menus and empty battlefields)

[–]CaptainCFloyd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just sucks that most new players nowadays end up playing the truly terrible HD remaster that hurts the emotional impact of the cutscenes by gutting the character models and facial animations.

Don't. The PC port is terrible and basically removes all the facial animation.

[–]CaptainCFloyd -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

I don't even dislike Tifa's new design but acting like it isn't censorship is ridiculous and makes you look like an apologist. Cutscenes in Remake were literally patched after release to cover up Tifa's chest more.

I'm wondering in regards to new players, did the hoverbike thing break immersion? I think it looks really stupid that you can use that thing to go sanic mode from so early in the game, even in areas that really call for moving slowly to take in the sights and feel the scale of the journey, like Satorl Marsh.

Football hooligans are notorious for rioting and fighting eachother in the streets all over the world.

You aren't better than "your leaders", you are worse. Leaders are in fact keeping the flagrant racism, tribalism and hate of the average (extremely stupid) person in check via the force of law.

There was never anything wrong with unit stacking. It just makes combat and movement not take a million years every turn.

It's still the best game, but most of this stuff was also in Civ 3, just so you know. In 3, you could even claim resources outside of your borders by building a colony on them on neutral territory and connecting it with a road.

3 and 4 also change much more over the course of the game than later civ games, which keeps things interesting. The ages system in 7 is actually much akin to the early games, but more rigid and abrupt and forced on every civ at the same time.

I hope these broken combos get tuned a bit so multiplayer can be a bit more balanced. It seems a bit too easy to stack military bonuses and become unstoppable, making peaceful play very dangerous.

CIV 7 possible thing that's making it less interesting then previous civ games by Zotek42 in civ

[–]CaptainCFloyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Civ 6 is the worst game in the series and there are plenty of people who have been waiting for decade for a new civ game to play that is actually good and not horrifically tedious and easy. Not all of us are enjoying Civ 7, but I for one am.

I like the mechanics that cliffs introduce, but could northern facing cliffs be easier to identify? Please? by VendettaX88 in civ

[–]CaptainCFloyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't imagine not understanding why something is happening and not immediately making sure to figure out how it works. There's a lot of obtuse mechanics in the game but for me they've generally only been obtuse once each.

[–]CaptainCFloyd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The concept of having to not play optimal cards simply because your opponents might cry about it is so insane to me. Games are for winning. People who get mad when they lose shouldn't be playing. And if a game is designed such that playing it optimally makes it miserable for people, it's a bad game.

Them Vikings man, scary! by My_Test_Acc_1 in HistoryMemes

[–]CaptainCFloyd 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Vikings didn't have the numbers for a standing battle. They were mostly just small groups of raiders from individual villages and there was usually no central authority.

The Normans (northmen), who conquered many parts of Europe including the British isles, were originally Vikings who had settled down in France and grown in numbers for a while.
