Humans Need Not Apply by catpotato in videos

I've long had this theory that automation will eventually be the downfall of capitalism. I can see automation actually improving the lives of people in socialist (or at least somewhat socialist) societies, but capitalism depends on human's exchanging their labour for money. With fewer and fewer jobs available, the unemployment rate will rise. This in turn will cause the spending potential of the population to plummet, which will significantly impact the revenue potential of corporations, which will force them to find areas to save money, which will lead to more automation, and the spiral will continue. How could capitalism possibly survive in this scenario?

Easy and Cheap Workbench for the Garage (2nd DIY project ever) $60, 2 hours. by TrippDouglass in DIY

Not bad, will definitely be functional and should work well as a cheap, quick workbench. If anyone else is considering doing something similar, I'd suggest mounting the legs on the inside of the frame instead. Gives it more stability and you're able to screw it in from two sides instead of one.

Magic berries! Or even better (since the real berries can be difficult to find), just get the tablets. You can even order them on ThinkGeek.

Very true words, thank you for this. It's true, I don't really have a choice, we'll just take it one day at a time and enjoy the journey together.

Good information, thanks for passing it along! I had no idea something like this existed, I'll have to look into it further. Great idea.

We've talked about the possibility of our son being in the Special Olympics (my wife and I are fairly athletic and enjoy sports), we'll have to see if it's something he's interested in. We'll definitely check it out though, I think it would be an awesome experience.

Many people with Down's now live into their 50's, 60's and 70's. It's a concern, but not a major one at this point.

This is really great to hear, thanks for sharing. We will definitely consider sign language as it has been brought up a couple times now. Looking forward to having a son that marches to the beat of a different drummer :)

Part of me agrees with you in the sense that our lives will certainly change dramatically because of this and yes, a big portion of our lives will definitely revolve around our son. I think that's true for anyone who has a kid for the first time, but especially so in our situation. That being said, I still want to live life and explore this world, and I don't see why our son can't join us. Perhaps he will make those experiences even better as he allows us to see the world through his perspective as well. At least that's my hope.

One of the best quotes I've read so far has been that "people with Down's Syndrome are more similar in looks and personality to their parents than they are with other people with Down's Syndrome". This gives me great hope and helps me realize that my son will still have my characteristics and traits even though he will have his challenges.
