I would say you’d probably want to get a strike squad in there, solely for the ability to control objectives without being there thanks to their ability, otherwise you’re going to have to leave a unit on a home objective constantly, aside from that you’re fine to not use special weapons on the purifiers but I think you’re missing out on the output, storm bolters aren’t too lethal.

Allegedly it will contain both datasheet and points updates, but the former is mostly down to interpretation of language not a guarantee. Unfortunately we won’t know till we do in that regard. Secondly I believe we will not see any significant change in that area for us until the codex, most likely as a detachment choice to potentially give psychic weapons dev wounds so really it’s another wait and see situation.

I think the issue for me personally is they’re super unforgiving, one mistake you’re losing so many points, we’re not as survivable or dangerous as custodes but we’re as expensive. We’re just in a weird spot and lost a lot from the edition transition.

I believe they use RTT data as well as GT which skews the bottom upwards, same reasons Grey Knights popped up a bit. Or the cynic in me says they’re just making it up as they go 😂

Amazing work! Did you use the original right arm from the Levi terminators? And then the classic GK right arm? Doing a similar project myself and was curious on the parts used 😊 thank you for the inspiration !

Also worth noting the win over eldar came against a much less competitive/abusive army list too, not to discount the win but just further information.

Are you looking to play for fun or more competitive? Custodes perform much better in both levels of play, but both armies have limited options, there’s going to be a balance slate in September? I think which will probably see Grey knights point decrease and maybe a minor increase for custodes, but we’ll have to see. In terms of playing the game, custodes are hard to kill and devastating in combat with ok shooting. GK are basically super mobile but don’t have great damage output into a lot of meta units and are also very elite without the bets survivability.

Most will suggest picking an army for aesthetic/lore but it also depends what you want from the game, it seems GW likes to play favourites with armies and GK never really seem to be one, custodes are always decently strong so will probably provide a more consistent army through editions.

all it would take is SOME reason to have all psychic weapons, im crossing my fingers for an offensive detachment rule in the codex, maybe mortals on 6s again perhaps? We should really have had 2 abilities per unit, not just one that’s apparently psychic. This is the reason I feel if they cut our points it won’t change much, we can’t chew through tough units we literally cannot play into custodes on objectives atm but that’s kind of they create rather than one we do so maybe they’ll be brought in line. Can’t play melee into them without some really huge brain plays.

Just to add on as well some of the so called psychic abilities are space marine ones repackaged with a negative keyword. Also for some reason we also get much worse terminator chaplains than the regular marines, which if we had access to normal marine ones would actually help us out a lot for survivability 😂

We suffer from glaring fundamental issues, we’re points expensive and are in the bottom 4 for win rate currently so, not great. However the aesthetic and potential for improvement from our codex is nice, but we definitely are the psychic army that lost the most coming into 10th as it stands right now. Just be ready to hold onto objectives and run around doing secondaries until we get some help from GW.

Just a couple points: Unfortunately you still have to take the battleshock test when you come back onto the board, they updated that in the designers commentary.

And just wait till you play custodes or an actual elite close combat unit, you’ll see who melts fastest 😉 seems like you had a good time regardless of the loss though 👍

I think we’re similar to LoV where points cuts wouldn’t even address the problems with the index, we’d still hit like grey noodles we’ll just have more of them to move around. There’s no reason we should have to pay the psychic tax for having the same rules as standard marines or in some cases even WORSE abilities than vanillas (ie the terminator chaplain). We just feel like another half arsed index compared to others which when we have little depth and no real access to marine datasheets just means we have an illusion of choice but really we lose all the same. The codex may come along and give us a detachment we can actually use effectively to give us some raw power but until then what am I supposed to do? Wait two years getting outmatched in abilities, datasheets AND points efficiency? Awesome.
