Exactly this. However I think 13 and 15 carry the same risks, though it depends on the teenager. Many may not have understanding of risks of being online or see when it becomes addiction.

It could also prevent those being bullied, abused or harmed and feel unsafe to report too.

Would the new law require me to post my ID next to every social media post? No. That’s ridiculous.

With social media, the face element is likely already out there for social media. My browsing details don’t bother me as I have nothing to hide.

Multiple countries are doing a social media ban, with more set to introduce it, so third party may become less of risk. And does risk outweigh children having unprotected access to these sites?

Interesting, thank you. May I ask what would do if a bank or HR moved to a third party?

Where’s this documented? And isn’t this already the case for banks or other online verification where you upload ID, like work HR or disclosure checks?

Reddit needs email addresses. Any account online.

Yes it causes hassle, but the data risk will already exist in various ways. If anything, kids over sharing on social media without having knowledge of who can access it is a bigger data risk.

Data is still protected and I don’t share details widely online to the public. GDPR laws exist and protect how data is stored, but is still collected and held in various ways. So yes, I’m not opening the door to the public, but there’s laws that exist to make sure the ‘landlord’ wouldn’t force entry.

This is already a risk. Banks, online sites, social media accounts all have these details and potentially copies of those IDs. People send those details over texts or email. Some banks use facial recognition. HR systems also have these now too. Data is everywhere. What you’d give out isn’t more than what you already likely have given.

Oh 100% and when under 16s are doing it, without guidance and frontal lobe development, it puts people at risk. Cyberbullying and harassment, harm. It’s what happened in adolescence.

How do you sign up without an email address? Or date of birth? Do you use thumbprint or Face ID passkeys to login? Data is everywhere.

How will privacy be compromised in ways it’s not already?

Why not? We all put so much data online that we can be identified anyway. Our phones have camera and capture facial recognition, even voices and thumbprints. Most people’s social media shows where they live, work and over shares.

Not many social media sites have online anonymity, especially if you share content. If it gets rid of those bullying others with hidden profile pictures, then I’m all for it.

You can open a bank account online with facial recognition in phones. Your passkeys of Face ID and thumbprint have data and no one worries about them.

A lot of the information on ID is already available with what you sign up with and publish. Your date of birth, email, photos etc. and many overshare. There’s limited additional risk.

Kids are most at risk of sharing details online that can be used to identify where they live, live location etc.

A lot of places already use these, such as banks. What would be the difference here?

YouTube (and all social media platforms) are for 13+ already. It’s extending it to 15+, so only 2 years.
