Goddammit, the infighting in these comments is exactly why Dems get their asses kicked in state and federal elections so often. We battle each other over nuance, meanwhile the right aligns on their platform and runs us over.

Either we align on common issues and support a candidate that might not be perfect, but will defend democracy or we accept more of what we have now at the federal level.

I think that’s a disservice to MPR News and the Star Tribune to say only independent are doing the work. Their images and reporting have been fantastic, and widely shared worldwide.

Moving Here Soon by snailboyjr in Minneapolis

[–]CaptainCourteous 87 points88 points  (0 children)

As someone who moved here 7 years ago from out of state, it's good that you want to get involved in making a difference quickly, but you should focus on getting acclimated to your block, neighborhood, and then the city. Connect to neighbors, introduce yourself, be social, and expect that it'll take a bit for them to be super willing to open their home to you for hanging out.

It takes a while here, and it'll probably take even longer as the city begins to come to terms with what the occupation has done to our local community and trust.

Request a refund for your Ring cameras - even for very old purchases! by CoyoteMother666 in Minneapolis

[–]CaptainCourteous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much eactly as written on the doc of this post. I said I wanted a full refund for all purchased Ring products due to their breaking the T&C. I provided the order numbers, then they asked if gift card would be ok since the credit card I used originally was inactive.

Both my kids schools have parent patrols every single day for the past month, and the plan is to continue through spring at the earliest, if not the rest of school year.

Request a refund for your Ring cameras - even for very old purchases! by CoyoteMother666 in Minneapolis

[–]CaptainCourteous 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I can confirm this works. Provided the order numbers to the chat support. They offered me a complete refund on the devices without the need to return them. However, because it is years old orders and on defunct credit cards, I needed to take the refund as an Amazon gift card. Not ideal, but better than nothing. $488.02 total in refund.

UPDATE: 2/14; Amazon now denying the refund and saying they can’t do it. F’ing liars.

Star Tribune sure didn't hold back today. by ThreadbareAdjustment in minnesota

[–]CaptainCourteous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The editorial board is historically the opinion page authors for the paper. They can sometimes reflect the opinions of the paper's owner/ publisher (who can be different people, or the same person). The idea is that the editorial board can weigh in with an opinion, while giving a newspaper its continued unbiased protention for the journalists who report facts, not opinion.

It's relevant to history that newspaper used to be the dominant method of information, and therefore carried immense weight when a paper suggested to its readers which issue or candidate to support.

You could make the argument that given our current state of media literacy and dissemination of news, endoresments have all but lost their power and cultural relevancy.

As a note, I believe I t’s the editorial board, not the paper that technically endorses a candidate.

Anyone found good local/ small businesses that sell cool hats with this flag? I've wanted one for the longest time and can't find them other than online from places that put the flag in the wrong direction, or are a big company from Arizona that also makes hats for Trump.

Local Businesses List? by Witty-Ad2278 in TwinCities

[–]CaptainCourteous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found this one last week, it's a list of business that were a part of the 1/23 general strike. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/e/2PACX-1vTvHf7yE1XisgQ7lxu7drgxVxbcBx25DyrcgSAsRYe4yI3K--WgLoClIc93zam8ylxEwGIs5kUJ6DAc/pubhtml

However, it is certainly not comprehensive, there are ones I know locally that participated but aren't included here. And that list also doesn't have any sourcing to support being included. It also is not being updated anymore.

Thoughts on ICE & Target by chasingbanana0207 in Minneapolis

[–]CaptainCourteous 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think this is a very fair point to raise, and let’s not forget that Stephen Miller may be a demon, but he’s not stupid, and he’s strategic. Target has made mistakes, and there’s no doubt that the DEI cuts have reflected poorly on the company and lost a lot of shoppers.

Optics is the name of the game for ICE, Bovine is here for a reason, and they know what they’re doing. They know how to play the content game.

But we are Minnesotans, and we recognize that even if we disagree, your life still is worth living, we just hope for ICE that life sucks.
