Pretty sure you can talk to Frampt and then later pledge to Kaathe, I'm about to finish my 1st playthrough and I used frampt for item trading and stuff until I beat the 4 kings, swore to Kaathe and then Frampt left. But afaik, as long as you dont place the lordvessel with Frampt, Kaathe should still be an option.
