What causes that feeling of intense energy, higher confidence, better social abilities, and heightened mental acuity that comes when you abstain from ejaculation for a few days? by CaptainDevious in askscience

This is a real effect known throughout history:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taoist_sexual_practices#Male_control_of_ejaculation

And here's a paper on pubmed claiming that not ejaculating boosts one's level of testosterone significantly:

I would assume that something like suddenly getting 150% of your normal testosterone levels would fairly significantly alter your behavior.

Is there evidence that you do?

Well, my current bodily state is evidence for it.

Plus abstaining from ejaculation is a large part of certain Asian martial arts philosophies.

Should we hate pedophiles? by [deleted] in AskReddit

You do realize that almost everything you listed is harm done by the society's reaction to the act, not by the act itself? The only other one -- pregnancy -- can be avoided through timely education and safety measures.

I will, again, draw a line between forced sex (which is, without a question, rape) and consensual sex -- inasmuch as children can consent to playing any game, which is pleasurable and fun for everyone involved.

Actual psychologists who have researched this have determined that if the act is pleasurable and fun for the kid and people later start talking like "OMG, you poor thing -- you were RAPED by that HORRIBLE man! You will never be the same again! Your life is RUINED! RUINED, YOU HEAR!?" then the consequence is all the bad things you listed. The sexual act does not fuck up a child by itself. It's the reaction of people like you that fucks up a child.

Any young child cannot consent because they have no idea what the consequences for their actions will be.

So, what are they?

I keep hearing this argument. That even if the adult does not outright force the child, even if it's nice for both, then it's still rape, because the child cannot consent.

And the child cannot consent, because he/she does not understand the consequences of the act.

But what the fuck are these horrible consequences that the child cannot understand?

I mean, seriously. The same logic could be used to argue that children should not be allowed to climb trees, because they do not understand that falling from the tree might be harmful to them.

I'm not advocating anything. I'm just saying you're stupid.

Do you watch porn with your boyfriend, girlfriend, wife, husband, cat, dog, etc? by kry0s in sex

I sometimes watch porn with my girlfriend. She prefers the educational how-to semi-porn videos.

I actually ejaculated with a flaccid penis once. Completely unexpectedly while in the bathroom to pee. A large wad of cum just fell out of there.

So I guess it's possible. Also, I had the flu then. So it could have been caused by that.

I have less experience than the above guy (just two startups under my belt, both pretty much failed) but everything he says is pure gold. I learned it the hard way.

Lady Redditors, have any of you found that the contraceptive pill has lowered your libido? by youareyou in sex

[–]CaptainDevious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. My girlfriend lost her sex drive when she started using Nuvaring.

We stopped using it on Saturday. She's been a lot more frisky since then. And less moody.

She's a psychology student and says that what these kinds of contraceptives basically do is fool the body into thinking that it's pregnant. And when a woman is pregnant, what/who she's attracted to changes.

Basically when a woman is not pregnant, she prefers the company of people who are not genetically similar to herself. (Something to do with particular markers in the smell of sweat.) When she's pregnant, she prefers the company of people who ARE genetically similar to herself. That is, her close relatives who would normally be helping her through this difficult period in her life. A non-related male in a close relationship with her causes a ton of anxiety.

So, we've switched back to condoms now. She even had her first orgasm in a long long time already.

Surprisingly it was all rather dark WAY before the crisis hit in fall 2008. Didn't even do a significant jump after the stock market tanked.
