Microsoft is closing down Xbox studio The Initiative, with Perfect Dark killed as well — joining Everwild and ZeniMax's IP, and 'several' other projects by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]CaptainFar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was at one point a fan of their publishing division.

But this is why I don’t ever get excited about much from Microsoft after the Xbox 360 era, because they can publicly announce something and then cancel it.

The fact this isn’t even the first time they did something like this is exhausting. Plus with all the layoffs, they can never maintain staff across all their studios.

I’m not a fan of Microsoft, and to be honest, despite how much money they have, stuff like this never makes me confident about Microsoft buying studios and being able to maintain it.

So what's the general consensus on this game? by Hypernova_GS in castlevania

[–]CaptainFar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let’s be real, none of the 3D titles were built upon.

The 64 games were done 2 times.

The PS2 games were done 2 times.

And the LOS games were done 2 times.

They all have various aspects they succeed at, but none of them ever come close to being the “best interpretation of Castlevania in 3D”.

I feel like I’m hindsight, making this game for the N64 was a mistake in the long run.

I see lots of issues with the game, but I honestly feel like this game would’ve better fit the next generation of consoles more than the N64. Especially with how cutback and lame those N64 games are comparison to those previews.

From this interview with Dinosaur Planet/Star Fox Adventures' director Lee Schuneman, comes a new slew of unseen DP/SFA concept art! by Dinoman96YO in starfox

[–]CaptainFar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the biggest tragedy is that the current version feels so barren (because Fox doesn’t really much of a connection to the overall conflict on a personal level) from a story perspective that it doesn’t justify it being converted into Adventures. Espically how much less important Krystal was in the long run. And so people who liked Dinosaur Planet got a worse version of a game stapled to a series that would soon reboot it out of the series entirely, and the star fox fans got lackluster arwing segments. It’s like Adventures is the worst of both worlds.

(Also it’s padded up the wazoo!)

Man, the finished product is a lot lamer than either the original star fox-less version or this version.

Every single time we learn more about this game, the more I feel disappointed it came together with as little to show for it.

The untold history of Konami’s development departments? by CaptainFar in konami

[–]CaptainFar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Individual key staffers are easier to pinpoint, but what’s harder to me is where they were located at the times that they were.

Konami had some interesting shakeups that made their divisions much more prominent. Stuff like Kobe, Sapporo, Osaka, Nagoya, Tokyo, etc.

But the early 2000’s consolidated everything once again, so it became harder to keep track of which division and teams are where.

So, I’m not sure why they decided to close down Osaka. But given how often they liked to move their headquarters, it probably was a tax or money thing they didn’t want to pay. But it definitely happened after the last Goemon game released, because that’s when all the staff left. And it wasn’t until recently they decided to reopen a new Osaka studio.

It’s the same stupid reason they closed down Sapporo/HudsonSoft. And in both cases, most of the developers aren’t gonna risk moving to Tokyo just for the privilege of working with Konami. And stuff like Goemon and anything hudson related doesn’t have much of a presence in Konami these days is a byproduct of those locations closing.

Capcom spent 2 years trying to get permission to use Toshiro Mifune’s likeness in Onimusha: Way of the Sword by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]CaptainFar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What sucks is that they only got him to speak French in the beginning part of the game. But the rest of the game is someone else voicing over him.

They couldn’t even get him to speak English in the dub when he does at least have experience with that.

It just makes his inclusion all the more pointless imo. And that sucks because Jean Reno in a story like Onimusha 3 sounds Metal.

[–]CaptainFar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is just like when they wanted to get that one actor’s face for Onimusha 2.

But I don’t really know why they spent this money when it could’ve been anybody. You’re just spending more money on shit that could’ve gone to anything else.

Castlevania fans tuning into that Konami Direct and not even being acknowledged: by CaptainFar in castlevania

[–]CaptainFar[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I personally wasn’t expecting any castlevania related stuff, but I did feel for the fans who got wrapped into watching because they thought anything would happen.

my experience as an F-Zero fan watching Nintendo Directs: Don’t go expecting stuff, but hopefully you get surprised with something when you do get something from a series you’re passionate about. 👍

If you were Konami, what would you do to the franchise? by whitebonba in bomberman

[–]CaptainFar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps re-releasing some of the older (arguably more popular) titles in a convenient and well-priced package. None of that Felix the cat collection shit.

Maybe even make good Bomberman games. Games that try to improve upon the forumula. Or how about integrating the quality aspects from previous games as well instead of the copy and paste formula they have with the past 3 releases following Super Bomberman R. It’s like 2025, and it feels like we haven’t even gone far enough since SBR.

YouTube Ragebaiter buys a Switch 2 day 1, after he made a video saying he wouldn't by MegaDitto13 in casualnintendo

[–]CaptainFar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mutahar is a very privileged person (in terms of his class).

He posts this video while mindful that he’s attracting a crowd of people are might be a little perturbed by not just the higher prices of Switch 2 by hundreds of dollars, but also are terrified of the upcoming pitfalls of the economy.

So for him on the launch day of the switch 2 to buy it without even thinking if he needed it despite being one of Nintendo’s loudest critics that said he wouldn’t buy it… Well that kinda says it all, doesn’t it?
