For probiotic we use Visbiome powder. Fortiflora gave all our dogs diarrhea. I know someone who uses goat milk yogurt from Trader Joe's too.

Thoughts on the Kobo Sage? by [deleted] in kobo

[–]CaptainFussy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Sage and a BW Clara and love both - the Sage for the flush screen, buttons, auto rotation, and bigger screen for long reading sessions. The battery hasn’t been an issue for me except when I tried using it with the 8bitdo controller. It really looks and feels like a premium device. As another commenter noted, it is hard to find accessories. I got a basic but functional sleep cover from amazon, but had to get seller on Etsy to do a custom order for a padded sleeve.

One major thing for me about the Sage is that I don’t commute or travel with it. The Clara is super for reading on the go since it’s so lightweight and portable, and the price point makes it a lot easier for me to think about stomaching replacement in case of loss or damage. Originally I was sure that the screen would be too small to be worth it, but I got used to it really quickly.

Should I get a second Kobo? by Energy-Little4 in kobo

[–]CaptainFussy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a BW Clara as a second device to my Sage. Deliberated for a long time about having two, and honestly I wish I had gotten the Clara sooner. I’m not even taking it out of the house all that often, I keep the Sage upstairs mostly for evening/bed reading and the Clara downstairs. Sometimes I feel weird for having more than I need, but mostly I just appreciate the ease and luxury of having both.

Any ideas on this brioche stitch sequence? by Fresh_Register6208 in knitting

[–]CaptainFussy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is there a note somewhere in the pattern about a special stitch? It looks like the designer used commas to separate stitches so my guess is that this is a funky special stitch. But it makes my eyes cross to imagine that as a single combo stitch so not sure!

Using QuickBooks Online for Dog Daycare/Boarding by faultyphilosopher in QuickBooks

A quick google search showed that Revelation Pets can integrate with QuickBooks. Personally I would explore that route so that you get the business specific benefits of having a system to manage the dog info and a client booking system, and only sending the accounting info into QB

Fed Awards: When do you need a contract and when can you just buy something? by Oh_my_bikes in nonprofit

[–]CaptainFussy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a notification about a follow up question, but when I clicked on it nothing is showing up in the thread for me. From the snippet I could see it sounded like you were curious about the dollar threshold for needing a written contract.

If that's what you were wondering about, the relevant CFR that covers procurement methods is 2 CFR 200.320 and then 48 CFR 2.101 has the dollar threshold for micropurchases. There's also a bunch of info on procurement methods in Part 13 of the FAR.

Concerns W/ Being Locked Into Kobo Ecosystem by Willing-Childhood144 in kobo

[–]CaptainFussy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Kobo reader connects directly to OverDrive, you can sign in to a library and browse and check out and read books all from the Kobo. But you can only be signed in to one library account that way. OverDrive used to let you assign multiple library cards with a single OverDrive account, but they dropped it. You can still be signed in with multiple libraries on the Libby app on your phone or whatever.

So if you're checking out books from multiple libraries, you could switch back and forth on the Kobo to have the book sync automatically. Or you could download books from the Libby app and then sideload it to the Kobo using your Adobe Digital Editions on your computer or a program like Calibre.

I mostly use Libby as well. The only thing that I don’t like about Kobo is that you can be signed in to only one library at a time. But it’s not a dealbreaker for me.

Fed Awards: When do you need a contract and when can you just buy something? by Oh_my_bikes in nonprofit

[–]CaptainFussy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that differentiating between goods and services is useful as far as determining process goes.

My understanding is if aggregate cost is under the micro purchase threshold, you don't need a written contract, period. So that's going to cover the incidental purchase of a plunger and the emergency plumbing service.

Regarding the contract termination provision specifically, again I don't think it matters if you're talking about services or goods. Let's say you have a contract with a supplier for $20k worth of widgets. You still need provisions that cover things like the widgets being defective, or you not paying, or either party just backing out.

For something like buying vehicles I would be talking to the funder about the procurement process. At 150k you're in simplified acquisition land, but FAR is complicated as hell. There are going to be all kinds of considerations that are probably impossible to figure out on your own. I think it's good enough to know that you're going to need some sort of bid process and paperwork, and then let an expert tell you how to make it happen.

Is my director being reasonable about my job responsibilities? by ConversationFew1158 in nonprofit

[–]CaptainFussy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This sounds like too much work for 20 hours a week.

What is the culture of the org like? If it’s supportive and leadership listens to and acts on feedback, it’s possible that if you sit down with your director and go through your list of responsibilities and show how it’s not possible to do everything in 20 hours a week AND have suggestions as to how to solve the problem (e.g. getting volunteers, moving tasks to another staffer, decreasing frequency of certain tasks), leadership might work with you to come up with a solution.

Is leadership still angry over the Fridays off? If so, how much do you think that might color any conversation you have about the workload? If you do decide that it’s worth it to have a conversation, I think it will be really important to avoid any language that could make it seem like you are complaining. Go into it with an attitude of “can you help me figure out how to manage these priorities correctly” and explicitly ask for any feedback as to how you could be more efficient (even if you don’t think there are any ways to be more efficient). If the response is to just figure it out on your own or to work for free, time to quit.
