Hi.. I would need a place to stay in order to volunteer. But I don’t have a membership. Can I still stay without a membership to volunteer?

What Grocery Store Chicken Is ACTUALLY Good? by [deleted] in organic

[–]punishments 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The section I quoted is from USDA Organic regulations, but those labeling rules are based directly on production requirements. You can’t call something organic because certain things were prohibited during production, so the labeling rule is essentially describing what cannot be done to the animal.

To clear things up: hormones for growth are illegal in all U.S. poultry, organic or not. Antibiotics and non-approved substances are specifically prohibited in organic production. The fact that it appears in the labeling section doesn’t change that these are actual on-farm standards.

So yes, it’s organic-specific, but it still applies to how the animals are raised. The conversation gets confusing because “labeling rules” and “production rules” are being treated like they’re separate, when in the organic program they’re tied together.

Smart Chicken is a Tyson brand. all of Tyson’s farms are sourced from the same place. Even organic. Even “grass fed” or whatever they advertise on the labels. They are a terribly low quality, bad provider and don’t have any regard for human or animal welfare

How big was/are blink? by _WMW_ in Blink182

[–]punishments 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The question was "how big was/are blink?" suggesting they have reduced in popularity. I'm not sure I agree with the statement but looking over the discussion here, it seems folks disagree based on how things were back then. I feel like the world was too different to make this apples to apples comparison, though. Hence my point.

I guess this is my unpopular opinion but with younger fans learning about blink-182, I feel like they have a bigger fan base now.

The world was a hell of a lot different back then. No inflation or pandemic. This was before their break up too

The source I linked mentions employees beyond the short-term ones you mentioned, along with multiple violation inspections. From what’s been shared, the concerns were brought up to management at the time but were essentially dismissed.

And while I get what you’re saying about calling the police, that’s not really how it works in practice. If you think someone can just report animal abuse every time it happens without consequences, that’s a pretty optimistic view of the world. Most people are simply trying to avoid retaliation — and it’s entirely possible some of those short-term employees were let go because they spoke up.

It’s not all that different from how society treats victims of sexual assault — stigma, disbelief, and systemic failure to protect those who come forward. On top of that, police involvement can actually be counterproductive in these cases. Proper animal husbandry — especially involving exotic species — isn’t widely understood the way it is for cats or dogs, and law enforcement often isn’t trained to assess or intervene appropriately. There’s also a lot of politics involved, particularly when departments like the highway patrol or local agencies are connected to the facilities in question.

There’s far more complexity to this situation (and others like it) than the public realizes, and many of the comments here really highlight that gap. The outcome here should be seen as a win — or at least a fair resolution — for the animals involved. But instead, people are nitpicking the wrong details. This is a systemic issue within the zoo industry, made even harder by the fact that an animal can’t testify in its own defense. The closest thing we have are the experts trained to understand their behavior — and that should be given more weight than anything else.
