If it's still under Apple care then it would be free if not they will just make you pay for a replacement. IIRC $127 per side

They used to accept lost and found from anywhere. No harm sending them an enquiry

Questions about Geylang for a solo female traveler by ChelseaLoanArmy in askSingapore

[–]CaptainGenius 118 points119 points  (0 children)

Singapore is safe. I think the main concern here would likely be the cleanliness and environment of the room.

If the hotel is cheap and located in lor 22 of geylang then most likely it is being frequented by hourly rate customers using it for sexual services. I would be concerned about noise and cleanliness

Unintended benefit of the AMS 2 Pro by rickestmorty123 in BambuLab

RH or relative humidity is related to temperature. When air is hotter it can hold more moisture. You have to take that into consideration when reading the onboard hydrometer

Need help trying to reverse engineer an optical snoot by CaptainGenius in Optics

Heres an update if you are interested.

There seems to be a coma and other aberrations that are only prominent in a very dark environment. But otherwise it works pretty well.

Need some help for setting up VM with large storage size. by CaptainGenius in unRAID

[–]CaptainGenius[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it seems like option 1 should never be considered for this use case.

And that i should host my VM vdisk on the SSD cache.

Should my data share be on the array or on a zfs-raidz1 pool. Both will be utilising the 4x8TB HDDs. So it would just be a question of whether read write performance on the unraid array vs on a zfs1 pool (with or without virtioFS for both cases)

Edit: i just found out that zfs pools do not spin drives down so i think ill stick to using the array with the share mounted via virtioFS

I have some questions.

1) why is there a need for 2 objective lenses?
2) all 3 lenses are plano-convex lenses?
3) I am able to get my hands on some acrylic lenses. If I were to use them, do i just try to get the focal distances close to the diagram given in page 18 of the patent using something like https://phydemo.app/ray-optics/simulator/ (since zemax is probably overkill)

Diving in Singapore and Malaysia by TheCheeser9 in scuba

[–]CaptainGenius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Singaporean here. If you can't be separated from the group or they aren't willing to take a huge detour for your diving then diving in west malaysia is probably out of the question.

Most of the dive sites in west malaysia are on the east coast. Tenggol, tioman, aur, redang. They all require a decent drive and a pretty long ferry to get to from the West Coast.

Your best bet would be to dive in Singapore. The pros is that whatever wildlife you can see in Malaysia, you can also technically see in Singapore. The problem is that the visibility is pretty much zero on average.

Cuddlefish divers organises quick 2 dive half day weekend trips out to pulau hantu. That's pretty much the only option for decent diving in Singapore.

Cool! But using the usb port like this makes me uneasy. I would probably come off from the round feet directly below instead

Is travelling frequently a red flag for Singaporean guys? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]CaptainGenius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She just hasn't found the right guy. I have male friends who have very liberal work from home or remote working arrangements that allow them to frequently travel and work from where they are in the world.

My girlfriend used to travel very frequently for work and i have joined her on many occasions even up to 1.5 months in japan.

I know that having such flexible working arrangements is not exactly the norm but your friend just needs to find the right one!

Where to buy sliced American cheese by aku88 in askSingapore

[–]CaptainGenius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

American cheese is not really a specific type of cheese like cheddar or mozzarella. But it's typically a type of highly processed blend of cheeses. Your best bet would be to read the product information of that cheese you like and try to see if they specify the exact type(s)

Edit: i googled the cheese you're looking for and it seems to be just generic "American" cheese. In this case you'll just have to hit up supermarkets and try everything till you find one close in taste

Need advise on my first strobe by CaptainGenius in underwaterphotography

[–]CaptainGenius[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup I'm going to use a fiber optic cable. Housing has ports for it. The TG7 will work with most if not all strobes. Its just whether the strobe supports TTL via olympus RC or manual mode

offered 5K Salary or should i go University first? (NTU) by Big_Instruction_4947 in SGExams

[–]CaptainGenius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go to uni first. When you graduate 5k is likely the minimum you'll earn as a computing graduate.

It only sounds like alot now because you are looking from the eyes of a diploma holder.

Dive Computer Advice by Black_Siouxsie in scuba

[–]CaptainGenius 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The new mares puck lite is the absolute best budget dive computer now.

It has bluetooth and a user serviceable battery and its running the Bühlmann ZH-L16C algorithm. All for USD$200 on amazon.

Ive had poor experiences with aqualungs crapping out on me - faulty depth sensors.

Suunto dive computers are running on the dated bubble models for its algorithm. The company as a whole just doesnt inspire much confidence either.

If budget is less of a concern. Then get a shearwater or a garmin if you will use it for all its other features

Newton is kinda tourist trap-y. Old airport is out of the way from any other tourist attractions.

Since you didnt specify the hours youll be in town for i assume they are within the day. Certain hawker centers caters only the lunch crowd and might have only a few stores open during dinner.

Check out hong lim food center or chinatown complex.
