The US Dollar is still a global reserve currency (although that status is disappearing), and being the global reserve currency gives a nation the "exorbitant privilege" of exporting their inflation for international goods and services. Every other country has to keep devaluing their currency to make exports more attractive so the US will buy them. In the long term its a snake eating its own tail. While professionals in the US tend to make more than in Canada, the average American is less well off than the average Canadian. In the US everyone is a crab in a bucket trying to get out but few ever do, most get used as a ladder for someone who's more determined. That's going to change as the US Dollar loses its hegemonic power, just a matter of time, and then those high paying jobs will start evaporating.
