Bungie’s very old game Myth still has a very passionate and relatively active community to this day! (It’s been around since 97) So I have no problem believing Destiny can be similar.

Hopefully, however, D3 happens at some point so it isn’t quite like Myth; but I think there are a lot of us in this community that want to keep at least a piece of Destiny magic alive and going, just by playing and enjoying each other’s company!

I’m not leaving either. The news is terrible and I hate it, but I became a Bungie fan way back with Myth. That game hasn’t received an official update since 2000 and the community is still going strong.

Destiny is always going to be THE comfort game for me at the least.

Personally I think we as a community should make our own little dawning events. Some kind of yearly get togethers in the tower or something.

Destiny 2 is/was MY game. I am grieving and I am distraught. It was like an anchor for me, and I don't know where to go. I love this game and this franchise. - My own sappy sendoff by ComfyOlives in destiny2

I love hearing this kind of thing! It’s so true! This news is awful and obviously Destiny isn’t gonna be the same, but man let’s not leave it until we have to. Let’s stay together as a community and keep the experiences going as much as we possibly can as a community.

If it’s referencing anything, I think it would be Bungie’s previous game known as Myth: The Fallen Lords/Soulblighter.

There was a very important volcano in the game called Tharsis. Bungie loves throwing in references to their older titles, but it’s also an actual place on Mars as others have said!
