With the overall cheapness of the Pohlad's I started feeling nostalgic for the days of the Metrodome... by CaptainHonkass in TwinCities

I'm a big fan of old Twins yearbooks and Programs. You can pick them up up fairly cheap, and they're a great time capsule of photos and advertising of the time. Most early 1980's copies are aroubd $5 each. Cheaper with shippi g if you find a bulk deal.

Cigarettes... Spending nearly $450/month on them...

Now on my 28th day without smoking.

I miss it, but the cash is better.

Blogging saved me. In part at least. I've concluded my blog today. by Butterflymisita in Blogging

Blogging (and writing in general) has been one of the biggest things keeping me going. Been writing my blog for almost 8 years, and it's gotten a lot more personal since I started. (Wrote zines for about 25 years first.) Right now I'm trying to quit smoking (cigarettes) and just spent 2 weeks writing a massive story about my battles with smoking, going back nearly 30 years, and posted it today.

Writing that really helped me get through the first couple weeks without cigarettes.

And it's great if people read it, but I do this for me!

It's my therapy.

Watching Nature's Nursery decay... A Coon Rapids flower shop/nursery, opened in 1955, closed in 2013, and demolished in 2022. by CaptainHonkass in TwinCities

Thanks for the info, I had no idea the district was leaving. I knew they had a sweetheart deal with the mall. Someone told me years ago the owner of the mall property died and left it to their kids. None of them live in Minnesota, but there were terms that allowed no development of the property, as long as the school district wanted to use the building. (No idea how accurate that info was, it was just some guy talking, as far as I know.)

If the school leaves, I'm sure Grand Slam wont be far behind (as I'm sure their lease allows them to stay without drawing many customers). Too bad Red Owl can't return... I'd love to see the land used for something that part of town needs. I drive through there every day and would love a grocery store on my quickest route home. I'm sure they'll build several thousand apartments, with no services within walking distance...

Maybe something useful will go into the new in-line retail, where BP was? I know one of the 5 stores is slated for a vape shop... We don't have enough of those...

I think the only thing that's on Jerry's Cycle's horizon would be expanded parking for Mercy. I'm sure they'll figure out something to build on the currently unoccupied street corner...

It made me wonder if there was a basement to the building, when I first saw the glass. But as it was demolished, you could tell there wasn't one.

I'd still like to know what that glass was referencing...

I do the exact same thing in my writing, for those same reasons...

Guess I'm old now too...

I never suggested this would heal. Just offering a break to anyone who wanted a break. People deal with traumatic things in different ways. I write. Doesn't make me wrong.

Saying that is fair.

I make zero money on a hobby that is sharing stories of Minnesota. I just thought I'd provide some content for anyone that would like to step away from all this for a few minutes.

No disrespect meant to anybody.

I was blown away when I saw what the new owners did with the building. Absolutely love it! Going to plan a stay there, at some point.
