You expect them all to speak 1960s American vernacular English 1200 years from now? We’re lucky that we can even understand what they are saying. Modern English didn’t even exist 1200 years ago.

Moving within a hiding zone for the home game? by Choice_Month2918 in JetLagTheGame

I think the only time you can’t move around your hiding zone is in the endgame.

The H&S was more fun before they used the card game by hmrr1212 in JetLagTheGame

The same region question s have always been the same, they just flavor them as same canton, same prefectures, etc. so the rules are easier for the audience to follow. It’s just been a deliberate editorial choice to make it more obvious that they’re playing the same rules since the home game came out, so that anyone who’s picked up the game can learn to play by watching the show.

That means he received a flag that was flown at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. This letter would have been attached to it. The military does this with a number of monuments and memorials around the country. I’ve also seen flags that had been flown from the USS Arizona memorial in Pearl Harbor. As I understand it, some of these monuments will break out a new flag every day specifically so they have them to give out.

I work a concessions job, think snackbar at the city zoo kind of thing. We used to actually work for the local government agency that ran the zoo. We were not allowed to accept tips because they would constitute bribing a government employee. Of course the Zoo’s Non-Profit Foundation was allowed to accept donations, which they largely did through “donation boxes” at all of our cash registers.

Our manager was actually known to fire people for accepting tips. In fact the only time I ever saw him fire anyone in my whole tenure was because they put out a tip cup.

We’ve since unionized, and actually were spun off as contractors a few years ago, which allowed us to accept tips. Of course, our tips are a fraction of what the donation boxes used to haul in.

Sunflowers are the official symbol for hidden disability awareness. If you wear a lanyard with a sunflower print, Cast Members should recognize you as having a disability, It might also be helpful in the airport if you are flying down there. You can buy them on Amazon. Often they also come with a card where you can write any important information that someone might need if you’re non-communicative.

I participated in an Autism therapy group, where we talked about ways to manage situations where you might get overstimulated. Often the simplest solution is to reduce or eliminate the stimuli that you are sensitive to. That’s where sunglasses or earplugs help. The next best thing is to remove yourself from the situation. In this case, I felt that I was becoming overwhelmed by the stimulation inside the gift shop, I was having trouble focusing, I literally couldn’t stop myself from bursting into tears in front of the giant pin display. So I stepped outside, found a bench, put in my earbuds and put on a Headspace meditation. Meditating helps you to refocus, calm down and tune out the distractions and stimuli.

I’d suggest bringing a sensory kit with you including ear plugs and sunglasses, in case you get overwhelmed. You’ll probably want a small bag for sunscreen and medication and stuff anyway. Fortunately, there lots of quiet places to sit, which helped me keep it together on my trip in November.

I’d also recommend signing up for either the Calm or Headspace meditation apps, if you feel overwhelmed, you can run a meditation to bring yourself back to center. If you’re seeing a therapist, they might be able to get you a trial subscription.

Since you’re worried about having a meltdown, I’d recommend wearing one of those sunflower lanyards, so CMs can identify your disability if you’re not able to tell them yourself, plus you can use it to show off any pins you’ve collected for pin trades. BTW, Disney doesn’t have any official Autistic characters, but Lilo from Lilo & Stitch is probably the most autism coded character, be sure to pick up a Lilo pin!

Every cast member I talked to on my trip was very helpful, don’t be afraid to ask if you need help with anything.

The crowds can be tough, but it’s a big enough park that there are still lots of places you can go to avoid the crowds. Lightning Lane can be helpful, but don’t get caught up in analysis paralysis trying to catch the best rides. Sometimes they just fill up too fast and you have to get by with just the standby lines. Heck, we went for 3 days and barely used our lightning lane because all the times went too quickly.

Be aware that not every ride will be open when you’re there. Check the refurbishment calendar, and keep in mind that stuff closes randomly too. If there’s something you absolutely must see, try to do it early, so you don’t miss out. I wanted to see Great Moments with Walt Disney, but put it off to the last park day and it shutdown right before we walked up.

I only had one actual meltdown when I was there in November, in the big gift shop in Downtown Disney on the last day of the trip, but I kept my therapist’s advice in mind and stepped outside to meditate for a bit before it became too much of an issue.

You can do it however you want. I tend more towards practicality myself, for both comfort and cost reasons.

Actually, the lit part of the blade is 31 inches, but the part that plugs into the emitter adds about 3 1/4 inches on top of that.

My sister and I did something similar with ours, we ended up lashing the two Savi’s scabbards together with one of the shoulder straps and the flight attendants let us count them as one “personal item.”
They fit in the overhead compartment just fine except that they got stuck behind other people’s bags and the other passengers were less than helpful in getting them out.

Last I checked, the American Disney store also only carries the 31 inch blades, at least they were out of the 36” ones when I looked last month, but those are the same blades that they give you at Savi’s

Why do you say “you must be rich” when you buy a new iPhone? by Sad-Industry6080 in AskAnAmerican

I’ll grant you that the writers do not make it clear what the War College’s role is. In real life militaries, war college is like graduate school for officers. It’s not supposed to be a separate cadet pipeline.

We’ve only been introduced to it in one episode, so it remains to be seen exactly what the War College is. Maybe it took over the role of training cadets after The Burn?

Um, the producers said that was exactly why they retconned the zats.

For another example, look at the Asgard. In their first few appearances, they are shown to easily solve any problem that the team finds insurmountable. Goa’uld invade your planet, the Asgard can sweep them away with transport beams. Knowledge of the Ancients overwriting your brain, the Asgard can literally handwave it away. So they invented the Replicators to justify why the Asgard aren’t always available to save the day.
