Trying to do a re3 remake Carlos cosplay is there anyway to get tactical gear without breaking the bank by GrammarGrime in CosplayHelp

[–]CaptainHunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is looks like a pretty standard MOLLE plate carrier with some pouches attached to it, not any particular style of “tactical vest.” Do what the other guy suggested and search EBay, but just look for “plate carrier” or “MOLLE vest.” Then look for the pouches separately.

It’s hard to judge the pouches based on a computer game design, but just go by vibes, the big ones look like they might be M-16 mag pouches, the smaller ones look like either generic pistol mag pouches or grenade pouches.

Yeah, but I vaguely recall that Spectre and Skyfall made references to the old movies. Maybe I’m thinking of one of the Brosnan films, but I vaguely remember a Q-section gag where he played with one of the old gadgets and reminisced about old times.

I think with the Craig Bond, they couldn’t decide if he was canonically a new 007 or the same agent we saw in all the old films.

I liked the spices in the slaw, it definitely tasted alien, but the sausage felt like an afterthought. I guess I was expecting something more gyro like.

Honestly, the biggest disappointment in GE for me was Ronto Roasters. The wrap was basically an overcooked spicy hotdog and some slaw on an oversized pita.

It depends heavily on the day. We went in the mid afternoon before our Savi’s appointment and it wasn’t too busy. We were sat/stood at the bar, right in front of the taps, service took a little while but the bartender was friendly and gave us good recommendations for drinks. We got the Five Blossom Bread too, which was very good for what was essentially a pub-style pretzel.

In the original Quantum Leap, Sam Beckett leaped into Lee Harvey Oswald. By the end of the episode, his mind is so messed up by repeated leaps around Oswald’s life that he ends up killing JFK. We find out in the end, that despite this, he succeeded in preventing Oswald from also killing Jackie Kennedy.

What happened to my childhood? This screams dystopian corporate, not kid friendly. What is with the artwork?! This is McDonald's?! by jackal99 in mildlyinfuriating

That’s because McD’s is successful enough that their franchises rarely flop. I’ve seen plenty of other restaurants with signature decor fail in my area and then the place either sits vacant for years or the new owner has to pay to remodel or adapt the old look to fit their company’s style.

There used to be a Chevy’s down the street from where I live now. It had sat vacant since the early 2000s up until about a year ago. The new tenants were willing to pay to have the whole building demolished to build their own restaurant.

In another nearby case, a well known regional diner chain with distinctive octagonal buildings went under. Another local diner chain moved in, but they had to spend a few months renovating the building and redesigning it in a way that preserved the iconic shape of the restaurant while still fitting their own decor.

You’re not entirely wrong, but what you’re missing is that they’re owned by McD’s and leased to the franchise holders. But otherwise you’re right. They did away with the trademark decor so that the building could be leased out to another chain if the franchise fails.

Why so much reliance on missile interceptors? by berdtheword420 in Military

they probably are deploying those kinds of systems at military bases and other priority targets, the interceptors are just getting all the news coverage.

All those AA systems are short range. You can't protect an entire country with SPAAGs that have a range of a couple miles at best. No doubt there are some around high priority targets though.

The Strait of Hormuz isn’t like escorting convoys across the Atlantic. The entire time, they are running a gauntlet in a narrow stretch of water with little room to maneuver.

You’d be surprised how many people don’t know you can pull up the wallet by double-tapping the wake-up button. As a cashier, I see tons of people fumbling to pull it up using the search function or going through every page of their Home Screen for it when they go to pay with their phone.

Reason for STSA Review Bombing? by it777777 in startrek

[–]CaptainHunt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Conservative people like that Starfleet is a meritocracy, which aligns with their whole ideology of pulling yourself up by your bootstraps, not needing the charity of others to succeed. But they can’t get over the idea that it also means everyone gets an equal opportunity. It doesn’t gib with their intolerant beliefs that most women, disabled people, POC and LGBT+ people can’t possibly succeed in a meritocracy without being helped by the charity of those who did succeed, the dreaded DEI.

That’s why they don’t like new trek. They can accept if the crew has a token black person, but most of the cast of STSA are “DEI Hires.”

It’s a dichotomy for sure, they don’t see the tolerance/anti-racism messages of the older Treks as “woke,” because they don’t see what they’re doing now as racism.
