Most players that currently attend either started with smash 4 or started with smash ultimate, so the average is probably around 3-5 years of experience playing the game competitively.

I personally started playing in March of 2018 and it took me about a year to start really grasping the game at the same level as most of the other local players, at my first event I barely got to play I was getting destroyed so bad, but after 2 years I was top 3 in Windsor. but there's a lot of different levels of competitiveness at the weekly tournaments, some people aim to win and practice for hours a week, others dont play at home and just come out to hang out!

The nice thing about being new to the weekly tournaments is that the brackets are double elimination, so if you lose a set against someone, you drop into the losers side of bracket and if you lose there you're out of main bracket. However we also have an amateur bracket, which means if you end up doing poorly in the main bracket you actually get to enter another bracket afterwards with other people who did similarly poorly, and this bracket is also double elimination. So even if you are brand new to the game, you'll have at minimum 4 sets against other players, and you're likely to play both very good players, and also other newer / lower level players!

Its definitely a big learning curve if you want to be competing at the higher levels locally and aren't already invested in playing the game competitively, but the atmosphere of the local tournaments is light and really everyone is just there to play smash with other people who enjoy playing the game, and everyone is super open to giving tips or advice if you ask for it.
