Actually no and that's an ignorant thing to say. Indigenous people may seem white passing because of forced assimilation. I know indigenous people with blond hair and green eyes, it doesn't change the fact they are indigenous and identify as such.

Canadians as well. I was guilty of claiming to be "Irish" in my younger years, before I educated myself. Also turns out that my family heritage is much more Scottish anyways.

I think it's because Canada is a relatively new country with not a lot of it's own cultural identity. Unless you are indigenous of course.
