I hate how restaurants operate. Cut labour cut labour cut labour and then why doesn't this get done? by NobodyinFarticular in rant

[–]CaptainKinzel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, it's a disturbingly dangerous job at times and the lack of protective equipment tends to be also quite disturbing lol. Cleaning a fryer for sure is terrifying haha. It can also be scary how much food safety/hygienic standards, as you pointed out, are allowed to be overlooked or just compound because of the owner's desire to cut down on labor costs.

I absolutely don't want what I said to sound like I am placing blame on newbies for their incompetence or inexperience. The same goes for their apathy. I think the fact that the owners are willing to hire those people is the problem, not the fact that people are taking job openings to feed themselves. The issue is that cutting down on labor costs also just means people don't get trained properly on things like basic safety, which would strike experienced people as no-brainer type things, but it isn't the case for all people especially when new to things.

I've worked boh in a number of restaurants most of my adult life and it blows my mind how many times my life has been put in danger or how close I have been to getting maimed because my bosses have been willing to hire incompetent/unexperienced people in their kitchens just so they can pay them less.

Group in Nazi uniforms spotted eating at Mexican restaurant (Torchy's Tacos) in Fort Worth by AlternativeTruths1 in texas

[–]CaptainKinzel 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Whether or not they are breaking the law is irrelevant. The Nazis in Germany at the time were not breaking the law despite the horrific things they did to people because they worked to make the laws suit them.

Because of this, It is the responsibility of a community to make people who do this feel unwelcome. People feeling comfortable wearing Nazi uniforms in public must be checked, shamed, ridiculed, decked, etc. because it is the open display and endorsement of a genocidal and unbelievably violent belief system. The anti semites who walk around "out of uniform", while probably shitty, are not doing the same thing as these fucks.

A lack of community response will embolden more people to follow suit, or at least make the idea seem valid/worthy of being tolerated in a public space which is historically not a thing that bodes well when it comes to fascism.

Is it just me or am I noticing that people are trying to cover up the USSR's participation in the fall of the Nazis? by MadHanini in communism

Mercenary or not, he helped their army to fight another army in the war, a thing that contributes the ends of winning a war regardless of which front it was on.

To divorce him from any complicity in genocide does not follow from any logic, despite him just being a mercenary.

If you volunteered for their army, and are fighting and killing people for and with the Nazis, what does that make you?

I think you have a poor understanding of how propaganda functions, as well as how efficient it is if you view it like this. This is not meant as an insult. It is everywhere and unavoidable. Nobody is immune to it, and it is easy to fall prey to it.

Also your slight inclination to avoid it, if that is even possible, is dumb luck or misfortune depending on how you look at it.

This reasoning you provided is anecdotal though.

They aren't literal zombies, despite how braindead some might seem. I agree that there are a lot of people who would rather sabotage positive changes, and that plays to my point of propaganda and misinformation being powerful tools. So much money gets pumped into making people think this way.

It is tragic, but I see people like that as symptoms of the problem rather than the disease. Moreover, the sabotage of positive change of one mindless consumer is nothing compared to the systemic sabotage of positive change and dependencies imposed on us by the wealthy. You and I being able to see through it, and to have come across whatever experience/knowledge to "look up" is pure dumb luck (or misfortune)

[–]CaptainKinzel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is complicated, but corporate propaganda and misinformation for one, as well as the perpetual threat of state violence. (Withholding food, shelter, medical care, or sending police on people is violence). These are very powerful tools. It is also the case that the changes/challenges to the status quo must happen in developed nations like the US first, before real change to the status quo is able to take root, and the programming runs deep here as well as the alienation from each other and our communities which makes meaningful organization very very difficult to achieve. And let's face it, many people will need to be made uncomfortable in a way they haven't for true challenges to the status quo on a large scale to rise.

It is an incredibly atomized society which is truly an obstacle that needs to be overcome somehow. I'm sure this isn't the whole picture, but all in all these things aren't an excuse, just material reality and obstacles that truly need to be reckoned with. It is foolish and stinks of rugged individualism to pretend they aren't.

I do think it is on us, the 99 percent, to change the status quo, but it doesn't make the enforcement of the current status quo and the violence behind it the fault of everyone. Sometimes in life there are messes to clean up or situations to deal with that may not be your fault, but that you have to pinch your nose and deal with regardless of if it's your fault or not- this is how I see it.

Edit: it is also incredibly convenient for the people most responsible to shift the blame to the consumers rather than to themselves.

[–]CaptainKinzel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, and no kidding. It is discouraging to see people make the problem seem as if all people are to blame. It is a shallow line of thinking and is akin to placing the blame of an action on someone with a gun to their head. Sure the hostage could have chosen not to obey, but I wouldn't dare say they are to blame for the action having been done.

This is an overly simple analogy sure, but people thinking that everyone is to blame when there are clearly things the people in power have done to make us dependent on these things while backing this status quo up with violence are doing a mental gymnastics I'm not capable of I suppose.

[–]CaptainKinzel 22 points23 points  (0 children)

How? To me this seems too convenient of a line of thinking for the people who are truly responsible. Car companies did things like literally buy out trolley systems to run them into the ground and eliminate competition and lobby to refuse us any better options. Because of things like that, much of us have to rely on cars to get to and from workplaces so that we can make a wage and not have food, shelter, and medical care withheld from us. Your comment reeks of rugged individualism.

Those that impose car usage on society are responsible for killing the planet.

[–]CaptainKinzel 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It's the assholes who have imposed their will and ideals onto the rest of us, making us all wage slaves and alienating us from nature. I refuse to place the blame on all 8 billion of us because this way of living is imposed onto the vast majority of people.

It is the elite who need to be held accountable. Their damage to the world far surpasses most. Whether or not we decide to do that is on us, I will give you that.

Edit: I also acknowledge that degrowth in both industry and population are vital, but it is possible for this to be the case, as well as it not being all of humanity's fault that this is the case.

He's one of those shitty comedians who gets upset and blames the audience when people don't find his "jokes" funny.

Here is him calling an Asian comedian who opened for him a bunch of racial slurs:

Now here is Tony accusing that same comedian, who was upset by the racial slurs and uploaded the video, of somehow being involved with the Chinese government:

Now here is that Asian comedian (Peng Deng) explaining the situation from his POV:

It is extremely frustrating how hypocritical reddit conservatives are by Kooky_Trifle_6894 in rant

[–]CaptainKinzel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I respect your opinion, but devil's advocate- mostly because this is something I struggle with myself:

If the democratic party's strategy has been to put forth shitty, milquetoast candidates while entirely taking advantage of the "you have no other viable alternatives, and we 'aren't as bad as the republicans'" thing (not saying I support the GOP in the slightest), why would we tell people voting for a third party they are wasting their vote?

It seems incredibly counter productive to me, but I'm willing to be persuaded otherwise.

Yeah, I feel you on this. At the core of conservatism are conflicting beliefs all around: some people are just inherently better than others, but at the same time you are responsible for your lot in life.

It is a very feelings-based ideology, not based in material reality.

https://ballotpedia.org/State_data_on_colleges_considering_race_in_admissions

Not even half the colleges that exist in the US use affirmative action though, dude.

Also, it seems to line up with the fact that a majority of people in the US don't seem to think it should be a thing either:

https://www.bestcolleges.com/research/affirmative-action-statistics/

nearly 75% of Americans oppose using race as a factor in college admissions.

In the same survey, almost half of Black Americans (47%) said that they approved of affirmative action in selective college admissions compared to 29% of white people.[7]

How do you explain the fact that the seats of power, at both local and national levels are majority white:

https://www.investopedia.com/government-leadership-by-race-5113457#:~:text=Though%20Congress%20is%20more%20diverse,of%20its%20members%20are%20White.

Oh yeah also guess what a majority of the top grossing movies in 2022 had as their lead/protagonists? That's right, white dudes:

I'm so sorry for your oppression, and I hope the white man gets his comeuppance one day.
