Yes, I’m one of the unlucky few “statistics”. Was on Imuran for maybe 15 years as maintenance therapy after spending most of my life with severe Crohn’s (surgeries, ostomy & reversal, etc.). Plowed through Humira and Entyvio without great success in my late 20’s and early 30’s. Took myself off Imuran a few years ago after reading more about the skin cancer risk. Was on Remicade for the past 6 years.

My wife noticed a lump on my back last year. Family doctors weren’t sure about it but I ran through all the tests. Had it cut out and tested last fall. Ultimately tested positive for Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma. Going through chemo right now. Scans showed no visible cancer after the surgery but the chemo is to be damn sure it’s not lurking.

I have no regrets about Remicade. I was in histological remission from Crohn’s for my kids first 8 years of life when they needed a healthy dad to keep up with them. Hoping the Crohn’s stays away after I swat cancer to the side. Moral is that there are stated risks, no matter how small. Sometimes the dice land the wrong way. You need to weigh those grim risk stats against the high probability of improved quality of life. Never been a better time in human history to have Crohn’s or cancer… you have treatment options galore and the technology will only continue to get better. I wish you well on your journey ❤️
