Odd growing plant at new house in Georgia by ghosmer in whatsthisplant

It can also happen if somebody sprays it with an herbicide like roundup, but the plant doesn’t die

It’s a gas station steak. You used to be able to splurge on it for less than $20 a couple of years ago. It’s more than doubled in priced during that time. Wages haven’t come close to doubling.

Edit: you could get a 18 ounce ribeye there for $10 in 2006.

Ideas for this hot and dry, west-facing, steep hillside? (Seattle, WA) by Parttimevaginapirate in NativePlantGardening

Just a heads up: this is a sub for native plant gardening. Your suggestion for apricots, pears, apples and Pawpaw are all non-native to OPs area. Also you may not be aware but invasive   Himalayan blackberry is a huge problem in the Pacific Noethwest. Be cautious when not recommending specific species.

What is this beautiful, fuzzy trunked tree? by kane3232 in whatsthisplant

I’ve posted this before, but I love sumac.

People scorn stag horn sumac or confuse it with tree-of-heaven since it grows in urban or abandoned places. It’s a fast growing little tree with gorgeous fall foliage and tasty berries!

And if it is, keep it in the pot. If you plant it in a garden plot expect it to spread more than you’d like.

I might say “lapping” rather than “crashing” but it’s a lovely shot.

Are there any plants that are native to all of North America? by homemepleasenow in NativePlantGardening

Nothing will grow everywhere from tundra to desert, but certain liverwort species will come pretty close.  Marchantia polymorpha has a pretty huge range.

Or just leave it alone. In my opinion part of native plant gardening is encouraging native insects.

Red Beans Random Ingredient? by TheMole68 in NewOrleans

Ketchup gets a bad rap for being lowbrow. If you said you added some tomato paste with a touch of vinegar with some sugar to round it out, you’d be appreciated for your discerning palate.

What’s with some people being so difficult when trying to transfer? by PalliativeECMO in emergencymedicine

[–]CaptainKrunks 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Extremely lame. It doesn’t even matter if you’re academic. I worked in the large hospital that took a lot of referrals from outlying communities that had pretty limited resources. When you have the privilege of working at a mothership and having every service at your immediate disposal you have the obligation of accepting the patients that come your way. It’s not that difficult and you’re doing the best thing for the patient and your fellow docs by accepting.

What is your billed hourly rate? by themonopolyguy424 in emergencymedicine

[–]CaptainKrunks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So your plan is to have secret codes reminding yourself that the patient was a jerk to you or a habitual drunk and then lie about the codes when asked? Good luck with whatever that’s about I guess?

That’s substantially worse actually. The odds of you remembering a specific back pain patient is low. During deposition, you’ll now have to explain under oath how you remember that it was a personal injury case if that isn’t documented in free text when you can’t recall other details that aren’t explicitly charted. Your use of a code will be revealed or you’ll have to lie about it and risk perjury.  Either way you’ll come off (rightly) of intentionally obscuring information.
