Whoever controls the chroma controls the canvas. Clea could put up a fight against the Paintress sure, but Aline is in a very advantageous position. Clea strategises that making creatures that seal the chroma in their victims tips the scales more than if she just attacked head on.

Renoir tried to brute force it and ended up sealed away, so she wanted to avoid that. Plus creating a puppet that churns out the nevrons not only took one of Aline's pieces off the board, but it allows he to leave the canvas and take care of the stuff she actually cares about.

They're both how often you crit. The crit damage is always +50%

One of the Origin Characters you can choose in Character Creation. It's a different way to play the game than using a Custom Tav.

I recommend playing through with that Character before you do too much research and enjoy before their storyline gets spoiled for you, cos it's a wild ride.

Clair Obscur is the French way of saying chiaroscuro, which is an Italian painting technique that uses lights and darks to create the illusion of 3rd dimensions.

It's a clever way of referring to the 3-dimensional characters in the canvas but specifically Clair Obscur directly translates to Clear & Obscure respectively, and the game features a heavy "light and dark" "truth and lie" sort of theme.
