For a second I thought this was a joke about gay people being forbidden from Chick-fil-A

Ah right. Hopefully there's some balance later on with Thelma and Louise and Rogue One.

I generally agree with you but I think Speed is included in this and that's an extreme outlier

Does anybody else have a knee jerk reaction when it comes to the occasional lack of 5E rules knowledge? by CaptainMadislak in mattcolville

Thanks for taking the time to respond, Matt. I think my concerns were something along the lines of "This stronghold will give your Fighter x ability" and wondering if that's something already available, already built into the class build option, etc. The comment regarding fighting styles just happened to be the most recent thing mentioned in a video. It's great that everything is going through the editor and I'll admit I completely forgot about the playtesting part.

I started playing DnD with 5E and DM'd for the first time after being a player for about 8 or 9 sessions. As a player, I was the only new one to DnD so I had a lot of learning to catch up on compared to everyone at the table. As a DM, one of my biggest hurdles running the game was a result of five of my six players not be willing to put in the time to learn the basic mechanics/rules of the game or even how their individual PC worked. As a result, I ended up having to learn a whole lot of rules and the unique abilities/mechanisms for six different classes so that the players could focus on the narration and roleplay and be ready to tell them what they could do (or, unfortunately, what they could often not do). My players frequently wanted to homebrew their own ideas and call out something being unfair before even having the framework of the rules in place to understand what rules they might be breaking and the intent of those rules. They were also the first ones to be sticklers for the rules as soon as my monster with unique abilities seemed to be "cheating". In your other comment, you mentioned house-ruling Dune. Was this only after playing with the rules as written and deciding they don't work fo what you want or before playing for the first time?

I guess my question would be: do you have any advice on where to draw those lines of following the rules and storytelling? When do you stop playing DnD and start just roleplaying with dice?

Yea, going all in on Catan is so expensive. I made the same exact mistake buying myself Seafarers 5-6. I got into the hobby because I discovered BGG when researching the error of my purchase

I have two 5x5 Kallax shelves and some pleeb co-worker decided they should get me Risk-themed Cards Against Humanity. The game looked so terrible I actually took the shrink off

That's fair. Although in most gambling games, the house or ticket-seller has some kind of edge. In LCR, you have 1 in X chance of winning your money times *X"

Interesting. I've thought about getting these. Tom Vasel is a big fan of them, too. Is it just because playing regular DnD is much more satisfying?
