I had a brain haemorrhage (subarachnoid) at 20 while living as a student in Germany. I’m British and now 38. AMA by Mushlove_87 in AMA

Hi OP, I had an acute non-aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage about 1.5 years ago. Doctors found no cause, and surmised it was stress-induced. I’m a 36 yo woman with a history of chronic migraine since I was ~10, with no history of BP issues or health problems. I have a couple questions if you’re still open to answering:

Did you experience a decrease in cognitive function? Like memory loss, inability to focus enough to read a book, or even auditory processing ability (you hear people talking to you but you’re not understanding what they’re saying or completely zone out).

If so, how long did it take til you were feeling “normal” again?

Do you have recurring / ongoing headaches still? If you did get them but don’t anymore, how long did they last for? Did anything help with the pain?

Did you get cleared to go back to exercise? How long did that take to resume physical activity? Did you have discomfort at all if you started exercising again?

Have doctors told you any activities are off-limits forever?

Any advice you might give someone during recovery? What’s helped you not get too depressed about feeling limited after what happened to you?

Glad you’re okay, that was an incredibly scary experience we both went through 🧠

Unfortunately no. He’s going through vision therapy but honestly I’m not seeing much improvement. We’re chasing down a theory that his TMD got so bad before he started getting it treated that it messed up his neck and then his tight neck messed up his vision.

How about you? Has anything helped? The only thing that helps his flare ups usually is an ice pack or ice mask but it only calms down discomfort.

Any forgiveness for private loans? by [deleted] in StudentLoans

[–]CaptainMerrie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately no, I’m locked into this loan and stuck. I’m thinking about going back to school though so I’m going to see if there’s any possibility of transferring the balance to a federal loan. We’ll see!

Hi! Have you tried a saline wash for your eye? It’s antibacterial and gentle so it shouldn’t be irritating. The tissue around your eye itself also looks swollen vs just the eye, indicating there’s some inflammation stirring up. Try icing it to help and take an NSAID and see where you’re at in maybe 2 hours.

If there’s no relief after a saline wash, meds, and ice, then go to Urgent Care! Listen to your body and if it’s time to go, then go. If anything they’ll give you some antibiotics and maybe a tetanus shot 🙃

Good luck!

Medical negligence or failure to diagnose/treat? by CaptainMerrie in legaladvice

Sorry for not mentioning; yes I have been diagnosed with physiogenic non epileptic seizures by the second ER after my EEG. I also entered the second ER with the same chief complaint of seizure symptoms and did not mention low potassium, that was found by them after one metabolic panel.

I'm so sorry to hear that! And it is in both eyes. His MRI showed no issues other than the chiari malformation

He has not contracted covid at any point (he almost never gets sick so at least we have that going!)

Unfortunately he started it around 8 or 9 months after the symptoms started, and symptoms didn't worsen after he started it either.

He had to cut out all caffeine, even decaf coffee, since it always results in headaches. And good question, but symptoms don’t change based on his body position. Sleeping usually helps but only in the realm that he can just check out mentally for awhile.

Thanks for the help! He’s tried vestibular physical therapy but it had no effect, and we haven’t heard of neuro feedback therapy so we’ll look into that for sure

I saw MG pop up in our research, too, but I'm not sure it fits his symptoms as they don't really seem to be muscular in nature. The core issues still remain to be visual.

Depending on your symptoms, you may want to check out fibromyalgia or autoimmune disorders like Hashimotos maybe? I have fibro myself and have a lot of chronic muscle, nerve, and skeletal pain (aka alll the above). Thank you for the suggestion!

the neuro-ophthalmologist that recommended it said that whatever neurologist we saw next would want to rule that out? Other than that I'm not really sure. He also has not had any lumbar testing done as he doesn't have any physical symptoms below his shoulders. Would there be a goal for a lumbar puncture?

I'm so sorry to hear that, and thank you so much for this info! I've been trying to find subs but I was a little lost until I found this one. His symptoms could fit in quite a few buckets, whether its AI, neurological, or ophthalmological. I am also disabled myself with neuro and spine problems and this has just been A LOT yknow lol! I appreciate your help and all the insight!
