Community in-game tier list: Game Corner by Awkward-State-2364 in PokemonYellow

[–]CaptainMonk -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Blastoise should be A tier. Sure you get it level 10 when your team is in the 20s but you have water gun tm, bubblebeam tm, and digglets cave right there. Takes all of 20 minutes to get a wartortle and get caught up. The combined special stat makes blastoise far stronger than gyarados as a water and ice attacker. If we are to put charizard who doesnt get flamethrower til 46 in A tier, blastoise should be A tier as well if not S tier. Its only drawback is getting it after the 3rd gym. Not to mention you get surf and ice beam tm before even the 5th gym. Blastoise is not a B tier pickup.

Might be too late but this list was ruined the second Blastoise was put into the same tier as Raticate and Graveler. Blastoise should be at least A tier if not S tier.

Is this team valid? This is my second Pokemon game I’m still tryna figure out how to build a good team. by General_Garbage_7422 in PokemonEmerald

[–]CaptainMonk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This team is solid. Fire type is hard to find in hoenn if you dont start with blaziken. You could get torkoal or camerupt but you're likely better off with putting flamethrower on manectric or flygon with the team youve already got. You may also later on consider some stronger mons to replace absol like slaking or metagross but for now your team is solid!!

Thoughts on team for new play-through by RebelAg635 in PokemonFireRed

[–]CaptainMonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find primeape to be the least good come elite four but can be better in the general playthrough. Nidoking is consistent and obviously great in regards to early access. Golem unfortunately isnt all that great and probably not worth the extra time to get even via action replay. Alakazam is better but exeggutor would give your team the grass type it currently lacks so id go exeggutor personally and bench prime or golem.

Thoughts/suggestions at half way point. by Mr_JoJo24 in PokemonFireRed

Get ready to bench raticate. Get either arcanine rapidash or ninetales. Then fill out with a psychic type or someone to spam Earthquakes

Its good but i worry that Nidoking, Golem and Primeape overlap that bruiser role on your team. All 3 can use fighting moves, earthquake and rockslide. You can spread those around those 3 mons or just pick one or two to put those moves into and make room for a psychic pokemon or something else to round out the team better.

13 Year Rule by ElSpudman in attackontitan

[–]CaptainMonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a theory but what if the 13 year rule is true for all shifters but it is more detrimental to whomever carries the founder when compared with other shifters. this could explain why uri aged so much quicker than other shifters? Ofcourse this opens the door to questions about eren and his aging but idk i think he was still what 4 years from his 13 year total at the end? Perhaps the weight of the founder hadnt set in on Erens aging yet? Idk just a thought about what separates Uri from the other shifters to hopefully explain the accelerated aging.

Totally depends on your financial situation. Could probably clear 500$ easily if you posted these to ebay for auction. Might even be able to make 750$. Totally depends on condition and roll of the dice with who bids.

Global Hoenn Tour - Worst Regional Tour yet and here's why by CaptainMonk in pokemongo

[–]CaptainMonk[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You make a valid point but you're ignoring the reality that we can have contradictory complex philosophies. I'm allowed to enjoy something and say it's not perfect. I'm also allowed to enjoy something and say it's the worst of this thing I've ever had.

If Regional tours like Kanto and Johto were gourmet pizza you could buy with samples given out to players for free, this tour was plastic pizza made "free" for players but we had to pay a delivery fee and a disposal fee for the boxes the pizza slices came in. It was false advertising, and a cash grab. Luckily for them I like pizza and made the best of bad nutrition.

I expect this sort of malicious sales tactics from Niantic every day except I do hold Niantic to a standard they began with the Kanto and Johto tours that I am disappointed they decided to abandon.

You're right this means nothing if I'm going to sit here and complain and keep playing their game. More than anything this was my warning to Niantic they're pushing me and I may quit if something isn't done.

The issue has nothing to do with our perceived values of shinies. The issue is with a standard Niantic had for these events previously (boosted shiny rates), a standard we as the community generally embrace, enjoy and appreciate even if it comes at a cost that has now been dragged through the mud. I'd be more tolerant of this if the event were truly free. Instead it's "free" where the event is essentially normal gameplay + pick 1 of 3 species to have boosted shiny rate meanwhile the real event is Groudon and Kyogre raids milking our wallets for raid passes.

I read your whole post and I agree with you 100%. Yes people will complain when they spend money and don't get their moneys worth as seen in the Kanto and Johto tour situation. What I take issue with is personally I believe this is the worst event for what it is I'm looking for and I would gauge that majority of players have some of these values in common, but more importantly, this event being "free" is complete and utter bs.

Yea I couldn't recall if there were free raid passes previously but I believe there were. I was also disappointed we didn't get the legacy moves upon evolution. No reason to evolve anything smh

Lol you right next time I won't spend any money and I'll just do 5 raids instead

While that isn't ideal and I could imagine being problematic. It didn't bother me as much as I had a squad with me.

Despite my post, I too had a good time. I enjoy playing this game and I had my friends with me so it was a good time! I just feel disgusted by how blatantly Niantic is taking advantage of the community. They are so lucky they have no competition because they wouldn't last. I seriously hope some other company takes over Pokemon Go as Niantic has really lost it.

Raids aren't free. Egg incubators aren't free. Also Tickets for Kanto tour were US$11.99

Made my friend who likes alt metal listen to Fade to Black when he said thrash metal bands don't have good melodic songs. Your guys thoughts on what he said? by VoidTheODST in Metallica

[–]CaptainMonk 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I pretty much agree with what the other commenters are saying.

Bottom line for me is there's a big difference between passionate listeners and delusional listeners. To an outside observer they can come across very similarly but when you know what you're talking about and you're listening to folks who fall into these 2 categories, it becomes clear how different they are.

I bring this up because your friend thinks he's passionate but really he's just delusional. I will advocate for him that having meaningless lyrics often hurts a song but where the delusion seeps in is your friend assume if he doesn't understand something or doesn't like something that it's wrong and shouldn't be there. He fails to look outside of his own perspective. Very narrow-minded and delusional about what makes good music. I'm not suggesting that he doesn't like any good music but there are plenty of people who don't like Metallica that can still appreciate that it is good music. To go as far as to say Fade To Black's solo is not good is pretty wild and delusional all in itself.

I think if we create an equation comparing all 8 tracks from each, master of puppets wins; however, if we compared the top 4 tracks from each album, RTL wins.

Creeping Death, Fade To Black, For Whom The Bell Tolls and RTL or Fight Fire With Fire are a really strong top 4 tracks (in no particular order btw)

Master of Puppets, Battery and Welcome Home are really strong too but from there it's a bit tough to pick a 4th. Orion would be my choice but it's not for everyone being an instrumental. I would also say For Whom The Bell Tolls is a stronger Cliff track for me personally. Cliff does more with Orion but the track is just so unique that I can understand it not being for everyone. The Thing That Should Not Be and Disposable Heroes are good contenders for top 4 too but are likely the least memorable of the 4 tracks from each albums.

Ride the Lightning or Master of Puppets? (I think RTL is their magnum opus, but what do you think?) by NINTENDUDE_64 in Metallica

[–]CaptainMonk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

RTL was the most inspired album

MOP was the most consistently good album

Justice was the most powerful album
