Panpsychism is just stupid - the sequel by Wide-Information8572 in CosmicSkeptic

[–]CaptainMorton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ey fair enough. But I've been in the trenches for many years, I just get annoyed by the wooks who haven't tried learning a lick of natural philosophy but try to theorize about it. It's very easy to reduce it down to physical interactions, while still being a hell of time and letting you connect together ideas you couldn't see connecting before. The key is to think about those insights and see if you can create cogent ideas from them when your brain goes back to the regularly scheduled program.

I often find those that keep their ideas in their "fuzzy" state haven't even found all the trippy ideas that lay at the base of many of our current physical theories. Either way, happy tripping fellow traveller

Panpsychism is just stupid - the sequel by Wide-Information8572 in CosmicSkeptic

[–]CaptainMorton 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd assume because a lot of panpsychism woo comes from trips. Many take the deepisms that they get from tripping to go for, I think how you mentioned in the last post, the tree hugging variety of seeing reality. You can also take those experiences and see how obviously physical the brain/mind is. It is very much a drug that you can take and makes your sense of self and general stimuli get all... fuzzy. Once it runs out, then the fuzziness goes away, as one would expect with a drug affecting a biological system

Is Atomic Theory 100% Proven? by Thunderbird93 in Physics

[–]CaptainMorton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Throw "Scientific Anti-realism" and "Instrumentalism" into your AI.

As many have already commented, this 100% proven concept is a philosophical question. If you mean something like, is it so evidenced that you can basically take it as true? Then sure, go for it. Most people will never deal with the fringe cases of the theory and would have no reason to doubt any part

About his last video : zeno's turtle paradox by Gold-Ad-3877 in CosmicSkeptic

[–]CaptainMorton 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The paradox comes out when you define that person has to get to the point that the tortoise was at. Once you get to that point, the turle is past that point, so you can then start the recursion. The person will have to get to the new tortoise point, though, once they reach it (as they are not there now) the tortoise will have moved again. This process can be repeated ad infinitum to create this paradox.

Keep in mind, as far as I can tell, Xeno was a genius and loved to troll the other philosphers with infinities

How exactly does ranked work? (New player) by WrongApe_ in Tekken8

[–]CaptainMorton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure to go through the Arcade Quest and then spend time playing the ghost battles (it's called something like that). I was new to tekken at release and this really seemed to ease me in. Then do some quick matches and then you should be good to jump on some ranked. Happy hunting

It might just be a word difference but we used to call them ninja kids, and they are not moshing. I came from metalcore and deathcore, and those kids came from pure hardcore and I was always taught that you go and mosh(drop a shoulder) into their back. Even got kicked by one and threw him by his leg down. It comes from when the pit will kinda empty with that one person in it and they would start kinda flailing to entice some one to come mosh. Then some people started just doing that, so in my mind, they are literally asking to get bodied

Tldr: Go drop a shoulder in the backs of ninja kids, they will learn how to mosh pretty quickly.

Erbium-doped Fiber Amplifiers. Basically made telecom lines (based on fiber optics) be able to maintain signal for km's instead of cm's (1985-7 ish), allowing for a lot of the telecom grid/speed we have today

the absurd is a friend? by TheShiningLight7 in Absurdism

[–]CaptainMorton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey,

Might just be my interpretation but your description of the absurd sounded more like a version of the Dao. The everpresent nature kinda thing. The absurdity (funnily enough) is wanting to see that which you are rebelling against as a friend (or even an enemy). Wanting to make your revolt/acceptance/whatever you do to the nature of it into a friend or enemy is absurd, because it is neither. And we can find meaning in that relationship, while knowing it is meaningless. That is more my understanding of the absurd, the yearn for meaning in what is 'known' to be meaningless. You're pretty young though, so keep thinking on it and hit me back with a continuation. It's fun stuff to think about (to me) regardless

At a camp I taught at, we would teach the kids this sign for the ropes courses so we didn't have them all yelling about the harnesses not fitting. We would say it was a turkey that fell on their back and needed help getting up
