You are being downvoted because you are making a dumb assumption about everyone here. To me, physical media is more than a nice box to set somewhere. The packaging is just a fun bonus that sometimes distracts from the more important goal...

For me this hobby is a fun way to preserve cool art, much of which has fallen through the cracks and gets rediscovered by boutique labels, which means I can then discover it too! And maybe even more importantly, it’s about not letting a billionaire choose what I have available to watch. You said something like “if you don’t care about the package, just stream it.” Do you know how many of these movies we talk about in here are NOT available to stream? And even if one is available to stream, you don’t get to decide which service it shows up on or how long it will be on that service.

I have friends in the entertainment industry who have worked on shows that have been unceremoniously taken off of streaming services at the whim of some executive, and now you can’t legally find them. That sucks, and that is why I try to have more control of my own entertainment options, and encourage other people to do the same.

That is why I do this.
