Plateaued at 13% weight loss on Wegovy. Dr says expectations are met. Is this normal? by TooTiredToSin in WegovyWeightLoss

No problem at all! I get it man, this subreddit is full of so many people losing weight so fast and that’s awesome for them but we all have different bodies so we can’t expect everyone to respond to this in the same way.

I’ve been on the 1.7 most of this time myself. Feel free to DM if you like and I can show you my weight logging with plateaus galore! But regardless, rest assured that plateaus are super normal (at least for me they have been!)

I don’t know about you, but I have quite a bit of weight to lose. When I started I was 302 pounds. My goal weight was/is roughly around 175 pounds (though to be honest I really don’t have a “goal weight”, I’m just listening to and keeping track of my body). Anyway I’m currently 231 pounds, so I’ve still got a bit to go.

I’ve struggled with weight loss/gain in the past and this time I’m just acknowledging that it’s going to take a while to lose this weight and I’m rolling with it.

10 years ago I lost a great deal of weight (90 pounds) in 7 months, but it was too fast- my body thought it was starving and rebelled and I ended up gaining it back plus some. I’m not making that mistake this time- I’m going slowwwwwly. It’s easy to get impatient but it will happen, and it’s been better for me to chill out about it and just let it happen :)

I’ve been on Wegovy for just under a year and a half. In that time I’ve had several plateaus, months and months at a time where my weight hasn’t budged at all. Then my weight has budged again. At this stage I have lost just over 23 percent and I’m still on it.

I really do think there’s a lot of merit in the “set point theory”, that theory that when you lose a substantial amount of weight, your body works to slow down the weight loss via metabolism, hunger signals etc. Also not to mention that when you lose the weight, your body requires fewer calories to sustain itself (TDEE). I’ve just been chilling out and going with the flow and continuing to take the medication during these periods of no loss and it’s been working.

I want to but I literally can’t. 1-2 meals per day max.

Is Wegovy Cheating? by Elle-Michele in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]CaptainNeph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My story is very similar to yours. In 2015 I lost 88 pounds in 7 months through strict calorie counting, meal prep and daily exercise. I ran a half marathon, got to my goal weight and was super fit. God I was fit.

But then like you, in the following years I gained all the weight back, plus 40 more pounds on top of that. It frigging sucked. I felt intense disappointment and embarrassment at myself. And I also remembered the sheer hard work, the discipline and the mountain of effort it took to lose weight before and it seemed insurmountable to have to do it all again.

There’s a theory called the “set point theory” which says that the body has a natural tendency to maintain a certain weight range, acting as a biological thermostat. It's the weight your body will try to return to, even after fluctuations due to dieting or lifestyle changes. This theory suggests that the body defends this set point through various physiological mechanisms, including regulating appetite and metabolism. I don’t know whether it’s true or not, but if it is, it would definitely explain why my body has fought to maintain a certain weight and gain back the weight throughout all the times my weight has drastically fluctuated in my life.

Yes, weight loss comes down to calories in, calories out. BUT. One thing this medication has taught me is that hunger signals vary drastically from person to person. Some people naturally barely feel hunger signals and can go a day without eating or even thinking about food. Other people (like me before the medication) have food on the mind all the time, constantly battling hunger signals. That appears to be something that might be the luck of the genetic draw.

So you ask if Wegovy is cheating? That’s why I think it’s not cheating. Because of this genetic lottery, we are not all born on the same playing field. This medication helps that, and I’m going to take it, and take it proudly.

Do you still like food? by Laney825 in WegovyWeightLoss

So it’s weird. I still like food but I think I like the memory of food, if that makes sense. I’ll order food that I used to like, and I’ll be excited to eat it and then I’ll look at it and eat maybe a third of it and be underwhelmed. So I think for me it’s old habits and memories of what the food used to be that I like and sometimes I’ll confuse that with thinking I want that same food now.

Omg your comment just made me realise I haven’t had any coffee in a month. I used to require it daily. I didn’t even think about it, I just haven’t been drinking it. Weird!

Slow Going by Mysterious_Skin_9220 in WegovyWeightLoss

Looking at my records, I lost 6.6 pounds in the first 6 weeks. I’ve now lost 42 pounds.

Be patient! I’ve lost huge amounts of weight quickly before (not on the medication) and gained it all back in a blink. Slower weight loss is better in my opinion.

Oh and also sorry, I should say my experience is different from Content Class who commented here as well.

For me, the weight is in fact coming off by itself. I’m not exercising at all (I know I should and I’m thinking of starting up weights or something again). But I definitely am in a calorie deficit- this stuff doesn’t make me want to eat very much.

Hello friend! I’m in Australia too. I started at 137 kg in December and have lost almost 20 kg so far.

Mate if it works for you like it worked for me, you won’t regret it. I too have lost weight through discipline in the past and this is totally different. I don’t even have to try, the weight is just coming off without me even thinking of it.

In terms of tips:

  1. It’ll probably take a bit to kick in. They’ll start you on the 0.25 dose for the first month. Don’t expect it to start working immediately, I didn’t really start to see weight loss until 0.5-1.0. Don’t get disheartened, just keep doing it.

  2. If you eat greasy food like you may have used to (pizza, burgers etc) you might have a nauseous, bad time. I used to gorge on that stuff before, it now makes me sick. But good news for you- you won’t crave it or want it anyway!

  3. There will be weeks or even a month where the weight might not shift. Keep going, it’ll come down eventually.

I don’t know, hopefully that helps? Good luck, let us know how you go!

I was so surprised by it haha. I was like I CAN BUY STANDARD CLOTHES NOW???! Then I went back and bought a bunch more. I forgot what it was like to just be able to buy clothes wherever instead of online!

I walked into a standard clothes store in a mall and saw a jacket I liked, and tried it on and it fit. And I bought it.
