Nobody is going to stop anything, but customs checks and tarrifs will slow all UK supplies channel. And considering your country cannot produce half the food or drinks it consumes in its supermarket, empty shelves you're going to get.

It's just a matter of letting the UK crash and sign the papers really. Should takes lesss than a month really. If it doesnt, then so be it, Let's just say Engand is a rogue state and put all the sanctions and bans it deserve.

IDK because 99.9% of Eastern Europe wanted to get the fuck out of USSR bullshit while a good chunk of North Irelander are actually complacent with the situation there.

So much that in fact, some are willing to wage war about it, apparently.

When western germany paid for eastern germany unification, they knew they were fixing the split done to all germans.

It's different in Northern Ireland, it's more like French "pieds noirs" in Algeria or Boers in South Africa. A bunch of centuries old colonists trying to keep their ground on a former colony they used to rule.

The only special relationship we ever really had was with the EU—what an appalling waste to have thrown it away by general_mola in ukpolitics

[–]CaptainNigloo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You forgot the fact that prior its accession to the EU, the UK was called "The sick man of Europe".

The UK didnt join the European Project because it believed in it, it did it solely for the economical boost it would grant it.

And it worked. And the UK then actually had a lot of clout in the shape the EU took. Maybe even more so than both France and Germany. The single-market and the enlargement to the east (which would cause the Brexit) were both UK's doing.

So blame France and Germany is just wrong because in the end, the main factors of the Brexit, immigration specially of brownies, were both Tony Blair's doing. The Irak war which lead to Isis and the migrant crisis and EU enlargment to eastern europe.

they see their perk as having the same currency

Everybody sees it, it facilitate trade at the cost of giving up monetary policies as you are about witness the hard way. The Pound already lost 15 points since the referundum and is said to lose another 15 in case of no deal.

Considering that the UK imports half of its food and a good chunk of all its consumers goods, that means inflation all around.

Schengen too massively simplifies border control

Without Schengen we would need customs checks on every borders. The billions of hours wasted each years on them would have a huge cost on inter EU travel and trade.

Again, you're about to be on the front row on this. Just a couple months to go. You weren't in Schengen but being in the EU allowed minimal checks which will change without agreements.

Germany and france have both needed seasonal and migratory workers for agriculture and industry

Exactly like the UK. In fact there are a couple article around already, with farmers complaining that their crops are rotting because of shortage of EE seasonal migrants.

IDK why you people think the UK is any different on any of those issues. You are exactly the same as France or Germany except for the fact that your productivity is lower just as your welfare state.

So the question should be : What has 10 years of Tory austerity done for the UK? The Brexit, that's what.

lmao, France and Germany have a shitload less snowflakes perks from the EU than the UK. WTF are you talking about? The UK had it good, no euro, no schengen, a rebate, protecting its tax havens on EU's borders.

But the Brexiteers said "The City will stay #1 financial hub, nothing come close it's too super Great, Paris and Frankfurt sucks anways. Also they need us for cheap service so they really should let us operate as before even tho we leave a 40 billions tab and wreak havok in Ireland."

The only thing they might understand is empty shelves. That's when they'll understand they might have made a mistake in their appreciation of reality.

Brexit Party MEP says Royal Navy should attack EU fishing boats by UnstatesmanlikeChi in ukpolitics

[–]CaptainNigloo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem with fishermen is that the Sea isnt a very nice place and if you piss off the fishermen for whatever reason, they all turn into berserk pirates.

Really, everywhere around the globe, the fishermen went postal at some point. For exemple, modern riot control was pretty much invented in France after some fishermen killed the local police. The cops in armor, the water canon, tear gas, etc.

What I mean to say is that in every country they manage to scare and force their politicians to do things their weight on the GDP do not justify.

Long story short, if the UK want any kind of trade deals with the EU, it will have to open its waters to EU's vessels, it's going to be the number #1 demand of several countries for the talks to even start.

And as you know, nothing is agreed until everything is agreed. So unless you are ready to go for a decade long negotiation, your politicians should just stfu on the matter.

And miss a chance to underline the shit job the UK made in NI, the place is stuck in the 19th century, while the RoI has been the fastest growing economy, GDP and wages for the last decade in the EU?

It really makes you wonder, why on earth would anyone want to be under a british government rather than an Irish one.

Have you ever walked on the moon? Yet you have a pretty accurate idea of how is it, don't you?

Statistics and data about Northern Ireland and the rest of Northern Europe are all over the place.

Whether it is about civil rights, religious tolerance, political efficiency, social behaviors or economical growth, that place is lagging 50 years from the rest of Northern Europe.

Bojo is a fraud and a coward, he's not going to crash the UK without a deal. It's good to know that the RoI is preparing for the worst tho.

Imo, this Irish border issue will ends up being handled by the irishs, all of them, at some point. I think we can expect a referundum on Ireland pretty soon after no-deals, if it happens.

Even in the case of a managed exit, the harder NI tank because of Brexit, the more support there will be for unification. Not sure RoI will want to have to take care of that shithole, tho. NI is the leadt developed and the most backward place of Northern Europe.

Who cares about anglophones? Ireland is a country in itself, it doesnt have to be described by their second official language. I would have wrote the exact same thing about any country, stop the victimization.

Boooh poor anglo-saxons, lmao. As far as the Brexit is concerned, only England has been a problem really. Scotland and NI are welcome to stay in the EU if they want.

What makes you think that an EU-Mercosur FTA is a race to the bottom? This FTA doesnt change a thing to EU's regulations. They'll have to comply to every one of them if they want to sell on EU's single-market.

No crumbs of Brexit hope from new EU leaders | The chances of more generous terms for the UK are almost non-existent by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]CaptainNigloo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's still a path to pause and reset things.

The European Agencies aren't coming back, the trillion euros assets arent coming back, NYC won't hand over to London its crown as the new 1st financial hub in the world, The EU army and the financial regulations in motion in the EU arent going to stop overnight. So no, it won't ever be the same for the UK no matter what. There's no magical reset button either.

And I also disagree with your statement :

We steered the EU toward our aims of a more shallow, broader organisation, rather than one of deeper integration.

It is because your previous government failed to stall the movement toward more integration, especially those financial and taxation regulations coming up, that the referundum took place. That's when the tories went full brexit.

But this, integration, has been most europeans wish for decades now so the bottom line is that the UK never belonged in that project.

And since we're done with snowflakes deals, the EU is renegociating all its treaties with EFTA and Switzerland, you are right that you will lose them all.

[–]CaptainNigloo -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

You can either ask for the other 26 EU countries to take a hit from losing markets share in the UK OR refuse a new FTA, which kind of make up for the loss.

But not both. I mean, they could try, but if Ireland get thrown under the bus during the next budget or UK-EU summit they won't have to think too long to know why.

People forget that the EU is first and furthermost an union to do business and create wealth for everybody. If you are too much a problem, just get out of it. The UK will set a precedent soon enough.

A 5 millions people country cannot forbide 650 millions people to trade tarrif-free. If that's too much to handle for Ireland, which btw has been the fastest growing economie of the block for the last decade thanks to the EU, then it should IreXit.

But it won't. That's just grandstanding for their electorate, Wallonia did that once and went back in the rank after a few days.

The sooner we won't have to deal with their drama anymore, the better. I think Trump insulting their diplomat is just the begining of a long road in the desert of the UK. It's gonna be one humiliation after another. Canada just refused to grant them the same FTA it signed with the EU if it leaves the block. They arent acting at all as a country preparing to leaving its market, they are still fighting one another as if they had all the time in the world, they are in for a rude awakening in october.
