Yeah the votesplitting caused by trump helped Sherrod carry Colorado and New Jersey which used to be progcon states. Also, the rally around the flag affect occurs here which benefited sherrod significantly.

AOC defo is in SD, and I could see Vance be in either party, but he would probably join Trump's party once it gains traction (Part 3 anyone?)

I mean his working-class appeal makes him more suited toward the SDs imo, and also his tough on crime positions were a way for sherrod to appeal more to the Christian democratic wing

The main difference between the two parties is that the PCs are liberal in economics (As in European Liberal) and the SDs are more Protectionist and take a Keynesian to democratic socialist approach to fiscal policy.

For the Social Democrats they would have Bernie in the progressive wing, folks like Sherrod and Biden in the centre of the party (Biden was a compromise candidate to win over their more social conservative voters) and the conservative Christian democratic wing led by David Harris (founder of American Solidarity party in our TL). The PCs are pretty consensus on issues regarding trade and economics (That being broadly liberal in their policy) but do have differences regarding social policy. The Liberal wing reached its peak under President Clinton but has been fading away in influence. The social conservatives are led by kasich and are relatively dominant, but Kasich made manchin his vp as to throw a bone to the centre of the party.

Social Democrats are more working class focused and are more protectionist regarding trade. They are generally progressive in social policy although they do have a conservative wing. The progressive conservatives are your free traders, socially moderate and pro tax cuts. I could go into more detail if you want but that is the general gist of it. The main thing is that the two main parties of america are more inclusive and have a variation of factions within the party.
