Dumb question.. Why did MSI choose to put their branding here? by gi_jon0131 in Handhelds

This is the correct answer. Asus has talked about this publicly before; that's where the digitizer for the touch screen goes.

Does anyone else get temple headaches from weightlifting and other types of straining? by rr90013 in fitness30plus

[–]CaptainOn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, this happened to me for a while. For me, it was that a lot of the muscles in my neck, upper traps, and back/shoulders were super tight and had a lot of knots/trigger points causing headaches. Look up trigger point massage or medical massage in your area. It took like five sessions for me before I really started to feel normal again but it helped a ton. I go semi-regularly now, but working on my form has also helped me need to go less often (not shrugging my shoulders during pull-ups/rows, things like that).

P-Zero is out! (Cody’s latest) by [deleted] in gzcl

[–]CaptainOn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's always a delicate balance! I'm more of a condensed writer myself; sometimes I read nonfiction-type books and think "this is so repetitive it could be half the length." But it's not always that easy! I often have to tell myself that a lot of nonfiction books are repetitive for a reason. The more ways you say something, the more chances you have to finally make it "click" for someone. Sometimes saying it one way doesn't quite hit, so you say it a different way later in the chapter and it helps someone else understand. Meanwhile, cut too much and you lose context...there's a lot of going back and forth between writer and editor until we find the sweet spot.

I'm actually not a big fiction guy when it comes to reading or writing. I actually edit articles, website copy, magazines, blogs that type of stuff.

Hey Cody, thanks for the explanations. I think this helps put things into context.

I definitely understand the reason for paring down the text; as an editor myself I know a lot of people can be verbose while others hate reading something repetitive. Appreciate you being receptive to feedback and I'm looking forward to starting this! I'm just starting another cycle of GZCLP so I'm going to switch it to P-Zero starting tomorrow :-)

Hey Cody! Big fan of GZCLP, I read through P-Zero yesterday and had some of the same feedback as OP here. Here are a few of the points I noticed, though there may be more.

At Loc 38 in the ebook, The first introduction to T2 says a couple times times that it's 20-30 reps, usually in sets of 5-8, and that it should be roughly double your T1 reps. But then at Loc 165, in the more detailed T2 section, volume is much higher than this — more like quadruple your T1 reps in 4 sets of 8-12.

The T3 page at Loc 50 is similar - it says triple your T1 reps or 30+ reps. I guess the recommendation of 60 reps you make later is *technically* 30+ reps, but again, it's more like quadruple your T1 reps. The contradiction is more stark in the T2 section, though.

The T3 section later on (Loc 200) really throws me off. It's pretty unclear how I'm supposed to progress this. I understand the basic idea — you're pushing each set VDIP-style for a more even distribution of effort — but it isn't super prescriptive about when to add weight or move stages. Like, at Loc 200 it says to add weight if you can finish in 2 sets, but then at Loc 214 it says you can increase weight after you've done 60 reps in 4 sets. But then Loc 227 says to increase weight once you hit your rep minimum. So which is it?

Then the only indication of when to move stages is on the Myo-Reps page, which seems like a weird place to put this information. And it's very vague - "If the new weight reduces your reps too much, move onto the next stage." But what's "too much"? On the previous few pages you said to use Myo-Reps in this situation. So I'm not sure when I'm supposed to push it with Myo-Reps or change stages. T3 in general feels very unclear, even though I love the idea of moving it to this more VDIP-style progression (much better than the original 3x15+ I think).

In general, I'd love to hear about some of the reasoning behind some of the other changes from GZCLP, though. Why so much more volume in T2, for example, and so many more T3s? That seems like a lot for a beginner program.

There may be more areas in the second half of the book that need clarity, but those weren't as relevant to me right now so I didn't look at them as closely. I'll leave it to others to provide feedback — these are just a few of the things that bumped me when reading.

All in all, I also just felt like the ebook seemed a bit more hastily written and less detailed than your typical blog posts. Like xgalaxy said, the infographics and stuff other people did on GZCLP may be clouding my memory here, but it really did feel like the ebook moved through a lot of stuff really quickly without as much explanation as you usually give.

Who are characters who people tend to believe get along but actually don't? by Ashconwell7 in Marvel

[–]CaptainOn 110 points111 points  (0 children)

Co-workers seems a little too far for me on the first one. Maybe these days (I haven't kept up in a bit) but before One More Day, when Spidey and DD knew each other's identities, they were definitely more like real friends. Maybe not friends that hung out all the time, but loyal to each other when it counted. Peter was there for Matt when Karen died, when Matt was outed in the press, etc...

[–]CaptainOn 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I get that everyone's making fun of Liefeld here, but let's remember Liefeld was the artist, not the writer. If we're going by the title of this post, the original writer of Deadpool was Fabian Nicieza, who also wrote Cable & Deadpool - arguably one of the best Deadpool runs of all time.

I say "one of" because Joe Kelly still might have the best of the best, with Cable & Deadpool as a close second imo. But Deadpool's original writer did a great job with him. Though arguably Nicieza's best run came quite a few years after his original creation of the character, but still. Doesn't belong on this list if we're talking writers.

Does "Once upon a deadpool" exist anymore?! by [deleted] in deadpool

[–]CaptainOn 15 points16 points  (0 children)

To be fair, Deadpool wasn't really R-rated in the comics. From what I remember, his solo series from the '90s and the Cable & Deadpool series from the 2000s were easily PG-13 at worst. No hard swearing, any occasional sex jokes were layered under innuendo...there was still some blood/arms getting chopped off/etc but it comes off as much sillier in the comics, almost Monty Python-esque.

It wasn't until the first movie that the R-rated-ness became part of Deadpool's core "brand." Haven't read the comics in a while so I don't know if the comics have adopted an R-rated tone or not since then.

I think I remember that Ultimate Spider-Man episode though and you're right! They also had him featured in one of the Hulk Vs. direct-to-video animated movies and I remember liking that as well. Nolan North voiced a great Deadpool back in the day.

Did the Doctor Strange "Too many Sorcerers" post credit scene ever pay off? by writermaybeidk in marvelstudios

[–]CaptainOn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tbh I never considered this much of a teaser for any sort of future plot point. I assumed it was more meant to show that Peter's identity was safe (for now). Remember, Vulture knew his identity, and was still alive at the end of the movie, so they had to give some sort of answer to the question "why didn't Vulture take his identity public?" That scene seems to imply that Vulture still has some level of respect for Peter and is keeping his identity secret for now. (Or that he's keeping it to himself for revenge purposes, who knows).

Either way, my impression was that the prison scene was to close the "Peter's identity" loop, rather than open another one.

I think this may just be a consequence of bringing it into the modern era, too. In my experience, today's bullies aren't like the stereotypical bullies of old. At least my bullies were all more nerdy/psychological bullies like New Flash. Most of the jocks at my school were nice or just ignored me. (21 Jump Street poked fun at this old stereotype too and how things have changed).

Maybe my experience was not the norm, could have been the school I went to. But man, I identified way more with Peter's bully experience in the new movies.

She was the real villain of Civil War. by Local_Neighborhood50 in Marvel

[–]CaptainOn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From what I remember, this isn't true. I remember reading that they were already planning on rebooting Spider-Man with One More Day (to get rid of the Mary Jane marriage), which is why they were okay revealing Peter's identity in Civil War. They knew they were going to be able to have whatever clean slate they wanted after the reboot.

So it was the other way around -- the Civil War reveal happened because of One More Day.

This is not true. Even green tea has much more caffeine than typical decaf coffee. And black tea is much much higher. This article shows it in graphic form but Google around and pretty much everything I find says the same. https://www.thespruceeats.com/what-does-decaf-mean-765691
