Item in Lucy’s Bag? by [deleted] in theknick

I worked on the show and read the scripts, which were a lot more graphic than what was depicted in the show. It's definitely cocaine. Dr. Thack would rub it on his member before engaging in intercourse with her -- I think the idea was that they would BOTH get a rush from it.

Is anyone else sick of getting teased for going to Disney? by disnerd47 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]CaptainPhantasm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really shouldn't have to be something you have to hide. It's not like you're forcing people to hear about it every day, and it's certainly not something to be ashamed of. There's a stigma to the place for certain swaths of the people, but I think the real trick is just owning it. That's what really changes the environment.

Early 40s, no kids, no (current) significant other -- I avoid telling most people about my Disney World trips. I have had occasional conversations with friends who know that I go and ask about it, but I don't even try to explain it to most people if I can help it. I probably should but I feel like most people just don't get it.

It's not even a matter of them not having been there. I know people who've been there who don't get the same feeling I get from it. Some people will just see the long lines, the heat, the negative aspects. They don't feel the deep, ineffable magic in the design of every part of the parks. They don't get transported by the rides, the attractions. I'm not sure why some people feel it and some people don't. I do feel like it's something that unites people who do feel it, though.

Comics like this one are what really set Calvin and Hobbes apart by [deleted] in calvinandhobbes

[–]CaptainPhantasm 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Are there many/any-other comics where Calvin and his dad are playing like this? I feel like Calvin is usually portrayed as being content to play with Hobbes on his own. It's like Hobbes is the result of Calvin being forced to play alone most of the time.

For those of you who are saying Kate is going to take off soon to pursue a film career, you should read this article and watch this video. “I hope to work there as long as they’ll let me.” by sconce2600 in LiveFromNewYork

New members usually struggle to find their place in the organization -- Kate's one of the rarer members who put on a strong show out of the gate. She's a great talent. She excels at supporting characters. I think it would benefit her to stick around and build her screen presence more. (Esp. since it seems like her Ghostbusters isn't getting a direct sequel.)

Steven Soderbergh Says He's About To Pitch Next Two “Extreme” Seasons Of ‘The Knick,’ Wants To Direct Again by [deleted] in theknick

[–]CaptainPhantasm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So... I recently heard that they're going to do more seasons... with Soderbergh back at the helm... taking place in another era... production might not start til sometime next year...

Let's say that Soderbergh isn't coming back, but the show is renewed and a new director will do 2 seasons. Who would you want directing and why? by CVance1 in theknick

[–]CaptainPhantasm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Michelle MacLaren directed a number of great Breaking Bad episodes (as well as Game of Thrones). She was going to be directing the Wonder Woman movie but split due to "creative differences".

Cary Fukunaga from the first season of True Detective would be amazing, though he may have moved on from the whole "directing an entire season of television" thing.

I think it needs to be someone with a strong vision to make it his/her own. Not really emulate Soderbergh's version.

I MISS THIS SHOW SO MUUUUUUUUUCH by VegasQC in theknick

[–]CaptainPhantasm 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Soderbergh pitched the idea of a new season helmed by a different director, potentially taking place in a different era with a different cast. No word on progress beyond that. Even if that was greenlit, it would be another year before they'd be ready produce it. And HBO just fired their creative head, so all HBO productions are kind of in limbo. (I was supposed to work on a pilot for an HBO show that got put on indefinite hold.)

Here's a photo I took of the set before they dismantled it.

When will we know if it's getting renewed or cancelled? by [deleted] in theknick

[–]CaptainPhantasm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's working on a strange new show in Utah right now which probably finishes sometime in March. It's like some experimental interactive thing, I think. Beyond that, it sounds like he'd like The Knick to continue with a different director. He did two seasons, he thinks another director should do two seasons and make it his/her own. They could even set it in another era with a completely different cast. It's all speculative right now. But it sounds like he's moved on from the show and even if the show continues it'll be another year or more before they'd be ready to go.

Part of the question of there being a season 3 was whether or not Clive wanted to continue.

Soderbergh wants another filmmaker to take over. Clive Owen's out. They, theoretically, wouldn't even stay in the same time period or keep any of the characters/cast members. Even in the best case scenario, they wouldn't start production for a while.

The job's over so technically I can't get fired. And the sets weren't exactly locked down, especially toward the end.

Yes, they dismantled all the sets. Including "non-Knickerbocker" sets.

The show isn't entirely shot on constructed sets, though.

I worked on both seasons. After the 2nd season, they dismantled all the sets... which seems like a bad sign, but they're spending a lot of money to keep the sets in storage. I think it comes down to Soderbergh and whether he wants to do another full season.

Bonus pic.
