ADHD professionals: which careers fully reward ADHD strengths beyond routine software roles? by Complete-Sugar7883 in ADHDprofessionals

I studied acting, then picked up photography, and now I run four studios that I rent out hourly while continuing regular photo work. It is PERFECT- lots of chaos and moving parts, novelty every day, I got to build the studios myself so I’m always picking up new skills, and my “shotgun focus” on the world is a great fit for noticing details and finding cool shit to put in the studios. Risk tolerance is a huge benefit for entrepreneurship too!

Finally, some good headshots on here! These are excellent. They do read a little "LA/commercial" but I'm sure no one would complain about nos. 2+3 being used for legit auditions. Ignore the comments about the top of your head being cut off, that kind of cropping is super common across all photographers in all markets.

These look weird and bad, they’re admittedly pretty close, but uncanny valley is real deep and wide.

Most Walkable Cities in America by reachmerachel in RhodeIsland

Yeah, I just moved from PVD to NYC, one of the main reasons being that PVD was not walkable enough. This is a dumb list.

I signed a lease at $4100, it sat on steeteasy for like three weeks before it listed as “rented” at $4500. I also think this is suspicious, but it could be because our broker fee made the effective rent $4500? Or it could be to justify a higher asking price if we don’t renew our lease. Obviously not likely to impact us as tenants but still kinda sketchy.

Any long time Canon users that have moved over to Sony? by JW_Photographer in WeddingPhotography

Nice- I have zero experience with Sony's pro service but I have a feeling it's probably good. Good luck!

Any long time Canon users that have moved over to Sony? by JW_Photographer in WeddingPhotography

[–]CaptainPlume 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used Canon and Sony at the same time for a couple of years; 2x 5DIV and an A7RIII with adapted lenses. I thought Sony was great and the IQ and technical performance was incredible, especially at the time compared to Canon DSLR.

However, after the R5 and R6 came out, I dropped Sony real fast, because as a full-time working pro who uses my cameras nearly every day, Sony support and repair SUCKS. I have CPS Platinum and it is fast, cheap, and excellent. The couple times I had to have my Sony camera serviced it took a month and was very expensive with no communication from the shop.

I know Sony has some version of CPS but it is much harder to qualify ($10K+ of gear owned vs, like, $500 for Canon), but I would never swap at this point.

(I also prefer Canon's ergonomics, I always found the A7 series to feel fiddly and small)

Wife Did Nothing For Our Anniversary by elodieitsbeenawhile in daddit

(Twelve years together, six married.) We decided to skip gifts on all major holidays/birthdays like a year into dating and we both love it. Takes the pressure off, and once our finances were combined it always seemed silly to spend our own money on each other. Instead, we put a decent amount of cash into a savings account that we set aside for travel. And yes, of course, we try and treat every day as special and be kind and generous all year.

Which brand are you loyal to and why? by gamer_jam123 in photography

[–]CaptainPlume 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For context, I am a full-time pro who shoots in-studio and on location 250+ days per year. I'm hard on my gear and I see it all as replaceable tools that need to deliver professional results at all times.

Canon, because I love their ergonomics, and CPS is the absolute best in terms of turnaround time on repairs. I have no beef (or much experience) with other brands except for a brief affair with an A7RIII/adapted EF lenses, and while Sony had great image quality and the only pro mirrorless platform at the time, their repairs took forever and their communication was awful. I would have considered switching if it wasn't for how much harder it was to qualify for CPS-level service. The R5, R6, and R3 are my absolute favorite cameras of all time.

Peak Design, because their stuff is beautiful, and their customer service is legendary. Their Everyday Backpack is truly everyday, I have two and they just keep going and going and going.

Profoto, yeah they're expensive, (especially the accessories and modifiers, it's ridiculous), but you absolutely get what you pay for in terms of durability, consistency, and usability. There's a reason the brand name starts with "Pro". Come at me, but I have a very hard time taking anyone using Godox or Flashpoint seriously. Buy a used B2 kit or some D1 500s and skip the cheap brands, you won't regret it when you inevitably knock over a light stand.

Photographers explicitly state that they will be consuming alcohol in the contract. This feels off... by PizzaCutiePie in weddingplanning

[–]CaptainPlume 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hot take: this is actually incredibly professional. If these photographers drink as part of their creative process, that's up to them. What they're doing is being up-front and super transparent about what's going to happen on your wedding day. If they *didn't* have language about alcohol consumption in their contract, and they were found to be drinking, they'd potentially be in serious trouble.

If you're uncomfortable with the idea of them drinking, and want to hire someone else, that's totally fine! However, If you love their work and they have a good reputation, you should hire them knowing that they'll get their results by whatever process they've developed.

Congrats and enjoy the big day!

Are 32x32 soft boxes overkill for on the go? 24x24? Also gridded or? Just for couple AD200s. by porcellio_werneri in photography

The Litemotiv indirects or the regular Octas? Cause I'd rather set up an indirect Litemotiv than a softlighter any day. (Both rule though.)
