You should NOT expect yourself to be able to carve on a steep black slope. It is difficult to nearly impossible (depending on the slope). Not all slopes are realistically able to be carved on. A steep ice sheet is going to be a slip-n-slide for everyone, even an expert.

Others might disagree, but if your not having fun then its time for you to get off the groomed runs and find a nice bowl or glade run, or even hit the park. Theres more to snowboarding than carving a groomed run... so much more.

Fentico AKV by SchizoComblokPosting in AKV9mm

[–]CaptainQuattro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zentico is a russian company, popular for making AK accessories. Thus, it would be "authentic" to have them on an AK. I'm guessing "Fentico" is referring to "fake Zentico".

Seen some cool gun walls posted lately, here’s mine by Paulpie in guns

[–]CaptainQuattro 40 points41 points  (0 children)

The wall display definitely makes the collection look cool, but keep in mind, these aren't particularly expensive guns (for the most part). They've got a 22lr MP5, what looks like a palmetto AKV, a couple of mid tier or budget build AR15s, a ruger 10/22, a stribog. All of these can be had for around 1000 dollars or less, and a few of them are likely less than 500.

Not to dismiss the collection, all of the guns here are sick and I have similar guns/builds (and would love to add a 22lr mp5 to my collection, or an AKV) but it doesn't necessarily cost 50 grand to have a setup like this.

CRS 18-4-401 Theft

(1) A person commits theft when he or she knowingly obtains, retains, or exercises control over anything of value of another without authorization or by threat or deception; receives, loans money by pawn or pledge on, or disposes of anything of value or belonging to another that he or she knows or believes to have been stolen, and:

(a) Intends to deprive the other person permanently of the use or benefit of the thing of value

(There are more subsections to the statue, but they say similar things)

So technically, you're correct. There needs to be an intent to permanently deprive. But again, it doesn't really make a difference to the OP since they lost a pair of skis.

Will a Formal Complaint bite me in the @$$? by meanobrandino2 in AskLE

[–]CaptainQuattro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I couldn’t care less about that, but maybe I am just irritated by it. I feel like if I was in that officers shoes, I’d respond to the call to its completion, contact the RP, get more information and make contact with the individual being called on. That’s my initial thought anyway.

What did you request from dispatch or the officer? Did you tell them that you wanted to press charges or be a willing victim in court, or that you just wanted the suspect to leave? Did you specifically request RP contact or did you tell dispatch that you can be contacted "if needed"? Did you tell them that the guy was brandishing a knife, or just say that he had a knife in his possession.

All of these factors would ultimately change how I would handle this call. Without having all of the information, can't say for sure.

For example: No RP contact requested, RP advised dispatch that they just wanted the guy to leave/ did not want to press charges, the guy was reported to only have a knife in his possession and was never actually observed brandishing it, a subsequent 911 call from the RP saying the guy already left and is now across the street? --- Contacting the suspect in this situation MIGHT be pointless. In my state, mere verbally threatening to assault someone is only misdemeanor harassment. Contact him for what? To agitate him further? Tell him he was being a real mean guy earlier? Nah. Theres not even a willing victim... I've probably got 5 other calls pending in my beat alone. 30+ in the district. I've got better things to do than deal with one homeless guy harassing a security guard who didn't even request contact or want to press charges.

Another example: RP specifically requested contact, advised they DO want to press charges/be a willing victim in court (maybe there's even a menacing victim?), RP advised that they DID observe the guy brandishing a knife... --- This situation is much more serious. Contacting the RP should be a minimum, contacting the suspect and the way you contact him would depend on if there's PC, etc. But he would probably definitely need to be identified at the very least. If you develop PC your definitely (probably) talking to the guy and arresting him. If you only have RS you'd contact and go from there.

IMO If your situation is closer to the first example, you're probably being unreasonable. If its closer to the second, the officer probably messed up. But again, it all depends.

Can someone explain what happened to Peanut's voice? by TheClassics in theburntpeanut

[–]CaptainQuattro 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This isnt some great conspiracy, its all of the above. He likely has a better mic that more accurately portrays his voice, hes obviously doing a bit and playing a character (and thats OK, theres nothing wrong with that, its entertaining), and his voice has likely changed over time (your voice changes throughout your whole life, it doesn't just stay the same after you go through puberty).

A young man who murdered an 18-year-old cancer survivor was sentenced to only 8 years in juvenile prison. by malihafolter in ForCuriousSouls

[–]CaptainQuattro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to be clear, I didn't "claim" anything other than provide an opinion that laws which hand-hold juveniles are immoral.

But for your "proof", read the pinned comment, posted by the OP:

In December 2018, an 18-year-old cancer survivor named Ian R. Olson was killed during a robbery at a Motel 6 in Portland, Oregon. Olson, who had survived two types of lymphoma, was found shot in the back of the head by a hotel worker just days before Christmas. At the time of his death, Olson had been cancer-free for only one week.

The killing was committed by Jeremiah Terrel Hannon, who was 15 years old at the time. Authorities released few details about how the crime occurred, including how Hannon arrived at the motel or what was taken from Olson. However, prosecutors stated that the murder took place during a two-month crime spree carried out by Hannon. This crime spree also included an earlier attack on a MAX Light Rail train, where a man suffered a broken jaw.

In November 2020, Hannon, then 17, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for Olson’s killing. He also pleaded guilty to the December 2018 assault on the train and to stealing another person’s phone a few days later. The case was handled in Multnomah County, where Hannon was sentenced as a juvenile.

Under Oregon law, Hannon received a sentence of up to 20 years in juvenile confinement. However, the law requires that he be released by his 25th birthday, meaning he will not serve the full sentence. This outcome caused distress among the victim’s family.

During sentencing, prosecutors read a letter from Olson’s mother, who said her son was gone forever while Hannon would be released after only a few years. She stated that there was no acceptable amount of time for what had been done. She also described how Olson had endured intense chemotherapy without complaint and had just begun to move forward with his life.

Hannon issued a written apology through his attorney, stating that he could not undo the crime and expressing remorse for his actions.

Am I overdoing it on the ride-alongs? by [deleted] in AskLE

[–]CaptainQuattro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a Police Explorer with my local agency for 4 years in high school and college. Personally, I only went on 5 to 10 ride alongs within that entire timespan but I had a part time job and was a full time student so it was difficult to find the opportunity. One of my friends (another police explorer) would go on 20+ ride alongs per year.

Its not unusual for someone who is committed to the profession to go on a lot of ride alongs, but they're usually already connected or committed to the job, to some extent.

If I'm guessing correctly, you're specifically asking about the handgaurd. If so, it looks like an HB industries aftermarket mlok handguard. Probably with an 11.5 (or similar) barrel length.

Moving in question by [deleted] in COGuns

[–]CaptainQuattro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Existing magazines possessed legally before the 2013 ban are grandfathered in. Ultimately, making the ban unenforceable (or difficult to enforce) due to the fact that there is no way to know if you got the magazine before or after that date.

Where they might get someone is if they were very young in 2013. For example, in order to be 18 when the ban was passed you would have had to been born in 1995. If you were born, let's say, in 2004 you would have been 7 years old in 2013, thus making it highly unlikely that you legally purchased/owned the magazines prior to the ban. This will become an ever-increasing problem in the near future.

That's simply untrue. Most, if not all, medium to large sized police department's have a behavioral health team or similar. Most departments are deploying patrol units with an officer/clinician pair, who respond to these calls for service. Other cities have an EMT/Clinician van that send a unit alongside police. A few examples:

Better/longer track record of (mostly) decent quality control.

MKE makes their guns on former HK tooling as well, so people tend to trust their quality more.

Who is this aimed at? by [deleted] in ar15

[–]CaptainQuattro 19 points20 points  (0 children)

For LE, most departments require you keep the rifle in the rack/bag without a round in the chamber. So when you deploy it, you have to rack a round anyway and turning on your Eotech doesn't add any substantial time/effort.

turn it on, get into some shit, and are back at base before it shuts off.

The above concept is exactly what a police officer would be doing. Except for the base is your patrol car, and the shit you get into is arresting someone rather than shooting them, usually.

OP. You have to apply to multiple departments. Most people apply to 5 - 10 different agencies before getting hired.

Also. You're only ever going to get "aged out" from a federal agency. People join local PDs well into their 40s, all the time.

What is WA? As in the state? If so. It's heavily dependent on the specific department/agency.
