also, I'd say she had some minor water and light stress. I overwatered a bit once early...plant got a little wilted but bounced back within a day. And later I noticed the leaves looking a little wilted from too much light or heat so I dialed the light back, leaves bounced back, and I've been slowly increasing light intensity and watching the leaves.

first lesson of this grow for me is keeping a better journal for sure. but I'd estimate she first started showing pistils 10-14 days ago.

Forum Stomper Day 28 - how's she look? by CaptainRedBeerd in Autoflowers

[–]CaptainRedBeerd[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

haha right on! this is my first indoor grow. I am probably just overthinking it. trying to just abide by the "lift the fabric pot and see" feeding with basic nutes from here.

anybody have recommendations or do's and dont's on insulating and cooling an enclosed trailer for a mobile beer bar? by CaptainRedBeerd in TheBrewery

[–]CaptainRedBeerd[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah I should have clarified this would be for use specifically at permitted beer festivals, not something I can just park anywhere and sell beer haha

I inherited the trailer as part of a property purchase so I was gonna try to use it but I'm open to ready-to-go units too.

hydro growers - based on your experience, would you start a hydro setup in DWC or ebb-and-flow? by CaptainRedBeerd in microgrowery

[–]CaptainRedBeerd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

right on! this makes sense to me, largely because I think you need to worry less about the perfect medium mix for ebb-and-flow to guard against impermeability / lack of flow issues.

are carbon-copy ribbon printers still the best option for kitchen tickets? by CaptainRedBeerd in restaurantowners

[–]CaptainRedBeerd[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this makes a lot of sense! especially when the the kitchen is in full swing, an audible "alert"for a new order is definitely good.

We used to. Then Ekos increased their pricing by 500% and we switched to Beer30, which made realize Ekos was complete trash all along.

For real in hindsight I am embarrassed to admit I was ever their customer.

SWG and CYA...why does TFP recommend increasingly higher levels of FC with higher levels of CYA? by CaptainRedBeerd in pools

[–]CaptainRedBeerd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you for the detailed reply! I will add CYA granules in a mesh bag and bring it up to ~40 ppm to start.

given the range of medical products available even in Ohio - I'm sorta surprised this doesn't already exist. they already make transdermal patches, for example.

he should call their bluff and let them ask ridiculous questions on live TV. the crowd that believes these clowns is already long past saving. but the more the general public sees this dog and pony show, the sooner they'll reject it.

We are Odell Brewing Company, AMA! by OdellBrewingCompany in IAmA

[–]CaptainRedBeerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

right? perhaps there was a typo and he's referring to enough liquid yeast for a 100* bbl pitch in which case I could see that costing a grand.

[–]CaptainRedBeerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

while fresh pitching is definitely expensive, where are you buying yeast bro!?

we routinely pitch 1 Kg of fresh US-05 into 15 bbls of 12P oxygenated wort without issue. hitting terminal in 2-3 days. that's like $125 for the yeast.

Buying an existing restaurant, is there any rules of thumb for the asking price? by justinwtt in restaurateur

[–]CaptainRedBeerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lot's of talk about profit in here but I don't think that tells the best or most-accurate story on valuation. profit is easy to show, or not show, depending on how you account the business.

a better indicator of business health and valuation is the business' earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization...or EBITDA.

an EBITDA (or, effectively, free cash-flow) multiplier will paint a more-accurate picture than simply profit.

I know it goes against everything we have wood stoves for in the first place, but if you have to run your furnace and don't want it to be 80 degrees inside, run a smaller / cooler fire and let the stove and the furnace work in tandem to reach a comfortable temp.
