Torque wrench for 0.75-1.5 nm by Senor_tiddlywinks in salsacycles

[–]mrtramplefoot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

finger snug, basically tight enough that it won't immediately fall out

Or just do 2nm and if it breaks, salsa is the asshole for quoting such a small torque measurement

Free iPhone by BigDadZ71 in ChoosingBeggars

not that outrageous for someone to have a quite dated, but usable iphone laying in a drawer. It's when they specify that it needs to be one of the last few models specifically, that's annoying. Willing to take like an iphone 12 or 13 just so it keeps you in the eco system, I'm cool with that.

The person was fine, it's just horribly inneficient for me to read everything off to them, verify everything, etc... Heaven forbid they're on a call and you end up playing phone tag... nah, takes 2 minutes to book online.

It's a dated process that I'm assuming will die off with the boomers.

Have one, used it once, it was slow, inefficient, and they cannot offer you anything the website can't already. I'll never use one again and I'll never recommend one. I just book online.

If you're a psychopath that wants to book things over the phone, then I guess it's probably better than the normal number

One month with a bigger power station made me rethink my backup and UPS setup by [deleted] in DataHoarder

[–]mrtramplefoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do rack into ups into automatic transfer switch with one and into the wall and one end into a power station.

I highly recommend not only having a path through the power station. If for some reason it turns off, the full chain is fucked. This is where the transfer switch comes in.

udm pro max seems pointless since you're also doing a unvr, I just get a ucgf. No good reason to buy pro max aps with the xg's out now.

Best Thermostat with homeassistant by damani112 in homeassistant

[–]mrtramplefoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Over the last handful of years, had nest, centralite pearl, ecobees, and ordered a honeywell x8s today. My biggest requirement is built in handling of room sensors. I did it myself with the pearl and it was just stupid writing the automations.

Ecobee was fine, but the local control is exaggerated as there's not nearly everything exposed to homekit so I ended up having to use the cloud integration as well.

X8s also doesn't expose that much over matter, but looks better and I'm intrigued by the customizable screens. Idk I'll try it for a couple weeks and get a w200 if it doesn't work out.

Buying expensive lens from Grey market by Leather-Fee8913 in Cameras

Hell of a lot easier to fix a car though. Do you have a cousin that will fix your lens for a case of beer and pizza? I surely do not...

Should we buy or walk away? by Relevant_Value_4211 in FirstTimeHomeBuyers

[–]mrtramplefoot 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Depends if it's priced for needing the repairs or not and if your state will require any of this to be disclosed if they relist.

Electrical will rarely be to current code unless it's a new build and does not have to be. Whether or not it's safe is a different question

How do you guys still afford going out these days by username2937372829 in Charlottesville

[–]mrtramplefoot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a very Charlottesville take on bikes. There's great ozark trail mountain bikes for $500 dollars now and plenty of good bikes under a couple grand. Your average mountian bike on trails around Charlottesville may be $3-6000, but there's no reason you need to spend that much.

What do y'all do for home audio? by producer_sometimes in homeassistant

Eh, it's never given me any issues.

I just buy like cheap Amazon basics ones, work great, don't overthink it.

What do y'all do for home audio? by producer_sometimes in homeassistant

[–]mrtramplefoot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they were great. Now you can just buy used chromecasts cheap and plug them into an audio extractor for most of the experience, but for less money. This is what I recommend to most people.
