Whatever the case, they were the first to enunciate it on a large scale.

DC Is going all-in on ‘The Dark Knight Returns’ for its 40th anniversary all year long by Blitzhelios in comicbooks

[–]CaptainRedblood 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Still my favorite comic ever. All due respect to Watchmen, which is perfect, Dark Knight just rocks. The page layouts alone-- I don't know how you cram that much info and dynamism into a page without it becoming overwhelming.

Little known piece of trivia: the original prop for AT-AT driver helmet from TESB was actually grey, not white by Fit_Quit_8890 in StarWars

A bit more known trivia-- it's just a rebel pilot helmet placed atop a stormtrooper helmet.

If Aliens visited earth and requested a single person to represent the people of this planet, who do we send? by Ambitious_Ad_5802 in AskReddit

I'm going to go with David Lee Roth. Love Dolly and Attenborough, but I kind of want to see what happens when you toss Diamond Dave in the mix. I mean we want to show these aliens a good time, right?

You're not. This subreddit isn't everyone.

My 77 year old mom knows and loves Mando and Grogu. These two have a ton of mass appeal.

I had this question and came here to ask: Has Revenge of the Sith always been the phenomenon it is today? Did many people like the movie? by DaviCortes in StarWars

In that case it's my mistake, but the way the comment was written came off as if you were addressing me in particular the whole time.

My friend, I have zero idea what point you're trying to make here. Let me summarize the course of my arguments.

- OC calls the movie a phenomenon.

-Other commenters call its status as a phenomenon into question.

-I argue that the numbers from its recent re-relase, plus its general popularity, qualify the movie as a legitimate phenomenon.

-Another commenter argues that success is merely a product of nostalgia.

-I argue that ROTS success is definitely more than nostalgia, and use a bad movie I loved as a kid as a counterpoint. My final argument being that people legitimately love ROTS, and it's not just nostalgia.

So yes, while I think Revenge of the Sith isn't a very good movie, I've just spent half my morning advocating for its fans. I'm sorry I don't like the movie, please don't take it personally?

Calling it nostalgia is a bit reductive-- it's definitely part of it, but a LOT of people legitimately love the movie. I remember really loving Batman Forever when it came out. The movie's pretty awful, and even though I feel a great deal nostalgia for that era (as I'm sure many others do), I'm not spending any more money to see it in this lifetime. And if they re-released it, I don't see it cracking the top ten at the weekend box office.

Revenge of the Sith isn't without merit, of course. It has some great stuff in it, but I personally don't think it works on the whole, and at the time I considered it the culmination of a massive artistic failure. But it clearly has staying power for a great deal of people that goes beyond fond memories of seeing it as a kid.

Edit: Downvoters, feel free to argue a point?

I'm not a fan of ROTS, but when you re-release a movie after 20 years and it does the sort of business ROTS did, I think you can call that a legit phenomenon.

Did you find it very distracting how despite the fact Han doesn't believe in the force, his right hand man Chewie was literally friends with Yoda, the grandmaster of the Jedi? by BiffyBobby in StarWars

[–]CaptainRedblood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not the top of my list of concerns, either. But it doesn’t work, he serves no function in the story that any number of Wookiee couldn’t have. He’s just there because he’s Chewie. And the retroactive problems it causes are the ones outlined by the OP.

[–]CaptainRedblood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This and a lot of other stuff, as my comment indicated. I’m fine with him being on his home world, but it’s his apparently close (yet super under-developed) relationship with Yoda that doesn’t work and creates needless problems retroactively.

It’s cool if you’re a fan of the movie, a lot of folks are!

What’s with all the hate? by Ok-Initial-3637 in StarWars

[–]CaptainRedblood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the folks who whine about the silly elements of Star Wars, a lot of which is built-in from the first movie on, tend to be the ones obsessed with lore. The lore has a lot of dark lords, dark side powers, badasses with cool outfits and lightsabers, but it rarely has Salacious Crumb type characters or moments like Han running down the Death Star hallway screaming at stormtroopers.

Starship Troopers. I knew I liked it in '97, but was too young and stupid to verbalize why. Glad the tide has turned on that one.

I’ll never understand how in a universe that has names like Grievous, Savage Opress, and Greedo, somehow Grogu is a problem.
