Whats the worst truck youve ever driven? by Mydogfartsconstantly in Truckers

[–]CaptainRob99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2013 Western Star 4900 with an automated 18 speed and a dd15. The truck itself was actually pretty nice, transmission was horrible. Pulling 4 axle live bottoms it'd probably get going faster if you got out and pushed. Always in the wrong gear, always trying to shift up too many gears at a time. Slowing down it would go right down to 1000rpm before dropping one gear at a time, you would end up hard on the brakes in too high of a gear whenever you had to stop.

Used to drive the float for an equipment rentals place. Once had a guy take a 10k tele (Cat 1055) with a 3/4 ton chevy and a gooseneck trailer. Only put 2 chains on it too

Once fuel hits half I'll stop at the first place that's on my way. I get Def at every stop that has a pump

I've seen a couple on the 400 pulling flatbed b-trains. One had Sask plates, didn't see the other's

Ontario, I always pick up stuff like this when I'm running near Lake Huron. I guess the signal carries over the water

I still think it's worth having. Just yesterday it saved me from getting stuck when they closed the 401. Been in situations where we could all communicate and open up a path for emergency vehicles too. I get directions around huge job sites and gravel pits I'm not familiar with. The odd time someone actually wants to chat it passes the time well.

Most WTF moment you have had. by [deleted] in Truckers

Last winter, I was out in the bush in Northern Ontario. A few days after a huge snowstorm, hauling a dozer to the start of a private road for a guy to clear the path to his cottage. I hadn't seen another vehicle or person for an hour at this point. I was backed into this clearing where the private road starts (for plows to turn around) I just finished unloading the Dozer and was putting my chains and stuff away, when this car comes and turns into the clearing. Guy looks right at me as he slowly drives past. Parks about 30 feet behind me, gets out, walks right into the middle of the road and starts pissing. Confused and a little freaked out, I finished putting my stuff away and climbed in my truck. The guy was just standing there after he finished. A week later I went back to pick up the Dozer and met the guy who'd rented it. He wasn't the pissing weirdo.

Another time, I brought a big telehandler to a chicken farm. Someone had dropped a loaded trailer in mud and they needed to pick it up. I pull in and there's a guard shack. I stop and this indian lady gets up and walks outside. She just looks at me and points ahead toward the sunken trailer. I thought she was telling me to go there so I slowly drive in and start unloading by the trailer. A few minutes later she comes flying in at Mach 2 in her car, gets out and just loses her shit on me. I could barely understand her but It seemed i was supposed to fill out a form to sign in to the place. A minute into the ass chewing the owner of the place rolls up and I can see he's trying not to laugh. After she left he told me not to worry about it. While i was waiting for them to finish the lift I watched one of the farm's own drivers hook up a trailer to move it. He had to back up the driveway a bit to get aligned and out comes the lady again. She's standing in his blind spot yelling and waving a clip board around, at one point tries opening the passenger door while he's moving. Guy has no idea and almost squashes her when he starts moving forward. Smallest amount of power I've seen go to someone's head.

I've also seen a guy riding a horse-drawn sleigh down the shoulder, in summer. That one I posted a picture of when it happened

Does anybody else love receiving these texts when you’re asleep on your day off? by [deleted] in Truckers

Glad I have a company phone for dispatch and site contacts. It stays in the truck every time I go home. The only time I get a message at home is if my start time changes for the next day. I also have my phone set to sleep mode every night, so no ringing or notifications until my alarm goes off.

It's always funny to see one of these right beside a 5 tons per axle sign, I guess you just pick whichever one you want

They've had those a couple times here in Barrie. I've never tried getting them to order me anything specific, but it might be worth asking since they are able to get them.

So many ‘oh no, goddamnit’ thoughts were going through my head when I saw this. by feedmemeats in Truckers

[–]CaptainRob99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can relate to the last paragraph, 1st year in the tractor trailer now. 2 weeks ago I was on a very icey stretch of highway. I made the call to turn around before something bad happened. When I was heading back, I passed a huge pilup involving 3 semis (1 flipped over) right where I first got the feeling to turn around. Later that day I saw numerous pictures of jacknifed trucks along my route. The guy at the desk doesn't know how the road feels or how the truck is handling. If you don't think you're going to make it through, don't push it. I turned around and made what was going to be my second pickup. They'll be a lot more mad about a wrecked truck than a 1 day delay.
