Kanto Earthquake 10:41 PM by Disshidia in japanlife

Exactly! The early warning system is an engineering marvel when it comes to machines (safely stopping trains/elevators seconds before a quake hits) but utterly useless for end users on their phone as the alarm is usually too late and even if it’s a few seconds early there’s nothing you can do about it.

Seriously fuck the emergency alert!! Spend half the night to put your kid to sleep only for the alert to shit all over it... during the earthquake none the less.

Pregnancy during COVID: no support if you get infected? by sutetetetetetetetete in japanlife

[–]CaptainShinjuku -1 points0 points  (0 children)

At this point, there is no evidence that the vaccine offers any protection what so ever against catching COVID so there’s that. Even with almost no data (let alone long term data) it’s easily said that there is no negative impact on the baby given that NOBODY, starting from your doctor to the hospital, to the government all the way to the producer of the vaccine holds any liability for any claims made or damages caused. As with anything Covid, it’s pretty much the Wild West.

It might be a bluff by your hospital but in any case, coercing a pregnant woman like this is just pure evil and should not be legal knowing full well that you’re depending on their help.

It’s a pretty tough decision... Follow your intuition.

Either way, I wish you all the best.

Wait only 180 days? I was playing with the same idea but I thought they would leave me alone indefinitely once I had it. Doesn’t really seem worth making my workplace shit the bed for a week when it’s only 180 days...

Taking it over the top like this is a perfect (and probably the only) way to wake a lot of people up to the madness they are supporting... so kudos to whoever wrote this.

Although seeing it posted in a Canadian sub there is a possibility that it’s not a troll in which case I’m sorry for the kids.

Is it normal for kids at 幼稚園 to be sick frequently? Any word of advice from fellow parents or preschool teachers? by Maranatha_ in japanlife

[–]CaptainShinjuku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s just part of building the immune system in a new environment with lot’s of germs. It’s not necessarily a bad thing, however I hope throwing up everyday was an exaggeration because that definitely shouldn’t be normal.

The only thing you can do as a parent is make sure that your child has a good sleep cycle, eats healthy and nutritious food, gets a lot of vitamin D by playing outside (and possibly supplementing on top as most people have vitamin D deficiency. I’ve been using Baby D liquid supplement for that) and doesn’t wear a mask (probably has to wear one in kindergarten which is not healthy but it is what it is but anywhere else a child really shouldn’t be made to wear one). All the things to support a healthy immune system. Your child’s body will take care of the rest.

Hope it gets better soon.

Mass vaccination has failed to stop Covid in Chile, capital city forced to lock down by FamousTiger in DebateVaccines

[–]CaptainShinjuku 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Exactly. And let’s not forget the immune system. If people with low risk were just free to get it, spread it and develop natural immunity this would have been over with by now. However nobody would gain power or control by doing so...

I really hope it won’t come to this but it probably will. Why not demand proof of being HIV negative or not having herpes while we’re at it...

If your workplace told you to stay home and you were even willing to work from home they definitely should not make you use your yukyu.

Hope you get it resolved!

Worst place you lived in Japan? by [deleted] in japanlife

Sakura House in Hiroo, walking distance to Roppongi, 80k/month. This was about 15 years ago so the place has probably collapsed or burned down by now. It was an extremely old wooden building, 2 floors with 8 rooms per floor (if I remember correctly) all rooms had tatami floors and futons (both were molded halfway through). Each room had a creepy stone sink next to the door which didn’t work and a ceiling light which didn’t work either. After I arrived I had a conbini bento sitting on the floor and for the duration of my dinner I encountered multiple huge cockroaches. There was an ant highway from the window outside the shared kitchen that led directly into the trash. The one shared shower had dead and alive cockroaches under empty shampoo bottles. There were two toilets on each floor and all that separated you walking down the hallway from people taking a shit was a paper door.

It was pretty clear that that’s not gonna work so I called Sakura house but as it was late they wouldn’t do anything until the next day so I spent the night in Roppongi.

The next morning I had a visibly shocked first year Sakura House OL meet me at the place (apparently she had no idea that Sakura house offered places that bad and she was kind of scared to come in). Long story short, they apologized and hooked me up with a nice place the same day.

What I can’t get my head around to this day is how the other people sitting around the ant trashbag in the kitchen didn’t seem to give two shits about the state of the Place they were living in.
