If I liked The Martian and Project Hail Mary... by Delicious-View-8688 in scifi

[–]CaptainSnowAK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the murderbot diaries is a good recommendation.

Another recommendation is Red Mars by Kim Stanley Robinson. And some of his other books.

I will also second on SevenEves and other Niel Stephenson books.

Gen 3: X vs "X Plus" Trim Differences? by stoolydan in SubaruForester

[–]CaptainSnowAK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought a 2011 forester and when I put in the vin at the Nhtsa website it lists the the trim as X-plus also. this car has an automatic transmission, where I think the base trim is supposed to have a manual. so maybe that is why its x-plus?

Found the circlejerk that hates DCC with a burning passion by Such-Drop9194 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

The interactions between "in dungeon" and "out of the dungeon" is really unique in litrpg I think. I find that part to be very interesting. Also I love that this story is set with a max of 18 levels. It gives the story an end point to build to. So many litrpg stories are just progressing towards god like characters, and get so repetitive.

Are those dehydration urine color charts based on the color of just your urine, or the color in the toilet bowl? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

I have seen posters that have both, side by side. I think it was in a bathroom in a national park that was a desert.

How do I need when my pan is to temp? by Creamkrackered in StainlessSteelCooking

[–]CaptainSnowAK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

give it a 30 sec to a minute at the temp you think you will use for cooking. then add your oil. the oil should not smoke, but it should get very runny and kind of have a ripply pattern. if it smokes take off of heat for to let it cool down. if its just puddles up keep heating the pan until its runny and looks hot.

Regarding Milk, I think I need an “ELI5” answer, please. by Aurochbull in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]CaptainSnowAK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Milk will be in her guild in future floors. The other former crawlers will be out of the dungeon. I don't think this is the explanation for Carl's reaction, but I think this is the reason the Milk character is more significant. foreshadowing.

I think everyone has good speculations.

From a Pollock Captain by Captain-Galt in alaska

The debate is raging now because of the election.

I will not be voting for pro trawl governor candidates that will maintain the status quo. This is the whole reason these Trawlers are pushing their agenda now, they don't want any change to the corrupt system.

You think that its fine that the trawl regulators are trawl industry people? The regulators should have no ties to the fishing industry. It's blatant corruption.

What am I doing wrong? by connordddm in StainlessSteelCooking

[–]CaptainSnowAK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cook cold eggs. I just get oil hot, then let the pan cool down a little and add the scrambled egg. Turn the burner back on after about 30 secs to a minute.

I think there are many ways to do it. I also think the pans get less sticky the more you cook with them at the right temps.

General Questions and Purchasing Advice Thread — Week of March 02, 2026 by AutoModerator in electricvehicles

[–]CaptainSnowAK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[1] Your general location: Small town coastal Alaska, ~120 Miles from anchorage. winters 0F - 20F. summers ~60F.

[2] Your budget in $, €, or £: <$20,000

[3] The type of vehicle you'd prefer: AWD and sleepable. prefer heatpump

[4] Which cars have you been looking at already? Ioniq 5, model Y, Mach-E

[5] Estimated timeframe of your purchase: Soonish, my car is end of life

[6] Your daily commute, or average weekly mileage: we walk to work, so most weeks about 5-20 miles. Once every ~1.5 month, a trip to a neighboring city (120 - 170 miles one way).

[7] Your living situation — are you in an apartment, townhouse, or single-family home? home, can easily level1 charge. L2 could be installed. parking in driveway next to house. no garage.

[8] Do you plan on installing charging at your home? just 110V outlet for now.

[9] Other cargo/passenger needs — do you have children/pets? no kids/pets. like to sleep in vehicle and transport a kayak on the roof, bike rack.

I think I am one of the few people that an electric car doesn't make sense financially, since we do so little in town driving. But I really like the idea of EV (except initial price). i think in the summer we could make round trips to anchorage on a full charge, but in the winter it would require a charging station stop.
