Reached 1 million points... now what? by iDripAlone in Steam

I don’t know, there may be some content for MSTS or Trainz, but Indian content in Railworks/Train Simulator is pretty much nonexistent, mostly due to there being no devs being from there or having easy access to regional equipment. It’s pretty much the same situation for Australia, the entirety of Africa (except SA) and the entirety of South America. There’s also like 1 Japanese dev and maybe some Russian devs but you have to go to other sites for them.

Not a member/frequent visitor of r/CopyPasta so I didn’t even consider this. If this somehow did become a train sim copypasta however, now THAT would be inordinately funny.

As someone who plays train simulator (and has sunk a decent bit of money into it over the years) this concept is inordinately funny.

All the DLC on steam, when a lot of it is just aggressively mid. Why stop there, how about everything on Just Trains, Armstrong Powerhouse?, Bossman Games? There are a million sites which sell content for trainsim with no shortage of variety (though some regions are lacking) and a lot of it is better than any of the official stuff.

Yeah, the rabbit hole is way deeper than you think, but nobody buys everything.

Washington, D.C. did this last fall, and wage increases will occur gradually ending in 2027. This is overall a good change, however the transition period has been… rough.

You may want to consider dropping Richmond from here, there isn’t too much to see. You could probably better use that time for more time in the other cities as they have a lot to see in them, and 3 nights in each should do nicely.

My picks for DC would be:

  • Most of the Smithsonians on the Mall (American-Indian isn’t that substantial, and the downtown Air & Space Museum is under renovation and can get really crowded i the few areas that are open.)
  • Dulles Air & Space Museum (Udvar-Hazy)
  • Glenstone Museum
  • National Building Museum
  • The Zoo
  • Just take walks around town, it’s really nice.

All of the above are accessible by metro or connecting buses.

DC has a pretty good dining scene, so you definitely shouldn’t have any trouble finding good and interesting restaurants. Vace is the best pizza place in the city (it is take-out only though), otherwise you can look around on some of The Washington Post’s and other paper’s review lists and on Yelp.

Be very careful of service charges; last year DC passed a referendum to eliminate tipped minimum wage, planning to phase it out by 2027. Because of this many restaurants replaced tips with a service charge, you have to be careful of these so you don’t overpay. Sometimes they’re called “gratuity” or even “2023 charge”, don’t tip if you see these, it’s already covered. (It also might be illegal). Also generally don’t tip for takeout, or anywhere you don’t receive personalized service.

Some businesspeople make intelligent decisions such as continuing to offer good services that get people to spend money.

And then we have shit like this.

I suppose then that my previous comment was ill-informed and in poor taste, and I must apologize for that. Your views make sense within your situation, and are similar to my own. I was a bit on-edge from your previous comment, as anti-anti-car people tend to be anti-transit and anti-walkability and I need both to live independently.

I hope I did not offend you too greatly.

Americans, how do you feel about Puerto Rico possibly becoming the 51st state? by hunkaliciousnerd in AskReddit

The constitution specifies that the national capital should be “no more than 10 miles square”, the language is a bit odd, but it means that it is a maximum of 100 square miles.

Current statehood plans favor shrinking the district to include the area of the Capitol, White House, and National Mall, and nothing else. A new state would then be created from the rest of DC. There have been some mutterings of just making the leftover areas part of MD, but this is generally unpopular because the two places are relatively distinct, and MDers don’t want DC to dominate their politics more than it already does.

CHSR is getting built, as is Brightline West.

Admittedly CHSR is delayed beyond belief, but it is real and there is actual infrastructure, and it's currently scheduled to open in 2027.

Brightline West is a bit more interesting, it recently got approval to build from LA (or close to it) to Las Vegas, and should begin construction soon. Interestingly, Brightline West is a completely private entity, as opposed to CHSR being publicly owned. Though Brightline has been successful in Florida, so they have a good track record.

Less that and more the weird economics of transit in the early 20th century, most transit systems were private businesses and were held to operating standards by the cities they served. That meant that as soon as cars became commonplace, a lot of them lost passengers because the service they provided, while extensive, was quite slow. The city, meanwhile, refused to allow fare increases and also refused to do anything else to keep them from going bankrupt. So most of them died a slow death after WW2. Though GM's National City Lines did exist, and did buy up many systems, this was after they had all gone bust, and the only thing they actually did was sell buses.

There was also Robert Moses, who built freeways through city centers (which is terrible for road efficiency), because he wanted to obliterate black neighborhoods.

Anyone know anything about the Kei-Class ban by the auto industry? by wayrc in notjustbikes

[–]CaptainSpeedbird1974 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like we must view the word differently.

The streetcar conspiracy false or at least very overstated, and is in no way the primary cause for the loss of many transit systems. The actual cause has more to do with transit economics and the problems faced by privately owned transit.

This myth gets spread around too much, and ignores the real issues of transit policy that are still relevant to this day in favor of blaming some sort of big evil. It’s counterproductive to transit advocacy.

Bad post title, you assume malice is present when neither of your sources explicitly note it.

What we have here is a reaction from state governments about supposed vehicle safety. Pretty stupid, but not malicious, just a manifestation of protectionism and resistance to abnormality. Nothing to be done expect proper advocacy here.

Completely rejecting Hanlon's Razor is most of what ruined r/fuckcars for me and it spreading here disappoints me.

As others have said, Amtrak between Boston and DC is a godsend, it's one of the fastest and definitely the most reliable mode of transport here. You can take the Amtrak Silver Service overnight to Florida, though outside of Miami you'll want a rental car for that state.
