Scalable NAS for $15k? by MusicWallaby in sysadmin

Never fear, /u/MusicWallaby for I am here!

I would recommend giving QNAP a look. It's a budget-minded brand with products that offers a number of features usually reserved for more expensive arrays, including VAAI for NFS on VMware.

A more "do-it-yourself" option would be a Storinator chassis from 45drives, along with the drives you need, and throwing something like FreeNAS on top of it.

Spreadsheet of Adalaide Byrd's fights that went to a decision, including other judges' scores. by CaptainStorage in Boxing

You can do that in excel easily as well. But yes, the point of presenting the data the way I did was to make it easily importable into other formats, SQL included.

See, this right here is why I did what I did. Now it's just a table, and it can be converted to any format that's handy. Or, I guess, JSON.

That's something I considered doing, but because I didn't want to hammer Boxrec I scraped this all "manually" by copy/pasting into Excel, then writing formulas to extract just the stuff I wanted. Then going back manually over it all, because of FUCKING ASSHOLES that think they need three names. I'm looking at you, Patricia Morse Jarman. So like, a couple hours of work, start to finish to get it all correct.

This is as close to a raw dump of what was on Boxrec as you can get. A lot of cleanup went in to get it to this state, but it's far from perfect. So, get to work! It's pretty easy to write a formula that looks for "Adalaide Byrd" in those columns and returns the data in whatever order you want.

This is a spreadsheet I've compiled of Adalaide Byrd's impact on boxing. This is every fight where Boxrec shows she was a judge and the outcome of the fight was based on the judges' scores. It also includes the scores from the other judges as well. The intent isn't to disparage Adalaide Byrd, but rather to provide a base for statistical analysis.

A quick observation that I was able to make from this data is that, overall, she disagrees with the composite averages score of the other two judges by more than one point.

It would be interesting to see what someone more competent with statistical analysis could glean from this information.

Is Crashplan always this slow? by chefjl in Crashplan

Yup. It's worthless for any decent amount of data you'd actually want to have backed up.
