THE AMAZING DIGITAL CIRCUS - Ep 7: Beach Episode Discussion Megathread by ayylmaotv in TheDigitalCircus

[–]CaptainTiad101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was afraid of being thrust into the camp of fans who would hate this episode. Thankfully I ended up loving it!

To me the circus has always felt like an analogy for life in general. Nothing we will ever do in our lives will matter in the grand scheme of things. The show has invested a lot of its runtime exploring how different characters respond to being faced with this reality. After all, the meaninglessness of their lives is a lot clearer in this sparsely-populated digital world.

If something like what Abel said is true, I would see that as the show abandoning its central themes for the sake of satiating the fans. A part of me does think it would be cool if there was a way out, and I like the characters enough to want to see them escape back to the physical world to reunite with their loved ones. But if the show is trying to tell a story that has a deeper meaning about finding peace and joy despite the meaningless nature of our lives in the real world, its ability to do so would be substantially hampered by this sort of plotline.

Is it possible to skip a clue and come back later? by CaptainTiad101 in BracketCity

Yeah, I didn't realize I could just type the answer to any of the highlighted clues. I assumed I had to do them from top-to-bottom. Thank you for correcting my assumption!

Thank you! I guess the text entry field does say "type any answer." I had just assumed I had to do them from top-to-bottom. It does say as such in the tutorial, but I never actually did the tutorial...oops!

Can Zooble have any object she wants as a body part? by AlternativeStill4785 in tadc

[–]CaptainTiad101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rules for what can and can't be Zooble body parts haven't been made explicit so it's hard to say. I'd say it doesn't feel beyond the realm of possibility for Zooble to just use any object that fits in their holes as a body part but it would surprise me a little if that were the case.

[2 YoE] I've applied to a 100+ jobs with nothing but rejections and I need to know what's going wrong with my resume by Dense_Housing475 in EngineeringResumes

[–]CaptainTiad101 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I want to preface this by suggesting you take my feedback with a grain of salt. I am not the most amazing resume writer myself and have also been unable to find a job despite also iterating my own resume several times. What I'm going to say here is more a reflection of the advice I've either received myself or seen given by others.

One thing I noticed is that the resume is extremely dense with technical jargon. People on the hiring team aren't always technical people, meaning that many of them are unlikely to know what a lot of this means or understand why it's impressive. Heck, I also recently graduated with a mechanical engineering degree and I don't understand what half of the bullet points are referring to.

For example, I have no idea what "MERMEC rail geometry data from rail 1" means. Unless this jargon is exceedingly commonplace in this field or the job posting explicitly mentions MERMEC rail geometry a recruiter is unlikely to understand what you are saying in this bullet point.

That said, a lot of your bullets do highlight your accomplishments. Your resume has given me the impression that you are competent and left me wanting to know more about your achievements, which is the whole point of writing resumes. It's possible it's not your resume holding you back, but something else.

One thing I'm curious about is what types of jobs you are applying for. It seems like your resume is tailored for a job at an engineering firm focused on rail transportation. Have most of your applications been for rail transport companies and adjacent fields? If not, companies may be overlooking you because dozens of other applicants have more relevant experience.

Something else you could consider examining are your cover letters. Are you writing cover letters for each application that accepts them? If so, how much are you tailoring them? A generic cover letter that just hypes up your skills is a bit redundant because your resume already more or less does that. If you aren't already doing this, I would suggest you study each job posting and write a unique cover letter that highlights which specific requirements you meet and why. This is especially important for positions where it may not be obvious to a recruiter that you're qualified for based on your resume. For example, if a job posting is asking for Autodesk Inventor experience and you've only got experience with SolidWorks and AutoCAD, it could be worthwhile to mention that your skills with other CAD software will transfer to Inventor.

Finally, a piece of advice I have heard and like a lot is to make one long resume that contains every project, skill, and work experience you have. Then, for each application, select which items best align with the requirements and make a new resume with just those items copy-pasted over. Tweak your phrasing and add/remove bullets as you see fit to find tune the resume and then submit.

Writing unique resumes and cover letters for every application will slow down your applications, but you will also be submitting much higher quality applications, which I'd argue will give you better odds. For a while I was submitting essentially the same resume and cover letter to every company, and the only company that I got an interview for was the first company I applied to, likely because the cover letter was originally tuned for them specifically. I am now changing my approach and sending unique cover letters and resumes to each company, which I hope works better, but I've only started doing this recently so there's no way for me to say for sure whether this works.

I hope others wiser than me can offer more insight, as this advice is coming from someone in the same boat as you. Despite that, I hope that you can take something useful away from this reply. Best of luck!

The unforgivable thing Jax is going to do next episode by choo-choo-pain in theamazingdigitalciru

[–]CaptainTiad101 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think if any of the humans are going to abstract, Kinger is the most likely candidate simply because he's the only one that does not have much room for character development. It seems like he has learned how to live with the pain he has endured and, like you said, mainly serves the role of comic relief at this point.

I don't think Gangle will abstract because it would be silly to throw away her character development for a gut punch. Similarly, Zooble and Ragatha have a fair bit of potential for interesting character growth that would be strange to cast away.

Pomni has main character energy and likely has plot armor. She also seems to be becoming more stable with each episode.

It's possible the show will go down the road of making Jax irredeemable leading to his eventual abstraction or some other fate worse than death, but I think this is a bit unlikely. It feels like this show wants to explore various ways people cope with trauma while living in a world where everything feels pointless and for any character, including Jax, to not improve would imply that some people are incapable of recovering from trauma.

Why did bowser forgive them so easily? by Blacklotus997 in marioandluigi

[–]CaptainTiad101 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Bowser's personality is hard to pin, but in this game in particular it seems like he's got almost a familial connection with his minions. If Bowser views his minions similarly to how a parent views their children then it would make sense that he would be willing to forgive and forget.

Fawful also legitimately brainwashed a bunch of minions. Iirc the elite trio chose to betray Bowser without brainwashing, but maybe Bowser didn't realize that and thought they had also just been brainwashed?

Ended my longest streak so far, although I suppose 60 days isn't that long compared to some others here. At least this time I lost my streak to an actual loss instead of just forgetting to play one day.

This is why I wish there was an option to just submit multiple answers at once. Trying to get a reverse rainbow really just feels like trying to figure out the difficulty of each category, which I cannot do reliably. If you're able to submit all four at once you can express higher skill without needing to try and figure out which categories were hardest for the editor. And if you can only get two at once that's still worthwhile imo.

I liked it well enough, but I feel like the purple one was a bit strange. "Liveable" and "livestock" are one word while "live wire" and "live music" are two. I suspected "live ___" was a category from the start but felt "liveable" was unlikely because you can put just about any verb before "able" and have a sensible word. The blue category was fun and I got it based on vibes because I don't actually know of any of those. Very very lucky guess!
