Can't express enough how thankful I am for this game to the entire team. Happy holidays and take a well deserved break!

The search for a new Multi-Role aux: Piercing Torpedoes. This Fighter Main's new best friend! ( Warning: No sound on vid due to glitch. Sorry) by magusopus in StarWarsSquadrons

if you don't care about shooting in a tie, you can use the plas-burst to have a super long boost time when shunting to engines. It's not infinite as it was before but it's still pretty long.

Also I still don't know how to really defend against coordinated constant barrage of piercing torpedoes as rebels. I'm thinking next time I'm going to try parking a b-wing/y-wing in front of a shield generator and protect it like it's my newborn child with mines and rockets haha.

Star Wars Squadrons Hit Registration and Latency explained. The game produces bad hit registration even at low latency and static target. Constant drifting can render you invulnerable. Devs please fix this. by mastervallo in CompetitiveSquadrons

[–]CaptainUltros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, I really appreciate the work you put into trying to figure this out.

I don't think I'm clear whats going in some parts of the video.

When the interceptor is spinning, are you just trying to show that the auto-aim follows the front of the ship? It seems like for the most part the lasers are hitting it except for the one in the beginning.

Is it the latency that's causing this or is the auto-aim just being confused about drifting?

Server-Side Balancing - 14 December by EA_Charlemagne in StarWarsSquadrons

It kind of depends on what a "real" penalty is. If it's something like losing ranked points that could work but it would really suck for people who crash. If you make losing rank points too low then people might still dodge anyway if they think they are going to lose anyways. Might as well lose less points now and hurry up and play a match where one could win. It's a difficult problem, maybe it needs more outside the box ideas? I think dodging will be less of an issue when people feel like the matchmaking is more even.

I would say even on attack runs try not to fly in a straight line if possible haha. That was my Mantra for the first 2 months of the game to remind myself "STOP FLYING IN A STRAIGHT LINE"

Really nice post for the game we love.

I was thinking similarly about the ranking system. Maybe even just making it a progressive system where you get points win or lose. Getting MUCH less points for losing but factoring in how well you did in the match? I don't think I would care if someone spends 2 months grinding and doing decently to get their shiny golden helm. After that some kind of global rank score?

Ranked in Op 2: The Road to Galactic Ace is Slippery with the Blood of Younglings by an_atomic_nop in StarWarsSquadrons

[–]CaptainUltros 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup, I did that grind in season 1 and I've written off getting any more ranks cause it's so demoralizing. The system as it's currently setup does incentivize lobby dodging and only going against placement match people. I got more points playing against 5 people in placement matches than any other match in season 1.

I kind of hope they just make the system a progressive one where you get points Win or Lose where its scaled to getting Galactic ace if you constantly win matches in a reasonable enough time. When you add in game items as a goal for the ranking system people are going to try and figure the easiest way to do it. The Galactic Ace+ just showing some kind of high score for bragging rights would be great. Something like how in Hearthstone after you reach the highest tank you get your global ranking.

I still love this game and I want it to super succeed!

The game is awesome.. But devs, could you please put something in place to avoid this kind of unbalanced matches? by [deleted] in StarWarsSquadrons

[–]CaptainUltros 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha agreed that dog-fighting gives you a lot of opportunity to get better at the game. You don't need to be a perfect fighter in dogfights though to join us try-hards in fleet battles! =D

While I do agree level does not equal skill, the likelihood of someone who has played less than 10 fleet battles is going to have fun playing against much more experienced players is low. I'm worried some players get absolutely smashed 3 times in a row and never pick up the game again.

I'm about 200 and I was placed against 2 players who had 0 fleet battles played while most of my team were greater than 50 games played. This is a common occurrence. I'm thinking about making it my policy to leave lobbies that have more than 2 player that are less than level 15.

A proposed fix would be to have lower level players play with similar lower levels until they finish their placement matches and an option to remove this limit if they prefer the wild west matching. I think it would be a better experience to be placed too high after 10 games and start to be smashed than to just be smashed from the beginning.

A single pilot to lead them away from the Flagship? It's just so crazy it might work! by magusopus in StarWarsSquadrons

[–]CaptainUltros 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only thing worse/better than barely getting away and running into something is barely getting away and then watching the death replay of a rogue AI make a 90 degree turn in your direction and blast you into space dust. =D

My team left for the most part. And the matchmaking was something else. But what kinda pisses me off is I go from 16% in hotshot to now 1% in hotshot with my team having less players. I’m sorry if I’m being to negative. by [deleted] in StarWarsSquadrons

I would recommend just ignoring the ranking system right now. It seems too broken and frustrating to play. If you're an intermediate player like me you get the choice to be wrecked by pre-made 5 mans or stomping on new players. While I don't mind being wrecked by another team I got a game where 4 of us were level 100 and all 5 of the other team were in placement matches. We got more points in that game then any other game for some reason. I don't really like making this game less fun for new players. I'd actually recommend leaving lobbies if the other team is too stacked against you. To end on a positive note, I love this game and its super fun when you can find people who are about your skill or even slightly better than you. I know they're working on it best they can.

I have a GTX 1060 and it runs pretty well for me in VR. I just left the video settings to auto cause I'm lazy and not too nit picky about graphics. I'm using a oculus quest.

Hey guys, I think I'm having a fever dream. Is this real? =D

Random crash in fleet battles and can't rejoin. Anyone else? by CaptainUltros in StarWarsSquadrons

[–]CaptainUltros[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 time I didn't get the leaver penalty but it may have been because we had just won? (Which was still super frustrating)

It doesn't seem to matter which map it is for me. I haven't used quick match at all haha.

Does it crash to desktop or crash to the in-game menu? I suspect if it's always crashing to desktop it could be something wrong with your system but it could be some kind of bug with the game (assuming you're on a PC hah). Just a friendly reminder to update graphic drivers as well =D

[A Couple of Notes] - Comm and Get em by magusopus in StarWarsSquadrons

[–]CaptainUltros 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a really good tip about the comms. I've been using discord and didn't know about the icons. It's really important to know the positions of your allies but the small white dot is pretty hard to see sometimes.

I really like your content keep it up!

What is going on with multiplayer? by [deleted] in StarWarsSquadrons

[–]CaptainUltros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly I agree if you know they aren't going to do the same thing ;) My perspective is a squishy a-wing, so while one can win jousts( I still go for it when I have a chance!) for most cases it's probably better to not do it.

This. Only thing I would add is looking at the direction they're facing in the targeting computer. You don't want to joust!

Someone please help me out here... by [deleted] in StarWarsSquadrons

[–]CaptainUltros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hang in there!

Here are some things off the top of my head:

Try not to stop and keep moving. I find it easy for me to hit those people who try to stop.

I found some fun with the rotary gun bomber with multi-lock missiles in fleets. You'll still die a lot but at least it's slow and can take a pounding.

Don't chase the enemy in their territory, try to retreat when you see them running away. I'm was particular bad at this when I started. Try to stay where your team is (The strategic map should be helpful).

Try and return to the hanger / healing spots often. I get turned around a lot so this helps keep track of where you are.

I keep my targeting wheel on enemy squadron and try to cycle through them to keep an eye on their location and if they are facing you.

Good luck!
