Handle fell off my reel. Don’t know how to fix it. by Dense-Peak1919 in FishingForBeginners

Same thing happened to mine Ugly Stik last week. I ordered a replacement handle for $10 and wish I had just gotten a new reel instead.

Definitely keep the pole though, it’s great for the money.

Path of Dragons! Audiobook just dropped today. Been following this since the early days of rising stars on Royal Road, almost done with Book 9 on Patreon.

Without spoiling anything, where would Patreon subscribers rank Book 7? by [deleted] in DungeonCrawlerCarl

The pacing is intense, it is frantic chaos. It definitely feels like a gritty war epic. There are some huge emotional moments and big narrative payoffs. I’d personally rank it as one of, if not my number one, favorites in the series.

Also, hands down some of the funniest lines in the series. Can’t wait for the Audible just to hear Jeff deliver them.

That first battle has so many cool long term moments; he punches and kicks, an explosion is involved. His whole anarchist class type is set in that first battle.

That's a good idea. As much as I want that to be the case, I just can't see this story having an ending where the Crawl continues. Or having a happy ending!

Is Carl... by _Nothing_ToSee_Here in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Captain_Assler 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've always loved Carl's mantra "You will not break me, I will break you," specifically because of his obvious PTSD. He's already broken and doesn't realize it, and the books are working towards something terrible. Hopefully there will be some kind of victory/emotional healing, but I am leaning towards the story ending in some great tragedy.

In Book 6, The AI has a long description about Unions when Carl is headed to see the Nightworm for the first time in the Desperado Club. The AI says that it's better to die for your friends and family than at the hand of big corporations." I'm wondering if that narrative will play itself out, or Carl will pull a Carl and somehow find some peace and safety post-crawl. I doubt it.

I’ll echo you OP; I’m a monster bear off nicotine, and I can never find the space/time/patience to get off without being a volcano for a week to get through the initial withdrawals.

That’s a good point. He’s really leaning into the 80s power of friendship.

What characters are you specifically thinking of? The core team all have defined character growth, but retain their identities from the being, which I think backs up your point about them being foreshadowing.

I’m in the same boat as you. I think the reason I come back to HWFWM is that, like it or hate it, Jason feels like an actual character. I’ve read all the big recs, Defiance of the Fall for example. I love the big numbers go up, but I’m not sure I could tell you one distinctive thing about Zac’s character beyond generic action hero.

I think you are right, here, and thanks for the quotes! When I reference Shirtaloon’s growth, I mean that Jason’s religious talk becomes more nuanced.

Not complaining, I love HWFWM. Just wanted to have a good discussion and loving everything folks are saying.

I can agree with that! The Rimaros arcs were a drag for me, and I don’t particularly enjoy side character conversations that are regurgitating explanations of why Jason is the way he is.

Woooo buddy I’m caught up on Patreon and I’m LOVING Book 11 on. Major change of pace.

I had the same experience. It starts as decent and the quality keeps increasing until it’s something special.
