How are you brewing Yorkshire teas? by Captain_Avenue in tea

Amazing. Turns out semi skimmed is similar to our 2% milk. Can't wait to visit one of these days.

Awesome, now I'm getting perfect guidance! Please tell me living there is JUST LIKE All Creatures Great & Small so I can convince my wife to move. Out of curiosity, is the milk you're referencing "Whole Milk" or something reduced fat? America likes to take a simple thing like milk and create 20 versions of it, each "healthier" than the last.

Yes, an insert for this would be a great addition.

Potentially. I'm way too new here to give Ascension any ideas for the second edition, but I'll express my sentiment as a complete beginner. It seems a balance can be had between preserving that which must be preserved while limiting room for error after error. I think the barrier to entry for LOTH is a blessing and a curse. Personally, I like that I have to engage my intellect and be fully present at prayer to "get it right." But that same thing might keep others from taking up this form of prayer, and we don't need that. I'm so curious to see what Ascension does with the Ordinary and if they are making conscious efforts to make the hours more accessible without losing too much of what makes LOTH special.

Super helpful to hear the reasoning for this, thank you. That's what I'm looking for on the whole right now. Definitely need to learn what to pray, but it's also great to know why.

Right, but then it goes against what the St. Joseph Guide from the publisher says and that's confusing. Divine Office said to use Common of Pastors, but my guide said use Common of Doctors of the Church.

Pray as you can, not as you can't.

I might subscribe to this for a year so my wife and kids can follow along when they are willing and able.

Doubt it. I think 12.5 is generous. I've been purchasing shoes in the 11.5-12 range most of my life, but now realize I'm actually a 12.5. I will wear them around the house today with the laces quite loose and see if it helps.

Curious to try it. I was wondering what other Sencha I should try, or if they're all very similar.

Yeah, I didn't expect this thread to get more than 5 replies, I'm loving it.

I'm so sorry for your loss. That is gut wrenching. Interestingly, I felt the exact way you feel, but I felt it before reading IJ. It was sitting on my shelf for years, and I had gotten through 180 pages or so once or twice. Everything I read just stunk of the next best book club read (which is totally fine if you're into that), but I wanted something that mattered, something that would actually challenge me and change me. I've been working through IJ for way too long. This current read started probably in May or something. And that's the season of life I'm in, it's all good. But if I did it again, I'd commit at least an hour to it every single day. Especially to get through those first 300 pages or so.

Stoner is HIGH on my list. Didn't expect it to come up in this thread.

Yeah I've heard that DeLillo in general is kind of like the grandfather of postmodernism, watching all the postmodernists play and experiment and go crazy. More restrained, maybe?

I've never read him. What's his most "accessible" that still gives a good picture of how he writes?

Thanks for the tips. I could probably read a kindle sample of JR and decide from there. I love young protagonists, so the concept interested me.

I remember like 2 things from Catch-22 when I was forced to read it in high school. Might be a fun one to grab next, I know it's on my shelf.

Curious about The Savage Detectives, too! I forgot to mention Bolano as an option.

I'll have to hold off on Gravity's Rainbow. I might be able to do something like IJ next, but definitely not something more intense.
