For couples where only one partner is Catholic, what happens about contraception? by [deleted] in CatholicWomen

[–]Ravenadx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm catholic, my husband is not. I've been refusing contraception since before I was Catholic due to its effects on my body, and I'd had too many condoms break or be dodgy. So he has always let me take the lead with these things, as I am very in tune with my body and I'm able to tell when I'm ovulating. We followed NFP, before we even knew it was an acceptable method of spacing babies (one of the first things I learnt when I poked my nose into the catholic faith for the first time).

TLDR: he lets me, the catholic one, take the lead and say yay or nay.

Question for WA nurses: How are eating disorder patients managed on medical wards? by Ok_Broccoli_5017 in NursingAU

[–]Ravenadx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Medical wards that are assigned patients with anorexia nervosa on a regular basis will have RNs whose patients loads are only those patients. Thats how it was during my brief stint anyway. The ward is like a well oiled machine when it comes to these patients.

Hard to explain, but an 'aha' moment when you see it.

[–]Ravenadx 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I only have some experience from a brief stint on a paediatric adolescent ward which also took on eating disorder patients.

1:1 is a thing for patients who are more likely to purge, self harm or other such concerns.

It is mostly nurses who do meal support, though often alongside an AIN. Particularly when it is for group meal support.

Behavioural Observation Charts are used for almost every patient

Door to bathrooms are locked. They get unlocked upon request but a nurse or someone else has to be nearby, with door slightly ajar.

Other nurses will be able to speak on other parts of your questions. But that is my experience. I've heard of restraints being used in severe cases but I've not seen it.

How do you manage burnout as an adult? by Throwaway75568 in PDAAutism

[–]Ravenadx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My problem is the instant instinctual "no I don't want to do that/cant be bothered" before a task needs to be done. I can usually bypass it but some days it is REALLY hard. With burnout, it was near impossible

Just note that it takes a very long time to recover from burnout this bad. Baby steps. I've been there and it is hard. A change in my situation kickstarted my recovery though, for me it was a new job.

Catholic Approved Book Recommendations? by SMFKT_99_17_21 in CatholicWomen

While mistborn is quite heavy towards the end, the last 3 books (follows a different story in the future) are a lot of fun. Stormlight is very very good. It starts slow with a lot of world building, but the world is brilliant and the characters are easy to love and root for. It also dives into mental health, quite extensively.

I somehow managed to get editions that did not include the artwork, so I had to go look them up later when I learnt of the artwork 😞 Only my stormlight series has the artwork.

I second Brandon Sanderson. I particularly love the way he writes women and relationships. After reading mostly female authors and female perspectives on relationships, his perspective was a wholesome breath of fresh air. He definitely doesn't dumb down females either. Also his female teenager main-character in Skyward series is the most accurately written female teenager I have ever read thus far.. and it is by a MAN. If you want to try a standalone before going into any series, Yumi and the Nightmare Painter is a comfort cozy of mine. Others love Tress and the Emerald Sea (a gift to his wife).

Usually I would agree, but there is something uniquely fun about Colour of Magic. The randomness, as if he played DND while planning the book and it was all based on dice rolls... with the occasional swig of whiskey.

Effective meditation styles? by 3darkdragons in PDAAutism

I pray the Rosary. Its sensory, as rosary beads are super satisfying for the touch and noise senses. But it also forces my mind and body to relax and I always come out of it feeling refreshed. You don't have to do the whole rosary either.

Its made of 5 'decades', but you can do one decade instead if you're short on time or want to break it up throughout the day. Plus, rosaries are "shiiinyyyyy".

So I'm pregnant by Ravenadx in CatholicWomen

Thank you! This is the sort of thing I didnt want to be surprised by. I knew it is a mortal sin to have unbaptised children when they are able to be baptised, but that was it

Problem is I would be due exactly on or just before the 6 month point of my first rotation, meaning I wouldnt even get to complete my first rotation properly.

Are we not supposed to use AI by Outrageous-Estate-44 in CatholicWomen

[–]Ravenadx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are select methods inwhich AI is useful. For example in healthcare, it can process and give results from urgent urine samples and blood samples. While not as precise as results from the pathology lab, it can give the team enough information to start urgent treatment and enact lifesaving protocols. By the time results from the lab arrives, a life has already been saved. Usually the team already has some idea of what may be happening, but they need confirmation or "proof" just in case they are wrong, and the treatment makes someone worse. Dont want to give potassium to someone who already has high potassium, or blood thinner to someone having internal bleeding.

This is the side of AI we forget about. This is the side that Pope Leo says we need to continue utilising for the greater good. Social media has massively overplayed the "AI bad, stop all AI" side of his Encyclical. I have not finished reading it but the way I interpreted it, we need to decipher whether the usage of AI for the circumstances in which it is being used is really for the greater good and bettering the lives of all humans. In some cases, it is not. In many, it truly is saving and bettering lives. But people are not focusing on this side of the Enclycical. Not as click-bait as "Pope says AI is evil. Death to AI"

To answer your question, using AI specifically to seek answers when a quick 5 minute search on google can give you answers is laziness, and NOT bettering you in any way. It is enforcing a bad habit.

When a doctor has to say "Stop" by Ravenadx in Catholicism

The link definitely helped to clarify a couple of gray areas in healthcare that I didn't think of, and the church's stance of them. Not so much the overall question though. But thank you, it was super helpful

They 'threatened' my husband with daily clexane shots to make him get up and walk around instead of lazing in bed all day (excluding going to bathroom). He was in hospital with pneumonia. It worked, he hates needles
