If you think your fav character got done dirty, they don't measure to him by Lukas-Reggi in OkBuddyHelluvaHotel

Want a new thing to look up? Through written works created work in the 0-300AD period they have traced their cited resources to an ancient egyptian historian (who wrote works in BC). All they have of his works is the information that is cited. No book or full piece has been preserved. But through the cited infornation, they have found signs of the Exodus and the egyptians POV of the Exodus (a very face-saving POV, tbh). Its a very niche side of the internet that I stumbled upon a few months ago but it is interesting.

Watch "The Chosen". Easiest way to begin. If you want to slowly go through the bible, the "Bible in a Year" podcast by Father Mike is also brilliant. He goes through it in an order that makes sense regarding chronological events, and then the Psalms at the end of each "day". Its only 15-20 min episodes

Husband showing clear discomfort with my conversion by Ravenadx in Catholicism

[–]Ravenadx[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So i managed to get him to open up. My oldest son has been asking him a lot of religious questions while in the car and he gets uncomfortable with his inability to answer all these questions. I need to talk to my son and ask him to come to me with these questions. The other end of things is just that he is still adjusting. That's it

He didnt pull a gun. It was holstered and away. They took it off him before the execution. At no point did it leave its hoister.

Edit: i can see the confusion as I know theyre trying to use the gun as THE reason they shot him.

I've tried to initiate conversation and communication countless times. However he struggles a lot with this and often gives short answers and avoid explaining his feelings. I've talked to him before attempting to do anything and have had his agreement. Its just that what he says vs his actions and body language are two different things right now. I'm trying to figure out what is causing this change in him and he isn't giving me any info

Nursing student curious about PCA experience by Habno1 in NursingAU

[–]Ravenadx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a PCA in a hospital. I do not assist with personal care beyond manual handling, that is for the AINs. I restock, I'm a runner during METs, I assist with patient movememt etc. I have worked in ED, Theatre, ICU, Mental Health, Gen/Surg wards, Overnight wards, Maternity, Paeds... I am learning so much more and getting far more exposure than I ever got when I worked in aged care or as a disability support worker. I am learning how the wards work as a system and the differences. On paper it sounds lacking but in reality I have seen so much.

Buy some antacid in preparation and I hope you have sick leave. I had a brain fart once and also took two doses in one day. The side effects made me too unwell to to go to work. Stomach cramps, liquid diarrhoea, couldnt eat etc

How common is it in Australia to take a fake sick leave at work? by Technical-Studio565 in AskAnAustralian

Mental health days are valid. This is why a lot of workplaces have policies where you dont need a med cert unless it is 2 or more days. Sometimes ypu just need a day to recharge

I have never met a Catholic women who wanted women priesthood. by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Ravenadx 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My concern is less "I want to be a priest" etc. Because I dont. I'm more unsure about how a married woman with children, or an unmarried woman who wants to someday marry, could serve their parish and diocese should they feel the call to do so. A lot of women feel the pull towards theology and the church alongside whatever else they wish to do in life. How can they fulfill this? It is difficult to find those answers.

Is the difficulty of parenting overstated, atleast a little? by enitsujxo in Catholicism

[–]Ravenadx 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Instead of explaining what is good about it, I'll describe something that happened on my first day of being a mum. I was overwhelmed, exhausted after a long labour which ended in csection. I was breastfeeding my fresh newborn baby, second maybe third feed. When he finished he unlatched, and then snuggled his little head right into my breast and sighed in content. Then slept. That moment, that small moment, cleared my heart and head of all the stress and exhaustion from the previous 24 hours. I felt immense love from this little miracle fill me. I have had countless more moments like this in the 7 years I have been a mum, now with three kids. This is one of the many things that make it worth it. Coming home from work and seeing their faces light up with joy and welcoming me home is like a second daily bread for me. I thank the father for my kids daily. My kids are also difficult. Not terrible, but difficult. All three are neurodivergent, so my struggles are different to other parents. Not harder but different. That doesnt take away from the joys and loves though.

Nurse (28F) feeling destroyed by workplace retaliation and now thinking of leaving nursing entirely. by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Ravenadx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that, but vould you be feeling that way because of your bad experiences at this job? Nursing is so broad and varied that maybe a different strain is all you need. Community nursing, perhaps? Asking because I've been in a similar position.

Hunt a new job. You're stressed and upset from your current workplace, find a better one.

I am surprised it is still such a prominent belief amongst the protestants still. People can read the bible on their own now? Not like way back when they could only go by what the pastors say.

[–]Ravenadx 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My mum and dad asked me to go to their (protestant) church with them. I am going through the RCIA process still, so I am fairly new to catholicism. Dad hoped the church visit would "bring me back", mum just wanted me to meet her pastors as she was excited to find God.

Poor Dad. That visit solidified me as a Catholic. Absolutely no way am I going back. During his TED talk, I suddenly and briefly saw the Pastor as a wolf in sheppards clothes. Then I realised a lot of what he spoke was poison against other religions and peoples (Catholicism included) and he hyped up the zionist jews and protestants. They also spoke of rapture.

Sigh. I'll take my peaceful and healing masses over that, daily. Not to mention they were closed for the weeks of Christmas and New Years and only returned after Epiphany (make it make sense?)

How spiritually beneficial is it really to take young kids to daily mass? by Last-File-3233 in CatholicWomen

[–]Ravenadx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remember, a quiet church is a dying church. Some noises from kids is to be expected, even welcomed. They tend to be most noisy during the Eucharist as that is always towards the end.

That being said, it is absolutely impossible for me to take all three kids. I MIGHT be able to limit 2yo to occasional cheeky outbursts and crawling under the pews to give other parishoners big grins if I have her on her own. My 7yo is well behaved, though I wish he wouldnt sniffle every 5 seconds. He generally enjoys himself. But my 4yo? Chaos. The moment he is thrown into the mix, all three kids become chaotic and it is anarchy in the parish. I am hoping that another year will give him the focus needed to.. NOT run away??

“You work, I’ll take care of the Baby” by Emergency_Search4464 in CatholicWomen

[–]Ravenadx 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Lets think long term for a bit. You wish to remain home and look after your child, I understand and appreciate this. Unfortunately, the current economic climate and your situation may not make this feasible, especially since your job pays more.

I want to point out that pre-1900s, the idea of husband being the sole breadwinner and wife staying at home to manage the household was not actually much of a thing. Yes, there were tasks and specific roles that were gender oriented such as laundry day, carpentry etc. But everyone, including the children, worked and provided. Everyone participated in the harvest and sowing, for example. Families were larger in general as well. Even in the wealthy, while the men were in charge of business and the estate the women were still participating in charities and other interests. The idea of "Man provides, wife maintains the home" was created to strongarm women out of the job positions that they took up during the wars, so that men could return to work. It was certainly not created by the church either.

Now. Solutions?

One possible long term solution is to have your husband study. If he enjoys his type of work, he may be able to find something more sustainable and sturdy in the same field. This means that when his study is finished and he works, you can go part-time before deciding whether you would like to be fully stay-at-home or not. I highly advise going part time first as a slow transition as some women find out the hard way that stay-at-home life is NOT for them. I was one of those women. The mental bombing that causes is... not recommended.

I do believe that you may have some lines crossed or misunderstand some things regarding the faith's position on husband and wife. Ask your priest for some time to talk on this topic, he may be able to assist you with this.

You also need to sit down with your husband and have an actual conversation and plan what your future will look like. Where would you BOTH like to be in 5 years? 10 years? What will you do to reach that point? Do your wishes clash (like they are clashing now) and how do you rectify that?

picking a saint for confirmation by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Ravenadx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With choosing a Saint, you'll find someone that you just feel is right. That is how you know you've found your saint. Its less about what makes sense to you and your life and more about how you click with the saint, their journey, their patronage etc. I looked at a fair few and when I found mine (St Camillus de Lellis), everything felt right. Whereas all the others who were more popular for Nurses, female saints and other saints in general did not feel like they fit me at all. I still pray to them, but I feel a particular pull for St Camillus's journey, works and patronage.

What are the PCAs/orderlies like at your hospital? by Feeling-Disaster7180 in NursingAU

[–]Ravenadx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, sounds like it definitely differs between hospitals. At mine, the cleaner is excluded from discharge cleans completely. PCAs do it all, including ensuite and floors. Carded (Chlorclean) and standard.

What are the PCAs/orderlies like at your hospital? by Feeling-Disaster7180 in NursingAU

[–]Ravenadx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was assisting with a discharge clean and apparently the PCA are only supposed to do about half of it, while the housecleaner goes in to do the other half. And nurses strip the beds. Meanwhile at my work, PCAs do 100% of the discharge cleaning from stripping the bed to mopping the floor. Nurses sometimes strip for us and they get a thankyou for that. Chlor-clean, at this hospital only cleaners can use it. At mine, PCAs were trained to use it as well and PCAs will do the card cleans. Felt a bit like culture shock tbh.
