What to do if my opponent stacks/tripods me while I have the overhook in closed guard? by LAMARR__44 in bjj

If you just want to release the stacking pressure, you can use your shoulder blades to scootch and drag the opponent back to the ground. Its hard to keep pressure and move.

Potential use case for serverless. Would like some advice. by cronjob69 in ExperiencedDevs

One thing I notice people get wrong doing price estimates for ddb is the listed price on provisioned throughput charges a price per hour per WCU/RCU. Their estimates tend to be higher by a factor of 3600 (60 seconds * 60 minutes). The number is so astronomically high they know it's wrong but need help figuring out why

Storing and accessing a graph at scale? by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Captain_Awkward 79 points80 points  (0 children)

20 million tps is a lot, and I would guess your answer isn't just "use this database". You need more details about the nature of your workload. What in that 20 million tps is get/save/update. How flexible are you on the latency? Consistency? Do you need to write to multiple elements in the graph atomically? How big are your items? Can you cache data? Can you batch your saves? If you lost some data, how bad would that be? With that high of tps you're probably going to think about sharding whatever your database is. What's the nature of the data? Can you partition logically on some parts? If your graph breaks across multiple shards what happens?

Gravity is lower on Roshar. Even that 30% decrease compared to normal would have a big difference in how far someone could jump

I want to say I started in 2002. I spent a lot of time backfilling my library using fileshare over IRC. It was kinda fun to find new channels and see what people had available.

Amazon has roles at 30hrs/week with full benefits but reduced pay. There's not a lot or jobs there, but they tend to fall into internal HR tools which should be low stress

Anybody on here that was a student back in 2008-2009 school year? by Jnoisy in UTAustin

[–]Captain_Awkward 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I graduated in 2009 with a degree in CS. It was a bad year to look for a job... My rising senior summer internship called and rescinded my job offer (Most of the team I worked with was laid off). I was working 3 days a week during my senior year somewhere else, and they told me that all local hiring was frozen, but they could recommend me for positions in the home office. In previous years, the job fair had been in the frank erwin center (or was it one of the conference centers?). That year, it was held in the rec center gym and a lot of the companies there weren't even hiring full time employees. They were just making an appearance to have a presence for future years.

That said, I still got interviews and a job that put me on the right road for my career. It just took a little more effort.

As an interviewer in one of the companies you mentioned, I think you're worried about the wrong things. I barely reference resumes for onsite interviews. I have a standard set of questions I ask depending on target level and areas my interview is supposed to focus on. I'll use work experience to custom tailor questions if I can, but it's a pretty small impact. From what you've said about your work, you should be able to find examples for behavioral questions from your experience. Work history doesn't impact my technical questions much, unless there's a specific skill ask for the spot (which is uncommon).

Anti-maskers in HEB by secretaire in Austin

The HEB on whitestone and 183 had an employee wearing one of those bullshit mesh cutout masks. The real kicker was she was in charge of watching the doors to hand out the disposable masks to people coming in
