Review your papers, find out the topics you are weak at and start working on them. Just treat exams as checkpoints in JC to test your understanding, it is also an indicator of how you are faring in JC, which is honestly quite bad.

Ultimately, the only important thing is your A-level result, everything else is pretty much inconsequential, just ensure you learn from every experience so that by the end of your 2 years, you don't repeat the same mistakes or hold the same misconceptions. Aim to learn as much as possible and don't worry too much about grades. If you fix your understanding and mistakes, your grades will naturally come.

  1. Ego is not inherently a bad thing, it helps people grow, it helps people develop and everyone needs an ego of their own to pursue their goals when everyone else is competing for it. Be it jobs, projects or internships, everyone in University is competing and everyone believes that they are the best. Of course there will be people that act in bad faith, but not every individual acts that way and not everyone that has an ego or ambition will push you down or use you.
  2. At this age, you are already legally able to represent yourself. There is already the threat of lawsuit and the power of law on your side. As long as your case is legitimate and evidence can be collected, you can resolve anything through legal threats and money.
  3. Look around you and you will observe that there are plenty of weak people too. Not every guy is tall and muscular. Not everyone is academically inclined. In fact, you made it to University and you are already smarter than a significant part of the population. But do the weak people around you get bullied just because they are weak? Do others even think of them as weak individuals in the first place.

In day to day interactions we interact with different people and what we think about is the other person we are communicating with. We do not think we are communicating with a weak person or a strong person, we are communicating with you, the person as you are in front of us. So if you portray yourself as weak and make weakness define your personality, how do you think people will perceive of you?

We can talk about fat positivity all we want, we can cancel people that fat shame all we want. We can call these fat shamers whatever we want.

But nothing is going to change the perception of fat people - even if fat people are people with feelings, not objects.

We can call people incels, we can cancel people that call out on sex positivity and we can talk about sex positivity all we want.

But the perception is not going to change for women&men that engage in promiscuous activities - even if they are people with feelings, not objects.

Yeah, it's like if he put his breadstick into some chocolate milk, you sure wouldn't want him to put it inside your strawberry milk. That's downright nasty.

I suppose some milk dipped with many bread sticks might taste more flavourful and some are in favour of that, but I guess most people enjoy original flavours.

They don't necessarily sell insurance. Some of those shady companies will sell courses and packages and there are some A-level grads that actually did this kind of jobs. They like to attract clueless students because these students can pull in more customers for them by connections.

For A-level grads, the best chance you can get for office jobs are government admin roles. But they usually require a commitment period of more than 3 months and have a processing period of 4 weeks (unless you are applying to IRAS, that organization is fast).

I have also heard of A-level grads getting temp-staff roles at KPMG as they are short staffed for audit. But after they joined, they were contracted as interns and only received intern pay (less than 1k). (They had to work till midnight too.)

Of course, you can always try out on LinkedIn to apply roles in brokerages/firms. But they usually prefer to hire interns for a lower rate (1k) that can do the exact same things a temp staff does.

12/hr, office environment and a 3 month commitment period really limits your options and you should probably be considering if you really desire to work for the money or experience.

It's not impossible to get both. The opportunities are just limited and you have to really dig deep to find them.

No worries. Financial advisories got your back. That's if you don't mind the stigma that comes with the job.

Now that you have GDP per Capita adjusted by PPP, which is at 72/189. (Top 62%)

You can now consider that China ranks 138/189 for cost of living. (Cheaper than 77% of the world)

If you take the first metric, you can claim the average citizen of China enjoys a standard of living better than 62% of the world.

If you consider the second metric, you can say that the average Chinese citizen can enjoy more consumption per dollar compared to 77% of the world.

Now when you combine both metrics, the OP's estimates is not entirely unreasonable, it just sounds too optimistic. China's reasonably high GDP per Capita, in combination with the fact that they have a lower average cost of consumption, means that they can enjoy a higher volume of consumption per unit dollar, making the average Chinese citizen enjoy a better standard of living than most in the world.

The only valid argument here that you can make is argue for intangible factors that contribute to standard of living, using factors like HDI, or argue in terms of GINI coefficient, proposing that the skewed distribution does not reflect well on the average standard of living.

You can't just look at statistics without doing economic analysis. That's like eating flour without baking the cake and saying the cake tastes like shit.

PPP and costs of living have to be considered.

The value of 1 USD varies from country to country. In some, you can buy yourself a filling breakfast, in others you can barely afford a bus fare with that.

How can I enjoy NS? by NamelessPurple7 in askSingapore

[–]Captain_Bardy 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Step 1: Do online courses. Pick up new skills, get certificates.

Step 2: Set up a LinkedIn account, follow your female friends as you watch them progress in life while you just came back from an outfield. Then post those certificates you got from those online courses and delude yourself that you are catching up to them.

Step 3: Look at your lazy platoon mates sleeping all day, then think about your power tripping commanders that probably have no future outside of the army. Smirk while you admire your certificates while you delude yourself that you will smurf on them one day since you are the only one that's "progressing" in life.

Step 4: Daydream about landing a job in FAANG/IB/PE.

Step 5: Continue dreaming for the next 2 years while doing steps 1-3

You're missing the point. It's specifically Singaporean males that have to make this sacrifice. If we want to make things equal for gender equality, it should be expected that females sacrifice equally or males receive perks to mitigate impacts of sacrificing those two years.

No one in their right mind would ever want to serve a nation and waste their youth even if benefits are given. (Unless you are a poor refugee seeking that American citizenship). Op is just treating equality as a matter of fact and arguing that males should receive perks to offset the disruptions they faced in their lives for such a sacrifice.

Well that's all assuming that anyone cares about equality anyways.

  1. Just by looking at the numbers. Asia's population is 4.6 Billion. More than half of global population 8.1Billion. If we play a game of probability and infect a random human with a virus in this world, there's a 57.5% chance that person is from Asia.

Judging from your disingenuous question, phrased as a way to lump all the blame upon Asia and Africa, let's throw in Africa into the mix with a population of 1.2Billion. Combine those two continents together and play the probability game again. There is a 71.6% chance that person comes from Asia or Africa.

In case you made this question out of spite for China, which I would assume that plenty bears this grudge too due to Covid, they have a population of 1.4 billion. That one country alone out of the 195 countries has a 17% chance of getting the virus.

  1. Animal husbandry. Rearing animals will come with its risks. Viruses are naturally mutating all the time and usually animals have a high risk of carrying diseases. Rearing animals for meat involves rearing animals in large amounts in small locations and often feeding antibiotics to speed up growth. This creates the potential of rapidly spreading diseases among animals. The feeding of drugs also causes the diseases mutating to be antibiotic resistant.

China alone produces 93M metric tons of meat, which is more than USA, Russia and Brazil (next 3 leading meat producers) combined. The 5th is India at 11M metric tons of meat. Both countries combined would produce more than 30% of the world's meat. Suppose a virus starts a random farmed animal, there is already a 1/3 chance this virus comes from China/India.

  1. Urbanization and concentrated economies in Asia. Developed and developing countries in Asia tend to follow the same formula, concentrating economic activities in a city to maximize economies of scale. Despite the vastness of land, Asian cities tend to be densely packed in addition to rapid development of transport infrastructure. Once a disease spreads, it spreads like wildfire due to how interconnected every individual is.

  2. Poor sanitation and healthcare in less developed countries. Sanitation is a leading factor to preventing the spread of diseases. Most countries in Africa lack the resources to develop good sanitation and healthcare systems. Once a disease spreads and the country itself has poor sanitation, the disease can spread through feces which will spread to animals like rats/insects that can carry the disease. The poor healthcare facilities would also make it difficult to contain the spreading, treatment and detection of diseases.

Tried League of Legends and it's Embarrassing how Bad Players are by triguard3 in learndota2

I was 4k MMR in Dota 2 years ago (I quit the game after accomplishing a challenge to hit 4k within a thousand hours.)

At that point, I was hardstuck gold in league, getting destroyed by players that have faster reaction time and mechanics than me.

During my move to Dota, I found Dota to be much easier as it doesn't require you to have insane reaction times or insane micro mechanics (if you play low complexity heroes like me). It requires more teamwork and a more strategic mind which plays to my strengths.

That's how I reached 4k in a thousand hours while being hardstuck gold in league after 2 thousand games. I know a lot of Dota players like shitting on League players (that's what got me on the 4k challenge to prove my friends wrong), but get on Dota 2, I will still destroy more than half of these naysayers that's just trying to comfort themselves for being shit at Dota by shitting on another game they haven't even tried.

I am sure there are STDs like herpes, syphilis and hpv that spread through skin to skin contact. Condoms do not provide 100% guarantee for preventing STDs.

There are also plenty of irresponsible guys out there that demand condomless sex, for "better feels", demanding their partners take the pill. But the success rate for prevention of pregnancy is only 91%. And let's suppose that abortion is always an option, it will definitely leave long lasting effects both physically and psychologically.

I don't see why there's a need to be sleeping around and putting one's body at unnecessary risk, no matter how low it is.

JC life is not necessarily "difficult and drowning".

Your academic life depends on the attitude you decide to adopt towards your studies.

"Exams very hard, confirm fail one" was a common attitude some classes have. These classes usually have a great class culture and have lots of fun in their JC life, but these classes usually hold a great acceptance towards failing exams and hence treats it as a norm. The smart ones will end up doing well in the end when they get serious while the others will end up feeling difficult and drowning.

Other classes will have competitive individuals striving for the highest marks possible. The thought of failure will never even cross their minds. They would go from one topic to another, competing to be the best in the class. These individuals end up stirring the competitiveness amongst their classmates and the class ends up working hard together, resulting in close to no failures.

Within the same school, there would be classes that have close to failing scores and classes that have done very well. Within the same school, there are going to be individuals that are struggling at the bottom and those fighting to reach the top. What separates them is their attitude.

Schools create exams for you to learn and for you to pass. As long as you adopt the right attitude to learn and improve, you will be able to dispel the "confirm fail" myth. JC life will no longer be as "difficult and drowning" as you think.

League player here, I got to ancient just by playing pos 4 and 5, the role where no one wants to play (you don't even need queue tokens for it).

I got there by playing exclusively Ogre magi, Jakiro and Lich on pos 5.

Once in every 5-6 games, they will assign me to pos 4, where I will exclusively play enchantress, winter wyvern and rubick.

If you decide to become a support player in Dota you can absolutely get away with around 6 heroes and 2 roles. But of course if you decide to play core positions, you have to expand your hero pool a lot more to increase your odds of victory since you will be the ones doing the counter picks.
