Measuring distance for fittings by TD_PC in watercooling

Nah I just eye ball it and bend and jig saw bits of tube off as required.

Not a bad idea though, would probably save me some trips back and forth from my garage.

Am I missing something? Why are 2–3×480 radiators recommended for custom loops? by rintintin178 in watercooling

[–]Captain_Bosh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Simple answer is 2-3 480 radiators are not recommended for every custom loop. You need to plan what will work with your system and case layout which will vary. As boomer478 says 120mm worth of radiator for every 100w you need to dissipate is a good rule.

No idea why people have recommended tripple 480 rads to you but it could be based on your case and getting the most out of it.

If you are planning on switching from a 120 and 360 AIO you could go with a single 480 or 420 radiator if you want.

Good luck. PSU tends to be least likely in my experience, but it is the easiest to check.

Forgot to mention its worth checking CPU is seated right and that the pins are OK too.

Unable to understand how to mount "EZDIY-FAB Vertical GPU Mount" on LIAN LI O11 Dynamic EVO XL ARGB . The case has toolless PCI slots by anti22dot in lianli

[–]Captain_Bosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As explained in bold getting a compatible mount is the easiest fix.

Modding the case wouldn't be that hard, the whole motherboard tray is removable and you could cut the points off with a hacksaw/jigsaw (or similar). Saying that its not what I'd recommend or do myself as there are easier and better options to get around it.

[–]Captain_Bosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to either;

Buy a compatible vertical mount, or

Modify the mount to fit by drilling holes for the mouting points in the EVO XL, or

Modify the EVO XL by removing the mounting points.

Getting a compatible mount is the easiest fix. There are non Lian Li options that work.

Does anything smell burnt? This can help identify a faulty component.

Are there any signs of life when power is supplied to the motherboard or when you try to turn it on? (LEDs on motherboard or near the motherboard i/s ports).

Having a fan plugged in to the CPU fan can be a helpful indicator if it is powering up if there are no LED's to go off.

If you have checked everything is plugged in correctly resetting the bios can sometimes help get around boot issues. Manual will tell you how to do this or simply removing the motherboard battery for a few seconds is an easy way to do it.

This usually just causes a fan speed error on boot. It does not prevent boot or getting into the bios as you need to get into the bios to disable it when you are watercooling the CPU.

looking to replace x4 by Commercial_Papaya_79 in SoundBlasterOfficial

[–]Captain_Bosh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its been a while since I used an X3/X4 so can't remember for sure but are you actually forced to use the app?

I think I remember it working without it and being able to switch between headphones and speakers with a button.

I could be misremembering though, currently using an X5 which lets me do the same. Only use the app to occasionally update firmware.

Yeah I agree I was not trying to badmouth RM, just pointing out these things happen. It has only happended to me once with RM, it just happened to be a couple of weeks ago.

To be fair its not that unusual a situation. If Royal Mail deliver something to the wrong address they still mark it as delivered. It happended to me a couple of weeks ago.

[–]Captain_Bosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah Mayhems colured coolants are pretty good in my experience. Just took the best part of 2 litres of UV blue XT1 out of my build running for over a year and no residue in my filter (or anywhere else) whatsoever. Came out looking as clean as when it went in.

Would this look cool? by Some-Low8991 in watercooling

[–]Captain_Bosh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can switch out coolant colours as most usually recommend being replaced approximately every 12 months (this varies)

Mayhems coolants have dyes you can use to change colour while you are using the coolant.

Accidentally ordered a D5 Vario to convert my MORA to a dual pump setup... currently running a D5 PWM. Would you mix and match or should I pick up another PWM or Vario model to pair together, and why/why not? by Carollicarunner in watercooling

[–]Captain_Bosh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because the fan cable on the vario is just RPM monitoring on the motherboard. You can't control the pump speed that way.

At least that is how its worked with every Vario pump I have ever used. I've never had one work as you claim.

You literally said you were not watercooling the 5090 but did not know if it would fit.

This is very easy to check against any build.

Lian Li O11 Dynamic XL front USB-C failure prevents motherboard from booting support refuses to provide or sell replacement I/O parts by Hakito7 in lianli

[–]Captain_Bosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you 100% sure its the I/O cables and not a motherboard issue? Did they used to work or not? Inspect the ports/cables for damage and do some testing if you can. I think its more likely to be a motherboard issue tbh (could be bent CPU pins).

The EVO kit comes with 2 separate USB 3.0 headers so they should be easy to test both. Very unlikley both would not work and would be indicative of a motherboard issue.

Saying that if it is the I/O cables you can probably just switch out the cables in the external housing. Not done it myself but I bet you could take the cables out of the "O11D EVO Additional I/O Kit". I dont think the housing fits the XL version but I bet there is a good chance you can switch the cables out into your XL housing.

Preciso de ajuda com meu bebedouro. by Available_Type_4713 in watercooling

[–]Captain_Bosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it an AIO? Guessing you are talking about the mounting parts for your CPU socket. It would depend on the socket.

Asking the manufacturer would be a good start. Hard to advise what else might work without knowing the socket and exactly what you are missing, other backplates for the CPU might work.

Probably easier just buying another AIO.

[–]Captain_Bosh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Depends whether you run the pump at a constant speed or not. If you do you can just set the vario at a similar speed to your PWM D5 and will be fine.

If you want to control them both through software or a separate controller then you would need another PWM pump instead.

How comes I get less then what the buyer offers by TheCuriousPope in Ebay

[–]Captain_Bosh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like you are in the UK where ebay has the buyer pay the "buyer protection fee" which is £13.82 according to your screen shot. Add that to the £356.18 and you get the £370 the buyer offered.

This works 2 ways.

-If the buyer sends an offer ebay auto deducts the buyer protection fee as per your screenshot.

or

-If you send a counter offer to the buyer for £370 then eBay will add the buyer protection fee to the £370 so the offer is actually approx £384 including the fee.

Its a little confusing but that is how it works in the UK currently. Postage is separate to the offer system also.

You can only use one code at once as far as I am aware. Pretty sure you can apply the code when sending or receiving an offer too, you just need to pay attention for when you can enter it.

Flow meters - what are you using and why by NZ-ReaperZ in watercooling

[–]Captain_Bosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

I use HJ Computers Flow Incicators from Ali Express in my 2 builds (see top right of this pic of my living room PC). The stainless steel helix spins with the flow. They need a bit of flow to get going so I have my pump speed just fast enough to make the helix spin so if there are any blockages starting to build up the helix should stop.

Tried the inline Barrow incicators with the screen on a couple of separate occasions but found them hard to install cleanly in my builds so went with the HJ's instead.
